[META] Cold Axons, Take 2

A new "[META] Post here if you are still attempting to get an Axon Hot" topic in this section of the forum might be usefull. That way we will know which ones people are still trying to get and if there are any that no-one is still looking for.

I am finding that, even though there were 13 people at the first Boise, ID site (11:53 eyes), and 15+ at the second (16:27 pillow), I was the only person trying yesterday (and today) again at the 11:53, and only 4 of us were there for the 16:27 connection yesterday. So we may have sites now that are being completely neglected.

I don't want to create redundancy, but the "[META] Post here to document WHY Axons didn't go hot" has many redundant post and many axons listed there that are now hot. I just think it would be a good idea to start fresh, maybe at the end of the day today. And probably a good idea to suggest that people organize their efforts elsewhere and just use the new thread for posting info on continuing efforts. Which would make compiling a list of left-over sites matched to who is working on them quite easy.

I would suggest having everyone post in that thread:

1 - Which site(s) you are still trying to "activate".
2 - Why it has not been activated as of yet.
3 - Possible reasons you think you've been having trouble getting it activated.
4 - What your plan of action is to get it activated.

For me this would be:
1 - 11:53PDT Boise, ID (eyes) 43.569299 -116.214454

2 - Phone at the coordinates (Kopper Kitchen) rang the 24th asking if "bob" was there then rang again with only silence then a *click*. Group posted at the next-door Best Western Conference Center pay-phone reported that it did not ring on the 24th. Kopper Kitchen phone did not ring again on the 25th. Tried the nearby Cheveron phones today (26th), as they are the only other phones listed on the payphone-directory site anywhere near the Kopper Kitchen. nneither rang, but I could not confirm that they can accept incoming calls (no cell-phone).

3 - http://payphone-directory.org/payid.html has the # of the Kopper Kitchen phone listed as 208-342-9625, it is actually 208-332-9975.

4 - Found all the phones within about a 1/4 mile radius from the coordinate. None of the businesses where the phones were located reported hearing the phones ring at or around 11:53PDT for the last 3 days. I'll continue checking them though.
4.5 - Trying to find out where the payphone-directory phone# is actually ringing.

Edit: Topic tag. -SpaceBass

I'd like to acknowledge the spec that is also floating around that the coordinates may change, and very soon, in order to facilitate us hitting all 210 axons.

If this is the case, this thread will still be applicable to that cause and task.

15:19 Axon

I scouted the 15:19 Axon today for an attempt by myself or another beekeeper. I was thinking of calling the phone number of the phone I think it is and seeing if someone will answer and then explain what is going to happen in a few minutes and what to do. There are a lot of things working against me here. It seems all phoens that allow incoming calls these days have very quiet ringers. Then, even if I do get somone, explaining what to do and having them do it is all together another thing. I guess I have nothing to loose, right?

Edit - spelling

15:19 Axon

I was thinking of doing it about not too long before. Less than 10 minutes I think. The trouble is I will be at work, so I need to find a window of opportunity. I might just need to hide for a bit. Wink

UPDATE:
No one picked up the phone, and after about 5 rings it sounded like a fax/modem pickup.

I'm still willing to atempt the 17:11 San Francisco, CA location. I found another phone that rings. Will try to be there today.

Keeping my fingers crossed. We have less than an hour till the last "escape" axon comes up at 15:19 PDT in Charlotte, NC. Hope someone makes it there.

Note: the DC payphones that I have answered are not on the payphone site. So whoever picked those did not use that methodology.

The initial points had DC phones in payphone_directory. Then they changed them.

1 - 06:55 PDT 3km W of Spencer, West Virginia (jersey) 43.569299 -116.214454

I've got my eye on the 6:55 Axon in West Virginia. I'm about 3 hours away from that point, but I'm considering driving out there on Saturday (that is of course, if noone hits it tomorrow).

Is there anyone else out there that maybe lives closer to that point that has plans to hit it?

Final SF spot

Two more on the way to the last SF Axon. We were in Berk for the last 4 activations there. Hope we can spread out and check more locations.

The only other bay area point still cold is in Palo Alto. Current spec is it is an error, since the last 4 digits for both coordinates are identical...

If Portland gets 17:23, that will be 7!

Good Luck to All!

13:02 Washington D.C. (38.892683 -77.020933)

I'm going to keep trying to activate the 13:02 axon in Washington DC:

The red star marks the GPS coordinates, the blue dot is a pair of verizon pay phones. One phone has been ripped out, the other (202 789 9467) accepts incoming calls and rings loudly, but there was no call at the appointed time. There aren't any other phones on that triangular block that I could find; I asked earlier for a pay phone inside the trade commission building (the only structure there), but nobody knew of one except the one outside. I scouted around outside after the failed attempt, and there are phones inside the Metro station (Naval Archives stop, Pennsylvania and 7th, north side). There may also be a phone in the Naval History Center even further northwest. I'll check the metro phones tomorrow.

Well, looks like we'll have to wait another day for 15:19 to go hot.

This one tears me up since it is so cloase to my home and go by that area all the time. I have to work nights so can never be there.

I was in the right place, but it must have been the wrong time.

17:11 axon says CANCELLED AXON ERROR... anyone else catch that? When did that happen? (sorry I've been away all day, if this is trout, I'll be glad to eat it)

edit - you can't see that it's the 17:11 axon. It's the first of Hi_Aiden
