The message are being delivered to us through the payphones, is there not a way to transmit back to the operator using the payphones?

Almost like, if we could *69 (call lookup) on the # that calls the phones..then, dial that # and .. give it an instruction. Hmm

We actually tried punching in *69, just for fun, after the 17:15 axon in Burbank, California went hot yesterday. Of course it didn't work -- it probably never works from a pay phone -- but it was worth a try. Dunno

Im going to the Janesville, Wisconsin Axon point tommorow at 15:11, im going to try my social engineering of the operator to see what will happen.

anyone want me to say anything to the operator? ^_^

I do not remember seeing this anywhere but might this not mean that we are ment to reasemble the files (as we have done) and give them back in order? This would presumably give Melissa enough data to unscrable the next set of files.

We have a conduit to SP via e-mail. Do we have a way to 'give back' the reassembled files (or at least thier order) to Melissa?

DUDE! what if we say the order of the names back to melissa when she calls?

I just sent the sleeping princess an email to ask if she can pass messages on. Doubtful I'll get a reply though, but who knows

I trust and know your source, it just never clicked until you bolded it!

from what i understand, when you get the call, they ask for name or nickname, you say that AND the sound file name, then they play the file. i want to know if there is time to say something

Her nickname: Operator

Her Name: Melissa

Then the codeword: [which is what ever code block the payphone is in like, dizzy, or yes_or_no]

i dont think she asks for the password if there are 2 axons already hot in that group (at least she didnt for me). Also there is only time to say something if you chose to say whatever INSTEAD of melissa, operator, etc. She starts the message right after that. I dont think that'll lead to anything though.

By the way, Bandit, definitely try getting the phone operator to catch the number of the call. but do it BEFORE melissa calls. just tell them you're expecting a call at exactly (whatever time) and ask if there's any way to catch the number. Make up some story if you have to. Just convince them it's important. Smile

wind up and wind down noises

I've been trying to keep up, somewhat successfully ... This isn't directly to do with the ordering of the wavs, more a pondering of if we're missing something in them.

Has anyone bothered to slow down and/or reverse the 'wind up' and 'wind down' noises on the wavs? In a tape player, when you get that it's because the tape's being pulled through too quickly and it doesn't get played properly.

These clips are supposed to be being played from some sort of digital medium, yes? So then why is there that sound at all? It may just be the fact that it makes it easier for us, as players, to see where things start and end, but I'm somewhat dubious. A digital recording shouldn't have a 'wind up' time. And if it is, in a real tape there's audio data in that buzzing, so is there audio data in /this/ buzzing?

After listening to the wind ups and wind downs again, they do seem to be unique, as they would be in a real tape, which leads me to believe if we can slow them down there may be something of use in there.

The double length winds also bring more questions about why, or what might be hidden in it, it shouldn't vary, unless, once again, it wasn't a digital medium that's being played from and the person playing it had control over the speed. In that case, it means that rather archaic technology was used to record these messages despite the enhanced tech that seems to be avalible, and it wasn't the Flea or Meliissa playing it down the phone, since she is, as far as we know, a purely computerised, and thus digital medium at the moment.

A pondering lurker. Smile

an afterthought -- if anyone knows a good linux based wav editor that can handle speed changes and will work without crashing, please, lemme know. Wink

wind up noises etc

Spent ages this morning trying to get a sound editor working, finally got one and slowed the wind up way down. Unfortunately, it still sounds like wind up noise, just ... slow. At least on dizzy. I know next to nothing about sound editing though, so there's a billion and one filters and similar that I'm at a loss on how to use. I'm still loathe to think this noise is just here for us, as players, to identify 'sections' of the script but I'm beginning to think I don't have the skills to see anything more in it than that. :/ If someone else who knows how to drive these thnigs wants to take a look, I still think it'd be worth looking at. I also looked at the spectrum analysis, which someone asked about, and it looks as it should, nothing funky hidden in dizzy at least.

Done last night - sent mails off to the Sleeping Princess (Suggesting she whisper these completed voices back into the Queens ear), and Dana, saying that we have something solid and if she wants to share it on the blog, feel free. - Linking to my completed versions of the wavs, of course.

I was assembling the wav files for my own personal collection, and I came across this blip in beer.wav:

http://webpages.charter.net/paul21/scrambled.mp3

I tried to reverse it invert it, amplify it, but nothing I did made it sound clearer.

Anyone know what it is?

seriously, this reminds me of my childhood, listening to the odyessy Radio shows. It sounds like a radio show, they are very discriptive, especially when shes escaping...
