UPDATE: The Hollow Needle

Phillis has put up the Spring Edition of the Hollow Needle Newsletter in zipped Word, PDF, and online versions, including a look at some of the things in the chest. Lots of interesting stuff. There's a corner of the "illuminated manuscript" which Dale might have been talking about, a piece of artwork by Sarah Wyatt (which looks kind of like the Klepsydra tree), and a book called "A Day in Fairyland."

A Day in Fairyland

From "Xena"
Subject: [wishchasers] Info: Day in Fairyland

I found a few things about A Day in Fairyland:

This is quoted from a booksellers:

http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookSearchPL

Rahmas, Sigrid illus. by Ana Mae Seagren
A Day In Fairyland
Ramborn, Sweden, circa 1948. NOT ex library. NOT book club. "A Day
In Fairyland" was written by Sigrid Rahmas and the fabulous full page
color illustrations are by Ana Mae Seagren. It was printed in Sweden
for Ramborn Corp. Little Neck, NY, no date published around 1948.
This is a very large hardcover measuring about 18.5" tall x 14" wide.
The interior is VG+, clean, tight and bright. No writing in book, no
crayon, no creased pages, no dog eared pages, no torn pages. The
pages are very white and bright, not yellowing and not brittle.
Wonderful color illustrations are bright and bold, no fading. 2 pages
with teeny tiny smudge in the blank open margin not affecting
anything, very minor and barely noticeable. Tight binding, no loose
pages, no loose hinges, although there is a very small tear to paper
at front hinge, binding is still very secure. The covers are in good
condition with some soiling on rear cover, some edge & corner wear, a
few small tears/paper missing to spine, but binding is still tight
and secure. Fantastic full color artwork on the front cover is bright
and clean with a little shelfwear. A fantastic book for the fairy
lover, the colorful illustrations in this book are outstanding. ISBN:
Bookseller Inventory #H340
Price: US$ 185.00 (Convert Currency)
Bookseller: Park Avenue Books, Lafayette, LA, U.S.A. (Search this
Seller's Books)(Ask Bookseller

There is also a musical composition, A Day in Fairyland, a suite by
Haydn Wood, composed in 1933. Here's a link on info about him:

http://www.musicweb.uk.net/garlands/Haydnwood.htm

There is also a Fairyland Trail in Bryce Canyon, Utah, near the North
Rim of the Grand Canyon.

There is also an AMUSEMENT PARK in Oakland, CA named Fairyland:

http://www.fairyland.org/index.html

And as I was browsing, I came across this interesting
remark: "Fairies" aside of the world of Witchcraft, have supernatural
powers and live in a magical place called Fairyland. Fairies come in
different sizes, and many of them have delicate wings. Now and then,
fairies will take a human to Fairyland. It is very difficult to leave
Fairyland once you are there. Even if you escape, you return to a
changed world, because one day in Fairyland equals to ten years in
the human world! So if a fairy invities you to Fairyland, you should
say,"No thank you!"

It's a nice website about Faeries:

http://www.geocities.com/faery_magick_2000/faeries.html

I'm not sure how relevant all this info is, but here it is!

Day in Fairyland

Full title is apparently A Day in Fairyland: Story and Picture Book. The artist is also listed under a slightly different name in other sources: Ann Mari Sjogren. See www.fairypaintings.com, which has some info on the artist.

Joe Mulliner

One of the locks in the newsletter is "rumored" to be of the Joe Mulliner collection.

Read about Joe Mulliner, the Robin Hood of the Pine Barrens, here:
http://www.njhm.com/mulliner.htm

He was apparently loyal to the crown during the Revolutionary War, which earned him a hanging after several years of misadventures.

Tried Googling to find information about the artist Sarah Wyatt. Didn't find anything (which in itself is strange, since the PM's have certainly done their homework), but I did find this interesting tidbit:
Quote:
Margaret Tarrant (1888-1959) was a prolific English illustrator that created posters, greeting cards, calendars, postcards and books for fifty years. She was most popular during the 1920's and 1930's for her romantic depiction of children, fairies and animals.

Tarrant was born in Battersea, a suburb of south London. She was the only child of Percy Tarrant, the landscape painter, and his wife, Sarah Wyatt.

Other than that, Sarah Wyatt is a common name in a lot of genealogies, but nothing current enough to reference the artist.

Just spec'n along - trout me if you want...

Sarah Wyatt is probably (hopefully) a local artist and since the library has an exhibition of local artwork pretty soon her work might show up there.

"The Celebration of Local Artists and Their Work display opens on Tuesday, April 1st and will be available through Wednesday, April 30th. In the next week, we will be adding some pictures of some of the special Featured Pieces to our Library webpages."

Anyway I have e-mailed the library asking about more info about Sarah.

Sarah Wyatt

I think Sarah Wyatt is an in-game character, as such, not a real artist so there probably not any onfo on her through Google. It seems she disappeared near the Lake of Tears. And what I have read on the game sites suggests she found one of the "dimensional gateways" and perhaps disappeared through it. Perhaps her artwork, the more it is revealed to us, will provide some further clues.
