The TOS only really declares that the Unfiction forums and other resources themselves are off-limits. What you (the PMs) do within your game universe (recognizing Unforums as real, or pretending they don't exist) is absolutely your prerogative, and you need to take responsibility for how all of your players respond to it. But it's not like anyone here has jurisdiction over your game. That's *your* responsibility, and your call.

There have, in the past, been ARGs that have directly linked to the Unforums, or directed new players to threads created here for that specific ARG. While it certainly would cause a purist to wrinkle their nose at the META-ness, it didn't break the game.

Basically, just don't mess with the Unfiction resources themselves - which would include the fest activities.

In my opinion, and mine alone, I think sending out an email to a player about the private discussion end of ramifications {such as monetary compensation} is tacky. The fact of the matter is, the whole thing was rude. Deciding to pick a panel that would be less annoying to interrupt, well, frankly I don't feel it was the PM's right to decide what we the people who paid money for the conference would or would not find annoying. Also, with that statement alone, it shows that the PMs did indeed have a prior knowledge as to the recent dramas relating to the TOS and this community - and somehow felt this was a good time to cause more drama?

I will say I had interest in following this trail via the paper I got slipped in between the panels - at the time I had no idea it was unauthorized. After that little display of what I consider ignorance, and yes just one more example of "pooping on the community" I will not be falling down this rabbit hole. I am not alone in that sentiment, although I speak for no one but myself when I say it.

To address the issue of the surprise interruption:

ARGFest-o-Con web site, circa five weeks ago wrote:
Speaking of events, we're starting to release details (vague, yes, but we're still fitting the pieces together) on our busy weekend on the Events page and will have many more to announce in the coming days. We've seen many interesting events and surprise appearances take place during ARGFests of the past, including the now-infamous Banana Hammock Man incident of 2008. Incidentally, if you are part of a game design team or company that wishes to make a splash at ARGFest-o-Con with a live event, there's an easy way to guarantee that your event goes off without a hitch (and without involving security) — contact us! Our directing committee is busy making elaborate, to-the-minute schedules, so now is the time to ensure that your event is a part of this year's conference!

RTFM.

Also, IMHO, that was the lamest live event I've ever witnessed. Ever. We even talked last night about how it could have been so much more effective and interesting. I suggest highly that the actor that got dragged out should do some method acting and actually be tazed, so as to properly portray a person on the wrong end of an electric shock.

I felt duped by the whole live event as well. Before the event, paperwork was around the conference referring to project 912.

I felt it my job to tweet about the papers, to show people who couldn't make the conference any information that I might be privy to.

Then I witnessed the "live event".

I was ashamed I tweeted earlier about it.

Of course, maybe because I saw how tight we were on time throughout the day, and realizing that maybe a question would remain unasked and unanswered because of the "actor" staging this event.

Nice idea - but could have been much more dramatic and effective if the PMs consulted the conference organizers.

Actually glad it happened.

Showed me yet another example of what not to do.

My 2 cents anyway.

IS Patheti-sad a word?

Hi there, again...

Ok. Speaking for the Project 912, I totally agree with most of your points. As I tried to explain before, we were approached by a company who wanted to do a live action/ publicity stunt. Being an open source sci fi franchise, we said sure. Had we known that the event would suck so bad, we never would have ok'd it. Also would not have done it if we knew that event staff would not be told anything about this event. Also if we had known that the guy getting "Arrested" was incapable of non-monotone speaking, we would have, at the very least, used a real f'n tazer!!

Also, the apology letter from the previous page is from the private company that pulled this live event off.... in a manner of speaking. Project 912 was only involved in the hiring and outfitting of the "Feds" which was a last minute necessity. Other than that, it was all them and all bad. And it is really embarrassing considering the ToS, the ARGfest invite to contact them and the PATHETISAD "Project 912 is real>" whimper...

If any one wants to see how embarrasing, check out

Sorry if this event pissed anyone off. If it makes it any better, it pissed me off, too.

Please accept this public apology and going forward, with any other ARG we do (and also with this one), the forums will remain firmly OOG. Now, if it spreads to another forum, we will more closely follow the ToS on that forum as well.

Maybe now would be a good time to start paying more attention to the ToS of this site, and stop posting in a thread about your game, mmm-kay?
