[QUESTION] Stupid_cop's treatment of Jan makes no sense...? Imagine you're a police officer. The MPs are bringing you a girl who just infiltrated a military base by hopping a fence, pulling some kind of acrobatic move to evade sensors, bypassing a heavily secured door, and jumping off the third story of a building (and then standing up unharmed.)
How do you think that you would handle such a pepetrator? You'd probably put her in maximum security, immediately, with a dozen armed guards keeping close eye on her, and you wouldn't let her out until you had conducted a thorough investigation of just what is going on. Certainly, you can keep her locked up just by charging her with trespassing in a military building (probably has a minimum 500-year sentence!)
But that's not what the police do to Jan. They treat her like an average teenage troublemaker: the cop asks her pretty basic questions, and even tries to intimidate her with a one-sided (and lame) bad-cop routine. (Do they honestly think they can intimidate her?!) And they apparently release her to her dad after the usual battery of blood-alcohol/urine-analysis tests.
Does this make no sense to anyone else?
This isn't a [SPEC] because I just don't know what to make of it. I think it's clear that we have the chronology correct, but the results just don't add up. What do you guys think?

They take her to the police station because they have a lab that can run tests on her.

Of course - but why do they treat her like a common shoplifter or vandal? Wouldn't at least some special attention or precautions be warranted?

its got to be more than that, i agree with sfsdfd... the MP's questioned her, then just turned her over to a regular cop for questioning... if she did all that, you'd think they would keep her in custody for a while until they got some answers

plus, she is connect six ways to sunday. She is Dwayne's friend, so Frank might be inclined to take it easy on her and her "dad" is SSF.
Not too mention they seem almost amused at her antics. Seem more concerned that the power glitch up their security state. While on post, it does not seem that she was in a very sensitive area.

Pop Quiz I'm glad someone else brought this up. I feel the same way. Listen to the way the security officers react to everything she's doing. Seems like they'd be way more interested in how she accomplished all of this. Unless there's something we're missing in between.

"The MP's only brought her here because we have a lab on site."
That answer is good enough for me. If you want to dwell on this, go ahead. But I think you're wasting your time on something that the script clearly addresses.

I see a common assumption here; that the girl/woman leaping from the top of the building is Jan. Unless I've missed something crucial (entirely possible, I'm way behind here) I don't see any proof for that.
The resolution to all these behavioural absurdities is to assume that either Jan is not the intruder mentioned in the security alert, or that Jan is but that the interrogation happens before the big spectacular Trinity-jump thing.
Let's see where that takes us in the story...

Frank: I think I got a face on security cam 18.
Officer: She's human.
Frank: Holy... that's Jan.
Officer: Who the hell is Jan?
Frank: Jan James, the local heart-breaker, my son's high-school.

Re: Pop Quiz There is still the question of what the police were told. If they only think she was part of stealing the razorback she is not some high profile criminal. She is nothing but a cute girl who got caught doing a prank. Not like you are going to take a rubber hose to her right off the bat. Well that and there is the little 'rules of law' issue...

Maybe the MP's didn't tell the whole story to the cop, and they were only interested in obtaining the actual lab test results. Maybe there would be something in the test results that the military would know to look for but would not be noticed by a civilian.
edit - minor clarification

She does end up leaving the police station with her dad, which is then shortly after burned to the ground. I don't quite think she's doing any building-hopping post-interrogation.

They might have gone easy for 2 reasons. As mentionned, her father was "up there" in military grades, and an important reason is that she passed a lie detector test saying 1) she was drunk and 2) it was a dare. According to the lie detector result, she didn't want to do anything bad in the military facility, she was just doing it to impress some friends. Even though she was lying, the lie detector didn't catch it. So the combination of those 2 factors probably prompted the police to not act on the case.
But, I also believe this is just a minor thing and shouldn't be picked up on.

Thanks. I missed that. (So much, so fast,...)
Still, this could be from after the interrogation for a lesser offense committed while scoping the place out.
-- Steve knows it's tenuous, but it's one possible explanation for an otherwise absurdly lax treatment for a felon demonstrating superhuman powers.

Actually, its not really that strange. In the long run, did she steal anything? Destroy anything? Resist arrest? No, she fully cooperated when the sentry caught up to her. The military members were just following protocol. The treatment of her makes sense to me, as in the long run, all she did was jump off of a building.
