[PUZZLE][SOLVED] NAVPATH/Cornfields
and emo dark forests

At the end of the big trailhead thread I posted:

Quote:
So maybe the skull directions *are* part of it.

There is a meta-style push to start trying Navpaths, obviously, so this means we have at least *some*thing at our disposal to start this process.

So, let's say the skull directions are part of it. We have at least one (or a few) of a particular skull in order to start. I wonder if we start plugging in terms or phrases or commands that are at least *partially* correct, if we get some sort of confirmation on-screen.

(Like, for instance, the sequence is like, all oldskool interactive fiction stylee: we can enter in W,S,SW,W,N,N,N,SE and the input box will 'try' that path.)

For those of you new to the forum/Intimation ARG, we've got this page, see. With, like, a cornfield image or something, and some skulls (named Baldr and Skye), and some A.I. process information, and a BIG OLD PUZZLE staring us in the face. It's an entry box, labeled "NAVPATH," and we've got next to no clue on how to solve it.

Wanna help?

Well, OK, you probably want to see this crazy cornfield/grassy field image page thing I was talking about.

Here's how you do that. Start here:

http://thewaytheirworldended.com/Q7J8R04J87FFJ983Q2/

See how there's lines of text that end in letter pairs? Those indicate nodes you can travel by in this wacky maze.

Follow this path to get to the breach: FJ - UC - MW - GH - TX - JZ - HJ - BL

Got it? Oh hey, there's a hole in the wall - climb through! (click on the hole)

Now you're at the page, and you can see the image, the text, the proc information, the skulls, and the NAVPATH box.

Want more info on how we found this and what happened after we found it? Read this page: http://intimation.glitterbook.com/wiki/S5:RPT_2

In the chat channel, cather supposed that the whole "path is split in twain" might mean that we need a pair of skulls to build a navpath -- and oh look, we have two skulls right there on the page, Baldr and Skye. I've been looking at those two for any numeric patterns, anything that would suggest a way to build a navpath, but nothing's springing out at me so far.

Here's what I'm looking at:
Quote:

[Baldr - I-K2L15A8270376B19804E]
[KLABE+215827037619804]
blake

He had really, really
pale hair and skin.
He was always really
quiet and still.
He never played with us.
What did he know?

words per line: 4 4 4 3 5 4

letters per word:
2 3 6, 6
4 4 3 4.
2 3 6 6
5 3 5.
2 5 6 4 2.
4 3 2 4?

[Skye - P-L2A276836419I010859N]
[LAIN+2276836419010859]
lani

She has the brightest blue eyes
I've ever seen. It reminds me
of when Bushy Tail and me
watched the sky
after a thunderstorm,
and it was so, so, so blue...

words per line: 6 6 6 3 3 7

letters per word:
3 3 3 8 4 4
3 4 4. 2 7 2
2 4 5 4 3 2
7 3 3
5 1 12,
3 2 3 2 2 2 4...

As a followup, several pairs of skulls share digits in common.
Code:

Blake & Lani
K 2 L15A 8 270376B 1 9 8 04E
L 2 A276 8 36419I0 1 0 8 59N

A different attempt (careful, might be confusing...but don't worry, it doesn't work anyway! Laughing) :

In the latest Eridanos post, we are reminded of the Braille that can be found in any of the skull sign-up pages. Which, keeping the format it is written in, translates to

Code:

HELP ME
THE PATH TO TAKE
IS SPLIT IN TWAIN
MY
MEMORIES
HOLD
THE
KEY

Since also Eridanos strongly hints at the Baldr/Skye skulls, we thought maybe this is indeed some sort of key to the "memories" connected to these skulls. Ok, technically it says that the memories itself hold the key. But maybe this is the key to the key, you know?

Anyway, following the method used way back when the game started and assuming that the number of characters on each line figures into the key, we end up with two variants, depending on whether or not to count spaces. These are
1) 7-16-17-2-8-4-3-3
2) 6-13-14-2-8-4-3-3
from here on out referred to as the "key".

Now I tried these on the last part of the skull strings.
Code:

SAI-I-K2L15A8270376B19804E
SAI-P-L2A276836419I010859N

Just taking the character at the position given by that part of the key.

This leads to
Code:

1)
898221LL
808232AA

2)
A6B221LL
6I0232AA

Tried each of those separately and one in front of the other both ways for each. That's not working.

2nd attempt...this time I tried the "keys" on the text description for Blake and Lani, respectively. I would count continually throughout the text, because both descriptions don't have 8 lines, as the "keys" do. Perhaps it wraps around, but let's not go there. This attempt is random enough, already.
First, I modified the keys (adding up the next part of the "key" to the previous, forming the total for this part), hopefully haven't made a mistake there
Code:

1) 7-16-17-2-8-4-3-3
=> 7-23-40-42-50-54-57-60

2) 6-13-14-2-8-4-3-3
=> 6-19-33-35-43-47-50-53

Then I modified a copy of the text, removing all spaces.

Next, I went through the texts (once with, once without spaces) with both keys. I quickly dismissed the first key, because it leads to a lot of blanks and punctuation. However, if you want to try, here is the 2nd "key"
Code:
#2 DLN EW AY + AE'EE  M

And here are the two results with the 1st "key" applied, plus the two combinations for them to the potential navpath
Code:

1)
EHAWLIAS + TEIREHBH
EHAWLIASTEIREHBH
TEIREHBHEHAWLIAS

2)
RPNHAELU + SBESEDEW
RPNHAELUSBESEDEW
SBESEDEWRPNHAELU

Does this look too random to you? Yeah, I agree. And not surprisingly, it doesn't work. Sad

Perhaps this failed attempt can make yours so much better. Smile

Edit: Right, MrToasty. I forgot to mention that dreamerblue and I had this impression at pretty much the same time in IRC. Laughing
It might refer to one of these keys in particular. Then you just have to try this whole charade again with that key.
Well, no...those keys seem a bit too long for this job.

Probably been discussed before, at least in IRC, but the shape of the code from the braille reminds me of the keys from the very first puzzle as seen in the 'keys' video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3DReFEOc5M
but not sure if that would get us anywhere.

solve for first page of navpaths beyond the hole in the wall

Lani's page reads:

Quote:
She has the brightest blue eyes
I've ever seen. It reminds me
of when Bushy Tail and me
watched the sky
after a thunderstorm,
and it was so, so, so blue ...

Blake's page reads:
Quote:
He had really, really
pale hair and skin.
He was always really
quiet and still.
He never played with us.
What did he know?

First navpath:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Using the first letter from each line on Lani's page and the same from Blake's page. The navpath is: SIOWAAHPHQHW
The new image on the page is http://thewaytheirworldended.com/SWDAT/VISDUMP-VNSDFM7V07JRVQPJ044HN51.JPG

second navpath

Follow the step above and it leads you to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a new cornfield with http://thewaytheirworldended.com/SWDAT/VISDUMP-VNSDFM7V07JRVQPJ044HN51.JPG which displays two more colored skulls, Kayenta and Shimmer

And i'm not putting some stuff in spoilers here...

Kamen's page reads:
Quote:
He was very quiet
and very smart, with
black hair and dark eyes.
He said he came from
a land of red stone,
sheep, and old stories.
I always found him last.

Elena's page reads:
Quote:
She was a really good hider!
Her hair was dark but the
light would catch it sometimes
and be really bright for a
second, and that was how
I always found her.

Therefore:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
taking the initial letters of each line of the above poems, we get HABHASI and SHLASI and then mush them together -- I'm not explaining why they're in this order -- to submit HABHASISHLASI into the navpath box

btw, upper- or lower-case works, it is not case-sensitive.

Now we're on a third cornfield with this info:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the background image is http://thewaytheirworldended.com/SWDAT/VISDUMP-1890231UDUPONMS8NF13IUR.JPG and there are two more breadcrumb clues ("Minor Activity" and "Gateway Arch") and two more skulls (Viola and Luna) which we have not yet found!

(sorry for the typo, it has been fixed!)

This led to finding the Viola skull, for Gita:
http://thewaytheirworldended.com/SAI-M-T21A179064I57330849G

Incidentally, for future reference, here is a GREAT tool for Braille puzzles: http://www.purplehell.com/riddletools/braille.htm
This helped immensely, as choosing the "shorthand" option from the drop-down menu lets you get the letters & dash that were part of the solve (whereas others thought those characters were commas & such).

Gita's page reads:
Quote:
She liked to sing a lot.
All the songs she sang were
really funny and she
made them up herself!
She said, back home, that
she used to have a twin brother
and their parents were always
getting them mixed up.

On the skull-findin' page on the wiki, I went ahead and popped their NAVPATH pieces into their headlines, so that they show up neatly at the top in their section links:

http://intimation.glitterbook.com/wiki/S5:RPT_2

Might be good to make a NAVPATH page on the wiki, too, with a walkthrough of each of the areas of the cornfield, with which skulls and such.

Definite progress and clarity!

One thing that really bothered me, and that I mentioned in IRC, is that the first letter of each line of the Braille on the skulls page is set apart from the rest of the line, so that it actually reads:

Code:

H ELP ME
T HE PATH TO TAKE
I S SPLIT IN TWAIN
M Y
M EMORIES
H OLD
T HE
K EY

I finally figured out that the reason the PM did that was to hint that the "keys" from the "memories" (descriptions of the children) are indeed acrostics!!! So now I can relax that we have figured out what the Braille from the sign-up forms was for Smile.

And here I was trying to take HTIMMHTK and ROT it or anagram it or both or...heh Smile.

FWIW, putting just HTIMMHTK or HTIMMHTKHTIMMHTK into the NAVPATH does NADA!

YOU'RE WELCOME!! Very Happy
