[HOAX] aiden.org

[EDIT] Edited topic title to avoid confusion. --Giskard

www.aiden.org

This came up on another forum.

Aiden is a band (and also a character from the ILB wavs). That is their homepage. But the main page has fishy information. They played a show on August 24th. The show was at 7:00 and cost a $7 cover charge, coincedentally. This band is apparently local to Washington State, obvoiusly home to the headquarters of Microsoft.

While visiting their forums, there had been one Halo related topic prior to our visit. It had been viewed 77 times, and had amounted 7 replies. As more and more people viewed this topic, a few others signed up and posted replies, the reply count indeed changed. However, 77 views was still displayed. There the views stood at 77 for an amount of time, at least an hour (and who knows how long it had been at 77 prior to our visit, whether viewed beyond 77 times or not). 4AM eastern time, the views took a sudden jump after reloading the page, to about 230, which I suspect was the actual number all along. Oddly enough, 4AM eastern time is 12AM pacific time. It was no longer the 24th, and the count of 77 was no longer locked.

Most boards, much as this one, have the copyright information located at the bottom. Aiden's did not. Could have been a home made board. Which I believe would have made it much easier for an internally programmed exploit to lock a displayed number, though I'm not learned in the arts of web design. Also found it a little odd that the website had supposedly been up since January (as per the news page), but that the board was constructed around the time ILB started becoming a widespread phenominon.

They have very few photos up, though one of their albums is from a show on July 7th, more 7's.

I don't know for sure if it's related in any way, but there are just too many coincidences for me to think otherwise. I don't think it too farfetched an idea that a company going to such great lengths to set this up for its fans could influence a small-time local band into becoming part of the hype wagon. Whether a real band or not, whether pure and utter coincidence or part of the puzzle, I thought it highly noteworthy.

I looked at this yesterday (or last night - damn timezones).

If it's part of the ARG, then there's a whole lot of detail there. (Lyrics for a number of songs etc). But given the work that's gone into the rest of it so far (wav files, gps etc) I wouldn't exclude it at all.

*edit - I hereby Trout myself in the most extreme manner - quote from (an ARG'er?) on Aidens forum...

Quote:
Don't worry, it's starting to blow over (at least the suspicion this site was under). I'm still skeptical about what's going on here, but you have to understand the mass amount of coincidence.

Just to give you a point of view, the production company of the game has gone beyond great lengths setting up an ARG (alternate reality game) to promote the game (a good example of an ARG was the Michael Douglas movie, "The Game").

The supposedly hacked website of ilovebees.com ( no doubtedly set up by the game's developers) has a list of passwords, times, and GPS coordinants. Those GPS locations are payphones, which ring at the times listed and require whomever answers to produce the password to further the groups' amount of information. This is how fucked up it is... there are 210 pay phones across the country which recieve these calls. And they will get these calls at the same time, day after day, until someone answers and provides the password.

Microsoft's Bungie Studios are developing the game, and have surely funded this widescale ARG. You have to understand that it is not so farfetched that a giant corperation like Microsoft would be able to include a website of a band local to their area for their little creepshow, whether by funding or simply by relation between someone involved with the band and another involved with the game.

I would like to take it upon myself to apologize any inconvenience you have been caused. I only hope that you would understand the motives behind the suspicions, and why, even now, I and others still have them. Rest asured though I am done bothering you folks about this as are many of the others who visited yesterday under the same pretenses. Good luck with all you do.

LOL Well I thought it'd be polite to explain the flux of odd behaivor the forum got the previous night. It comes down to either it's part of it and nothing but denial on their end ensues or I just made an absoultely polite gesture in trying to illustrate what was going on.

lets think about this from a story perspective:
so.... Sophia's ex-boyfriend Aiden travelled back in time, and started a rock band with his own name.... cuz... THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!

i know someone who has a 3 month old baby whom they named Aiden... does that mean that they're in the game too?!!??? OMGWTFBBQ!!!!?!??!!!1

(edit: look, seriously, i'm just kiddin around, i'm not bein mean, i'm not starting a flame war, just giving you an oppurtunity to step back and laugh at yourself, its healthy.... you should have heard some of the ridiculous theories i had when i started this thing Laughing )

edit: you're right GSC, so i added a disclaimer

ALRIGHT! Forget the qouting. It's what I get for going to do something else for ten minutes before I post. Anyhow, I noticed they had taken down the flier from the first page, but I was going to dig around in my temp files to find it.

EDIT Well, I can't figure out where Firefox keeps temp files, but I did find this.

http://www.purevolume.com/aiden

Which is funny, since...

Appears on Dana's Blog.
