Favourite ARG moments/experiences What was your favourite aspect of an ARG you played/created, and why?
Mine was the first time i punched my phone number in to an unassuming website and then got a phone call from a character. Getting that phone call was really cool. Having the fiction reach out and pull me in was probably the best experience of any ARG i've played.
anyone else? Was it a live event, a website, a drop, an interaction, an email.... what was it?

My favorite part of any game is sitting in awe as you watch the players discover things about the game that you never intended - how they're able to make the universe complete. It's amazing watching a story unfold that you developed and the players totally consuming it. I guess even better is when they thank you for what you've done and you're totally not expecting the thanks.

I like those "Along came a spider" moments when a new site, puzzle trail or other massive body of information suddenly gets discovered and the players jump in, en masse, to investigate all the "legs", collaboratively. Divine chaos! It's best when there is a lot of diversity in the content and collective intelligence/experience kicks in.

My favorite aspect of any ARG is playing collaboratively. Why? Just look at this forum.
As for a favorite moment, I can't choose one, there have been so many of them. I'm not sure I could pick even one favorite per game. My favorite moment in Cloverfield (the last thing..until now... I was able to follow carefully) was when one of the designers acknowledged the whole "it's a lion; it's huge" discussion. That still makes me laugh.

So far, my favorite thing (keeping in mind that I have only been playing these for about a month) was the first time I opened my email and there was a mail waiting for me from an in game character.
That was very cool.

In the midst of Sammeeeees II - I opened the Raven Cell (where we were creating our odes to Mr Alan Johnson's eidolin) and I don't know why but I went back to the beginning (these are basic blogspot pages) and found an imbedded video from my favorite character, Higgs. It was a personal message "We need to talk" and I literally squeeked with excitement (I was in the chat room and you could probably describe me as bouncing off the walls). Then I followed the clues and it was a very personal moment for me, watching his message in full before I posted the link to the room.
I also very much enjoy watching the hive mind solve puzzles with amazing leaps in logic that blow me away. And overall, Collaboration is the best part of ARGs - working with people all over the world towards a common goal.

Seconded.

Sorry to necro a thread, but I really felt like posting something here.
I think my favorite things in Sammeeeees II were the cells. Updating them gave me something to do on those late nights keeping an eye on my grandfather at the hospital. But I think my favorite things was an OOG moment after it was all over and we were having the PM chat, when I mentioned to her that I had gone out of the country for a week during that time and still pretty much kept up with things. Her suprise was great, and for some reason, that'll always stick with me. That and the cells.

Might as well...

Generating over ninety pages of posts in seven days for my first game: Looking Glass Labs.
It was quite stunning to see the involvement, and that experience only made me want to do this more and more, bigger and better.

Love your question iheathen! My favorite moments as a player often stem from the element of surprise in the storytelling, especially the rare personal ones. One that comes immediately to mind is an email response from a lead character. After reading his reply, I glanced down at my original message and saw that some of what I'd written had been replaced. I literally gasped as I read, "The things that take you back are coming to take you back," a message from a ghost which the character apparently did not see.

Waiting on the edge of my seat as sentries disappeared at end of eldritch errors: book 1. Waiting anxiously like everyone else as characters we'd come to depend on were killed off one by one was a real trip.
followed closely after by the WV trip in EE book 2. I had a pretty awesome time bouncing emails back and forth, swearing at strangers on a payphone, and basically worrying my ass off for 48 hours.

During my short stint (so far) in this community, I have created one game (TSO) and played none (so far).
However, what blew me away was how much the player collective came up with ideas and theories during the game (a lot of which inspired events that I did not even think about).
Also people admitting they were crying at the end or when certain characters died really made me feel like "wow, don't know what I did, but it must be good and I want to do it again and better"
What I like about the genre is that before I got involved with it I was plagued by tons of random ideas and snippets of inspiration that I could never really use for anything (too short for a novel, not enough for a filmscript etc. etc.).
Due to ARGs, most of these ideas no longer go to waste as I can now use them in ARG storylines/puzzles/character backgrounds etc. etc.
This has provided a certain peace of mind as the ideas can now be used.

I'll second that one, although I was on the WV trip so I have different reasons for it being memorable. Being left in a remote location with characters overnight is as about as memorable as it can get.
The WV trip is tied with the zombie mimes boat cruise in Art of the Heist.
If I ignore the big ARG event type moments, I'd say the ending of ILB and Chasing the Wish were both quite memorable moments that I'll never forget.
