Basically, be involved.

Follow people on twitter, make fliers and post them out around your area if you'd like, take pictures of said fliers and send them in to the main site (they will probably put them up for all to see), talk on the IG boards and make the situation seem more alive etc.

If you aren't nominated already after that, ask someone to and they will nominate you and chances are you're in.
