The mystery of the yellow pignose
:@] in the maze

We aren't sure why Anaerin's SPDR was the only one able to see the yellow, hyperlinked pignose in the maze.

I thought it might have something to do with hitting a certain number of pages in the maze, or finding all the :@]'s in it. Yesterday, I tried to do the latter. Today, to test the former, I went aimlessly wandering through the maze. When I came to a page with the pignose, it was yellow and hyperlinked to Dustin's page. (no new skull) (see attached)

catherwood asked me post her list of five MEM:LOCs (locations and paths) that reach pages with SYS's pignose and to add this one, pictured below.
Here's that list:
C218-4999-4A77-A5B7 PKARAY
9182-3HD9-8123-CT99 FNKZTRHAJT
0FFC-CE37-45C8-A8EA FJON
ZM97-V09Z-S8DJ-SHEQ FJONWSAVID or FJONWSHYDL
A981-B748-4DC0-B5A9 FREJPYWOQMRJ or PKRDQPXKSTJK
8542-3F29-4D99-AAE6 FRSVXK
KC9V-08KV-0SD7-MC04 XCEV *

I still don't understand what makes SYS's smiley turn to a link, but that's how it happened for me.

*edit to add: catherwood found smiley #7 now on the list.

I am mystified by their coding... I tried PKARAY and got a regular pignose, then tried XCEV and got a yellow pignose, and now PKARAY is yellow when I go back to it.

Yeah...looks like she's just established for us that we have *24* skulls to find (at least), not 20.

So, who can hit up the other missions? RobMagus? Very Happy

Just thinking about the Braille message that was hidden in the source of the skulls' e-mail forms:

Quote:
HELP ME
THE PATH TO TAKE
IS SPLIT IN TWAIN
MY MEMORIES
HOLD THE KEY

I mentioned this in chat, but for the record: I wonder if the PATH referred to in this message is the NAVPATH? If so, what does it mean that it is split in twain, and how can we use her memories to get the key?

I've been toying with the idea that the initial letters of the skulls can be combined either with themselves or with the initial letters of the kids' names to construct a navpath -- we've got combinations like HJ (Huitzil-Julian) and GU (Goldilocks-Ursula) that are valid vectors (with SweetTooth-YumYum forming SY and TY, I guess), but also combinations like SE that aren't.

Edited to add: from the skulls we have, the following are valid vectors on some node: UD, GU, HJ, KK, SC, SY, SZ, OA

And the following are not: SE, EA, LC, SD, BB, FE, TY, SL, TL

So, pro tip from me to you:

If you are one of the people in a location that has an updated GPS Mission created by Pricklypear and newly-tagged by Sys, here are your next steps:

1) GO DO THE MISSION. PLEASE. We expect there to be 1 skull for each of the remaining 3 missions of the 4 that were altered to have a :@] in the name of it.

2) You will see perhaps the initial waypoint, and any additional waypoints leading up to the skull waypoint as *also* being tagged by the ":@]." The only way to see this is when you're on the mission, so if you've done one, you'll know what I am talking about.

3) It appears that once you've gotten the skull (and do make sure to copy it down well and good on paper before leaving the app - because even though I left the waypoint up on my screen when switching to pop onto the web and into IRC, the waypoint disappeared when I came back, so I was glad I took the time to copy it correctly. I would've had to abort the mission and re-start), you're done. Any waypoints after that that do NOT contain the Sys pignose ":@]" indicate that you've gotten as far as you can with new content.

I ran the whole mission for Los Angeles just to make sure, and I was a little disappointed there wasn't another skull, since I had walked through all 9 waypoints and all. We were all really hoping there would be a second one at the very end. Technically, it makes sense, I guess, that there was only one, but I dunno.

At least they tweaked the one waypoint I totally hated and got cranky about last time, heh.

Oh, and another thing I didn't quite realize - the first clue for Los Angeles' mission said something about hiding things in parking lots - and looking back at each waypoint and comparing to Google Maps, I can see why they might have thought it would make it easier to say, "here, have a second way to know when you're getting close when you're near a parking lot."

However, Google Maps is a pretty horrible way to decide to clue *any* geographical features, as the satellite photos decay super-fast, esp. in a city like L.A. So, some spots were just, like, sidewalks near a barricaded area, or a fenced-off pit that had been dug, or there was a newly-constructed building or whatever. *shrug*

I was still able to get all the waypoints, but I was really glad those clues were not more critical to the path.

I took two photos at the photo point (I now understand the tool in the app that pops up, so I was able to do it from inside the GPS Mission thing), and one of them has a tiny Easter egg in it, hee hee.)

I didn't realize how hot it was, either. I know my face is gonna be sunburned, but as I was driving home, the cool air in the car was soooo nice, and I thought, "Oh good, it's cooling off. I wonder what temp it is now."

It was 91F. Ooof. It must've cracked 100 when I was out there. I was very thirsty by the end, heh.

Anyway. There ya go. New skull. St. Louis, Vancouver, and NYC - get on it!

Wilco, as soon as possible.
I'll have to enlist some help to get the proper gear, but other than that I'm ready.

Update: go for Friday

Tweets from Eridanos:

Quote:
@dreamerblueon Hmm. Well, from my analysis, the navpaths on the network are routes from one node to another. Here, (cont)

@dreamerblueon If I recall correctly, aren't we digging _into_ the AI now? I think the subroutines need a safe navpath to move forward.

ETA: Remember how we were wondering where the S* subroutines were sitting--i.e., which node we were directing them from? Well, I think they're sitting in the cornfield, which is why their statuses are reported in the upper-left-hand corner.

Edit 2: This is what I tweeted back:
Quote:
@eridanos01 Ah, I see...so the Stonewall & the nodes we've used to date aren't _in_ the AI, so they're not the nodes we need!

If there were any GPS Missions in Dallas, I'd definitely be able to help. Unfortunately, there aren't, so I guess the best that I can do is just offer moral support!

As for the navpath, have we tried directing the subroutines to the pignoses in the maze? I'll give that a shot once I find a couple of the pignoses, and report if anything happens.

EDIT: It didn't look like anything happened when I entered a couple of the paths that drizjr supplied above. However, the pignoses are not links for me, so that may have something to do with it. I'll poke around in the maze some more and see if I can get them to turn yellow, then try again.

I think eridanos was meaning to give us a k100, maybe we need to manipulate the picture until we find letters. Also I think the underscores mean something, I just don't know what
