I think there may be another way to progress then getting all the axons to go hot.

Melissa said "The voices are in some way related to my accident. Because of the damage, I am unable to accurately assess the nature of the voices. By broadcasting the voices to my crew, they will be able to assess the damage. Once assessed, the damage can be repaired."

I think putting the files back together in order counts as 'assessed', so why not try to get the files back to Melissa? The most reliable way would be getting Dana to upload them to the website, which would also be a good peace offering from her to Melissa.

Done and done - although due to my rather primitive hotmail account (my 'main' mail address is giving me problems right how), I suggest you mail Dana with the link to the sound-files as well as that suggestion.

i still think a more feasable way to get them back to her, since she already HAS them, is just tell her the order, like numbering the pieces of a puzzle

Now that the ordering is complete, what about how they are split up. Some are from the middle of a conversation. Is this random memory fragmentation or a clue?

Interesting. Concerning the order of 'guilty' and 'message_saved', you are right. I misinterpereted it. I'll get on that as soon as I can.

As for the gap between 'hoodlums' and 'lifting', I don't blame it on your editing. What I was saying is that when we tried to directly combine the two files (as we did with all the others) they should've fit together perfectly. However, there was a very apparent blip when the two files were put together. Not only that but the background music doesn't flow like it should and it changes keys completely. There has to be either another file that fits between the two or whoever recorded them in the first place screwed it up. In any case, yes the conversation does seem to continue it just doesn't seem like to me that it flows well. Her intonation on 'exactly' is still bugging me. This would suggest bad voice acting which I don't believe is true.

I'm trying not to be over analytical, I just brought that up as a point of conversation.

As for emergency, here is why I believe it does not fit with the Janissary storyline nor fits with any of the storylines at all. (when I say fit I mean literally does not fit) It begins without the winding sound and ends with a long winding sound suggesting it is the end of a storyline itself. But this cannot be the ending of any of the story lines because each of them already have their endings.

Janissary James ends with 'you knew'. The soundbite ends with a long winding sound making it the end.

The Kalam story line ends with 'hi_aiden' which also ends with a long winding sound.

And Jersey with 'durga'. Though do note that durga ends with a short winding sound, suggesting its connected to something more.

Emergency does not fit on any of these -physically-. This does, however coincide with Jan's story just like you said. If I'm interpereting this correctly the detective is the caller in emergency. I'll do a voice analysis later today when I get the chance. I'm off to try to hit some payphones around here.

Perhaps Jan's story is really the continuation of Jersey's story. After all, Jersey's story ends with "Durga" offering to show Jersey something better than mere pictures of Jan. It also ends, as near as I can tell, with one of the "short" tape-winding-down sounds, which usually indicates the end of a scene, not an entire story.

{But I'll bet this is trout somewhere in those massive axon threads.}

Shad0, this makes a lot of sense. The whole Jan storyline could be Durga "ghosting" Jan to give Jersey information. In fact, the date storyline goes out of it's way to introduce the concept of ghosting, which is an explanation of how we can be a fly on the wall for these events.

I am still going back to the idea that these wavs are representative of Melissa sending out the meories of her crew... the Castaway would be a very loose connection to the Durga/Jersey/Jan storyline, but what about the dates?

I guess I should preface this by saying I haven't been able to actually HEAR any of the .wavs, all my ideas are based on reading the transcripts. That said...

I think the reason "emergency" doesn't physically fit in at the end of Jan's story is because it doesn't take place in the car with Jan and James. If this was a movie, we'd probably see James say "I'll take care of it" (or whatever the exact phrase is) then a jump-cut to the police station going up in flames. Just because it doesn't physically fit into the story doesn't mean anything. It LOGICALLY fits into the end of the Jan's story- James lights up the station because he wants Jan's PQI log destroyed. The easiest way to to that without giving away his true intent would be simply explode the building.

eureka

FWIW, as a professional editor, I agree that there is a gap between hoodlums and lifting.

So if the GOAL of this puzzle is to "Assess the damage" we can assess that there indeed is damage done to her memory between these two wavs. (fragmentation not-accounted for here in this theory)

I've sent an email off to ladybee777 informing her of the damage location... perhaps this was the key to move on. More if she replies...

Has anyone actually contacted Melissa? I think the Princess has control of that e-mail. There must be another way.

That's why I think we should give the files to Dana to post on the site. Since Melissa's on that server they're sure to get to her.

Some people are doing that and others are e-mailing SP to see if she can help. We'll see if it's successful.

Crisko,

Actually, emergency does start with the tape winding sound. It sort of runs into the siren sound, but it's definitely there. It's the short version. But you got me thinking....

I think we've been a bit off on the ordering. The long tape sounds are the key.

The clues:

1) Durga ends with a short tape sound, suggesting there's something after it.
2) Emergency and You Knew both end with LONG tape sounds, suggesting they're both end scenes.
3) Durga says she'll do better than pictures of Jan, suggesting she's going to ghost her.

I think that Law Abiding and You Knew are what Durga shows Jersey, and are the end of the Jersey/Durga story.

That would leave Emergency to be the end of Jan's Adventure.

So the order would be:

Jersey's computer:
Dizzy -> Escape -> Jersey -> Reflected -> Durga -> Law Abiding -> You Knew

Jan's Excellent Adventure:
Blip -> Pillow -> Walkaway Girl -> Hey Soldier -> PQI -> Stupid Cop -> Yes or No -> Hey Dad -> Nervous -> Emergency

And the Dating Game stays the same.

The reason Emergency goes at the end of set 2 instead of set 1 is that it has no obvious connection to Jan, so it wouldn't mean anything for Durga to show it to Jersey. So what she shows him is the conversation between Jan and James in the car.

I think if Durga were showing something to Jersey, there would be some other indication, other than the tape sounds (which also bookend the Jersey scene). I suspect there would also be discussion during and debriefing after Durga's little show. None of that is present. It looks like we still have a few missing pieces:

....->jersey->reflected->durga->??->(end)

Dating Game may or may not be missing something between our_hoodlums and much_lifting (I'll leave debate about that to others)

...->hey_dad->nervous->law_abiding->you_knew->(end)

and

??->emergency->(end)

I think we should be taking these stories, and extracting some kind of information from them to proceed. I don't know how or what -- I've always been bad at puzzles -- but something tells me that simply reassembling the sound files is just the very tip of the iceberg...

Wandering_Angela, you're a fskin genius! That order makes perfect sense!

I'll get with my friend and we'll re-mix the order as you suggest. I'll post as soon as I have it done.
