KEY?

Hi,

So I noticed he had capitalized the word KEY in that new note on the 13th. I haven't been following this for that long. Does he ever mention any kind of key before? Is there something in music called a key other then a piano key?

Uh, also. Does anyone have any nifty way of easily opening the box? I'm too lazy to look for anything to tape to the screen.

Edit:What are the GPS coordinates of the numbered locations on the map? It's got to be that. 10 of those, and 10 keys.

Hi, welcome to the boards! We're all a little stumped where to go from here but a few answers for your questions:

1.) The metal box can be opened by dragging the appropriate buttons around in the correct order. The buttons, deciphered, say RED QUEEN. Just do a Google search on Bioshock Puzzle Box and you'll find several video's on YouTube showing how to open it.

2.) The 10 coordinates were for a live event that took place on 08/08/09.

3.) This WIKI might help you get up to date with the story so far.

Granted, now that Mark has indicated there is another level to the metal box previously undiscovered we all have to go back and retrace our steps to see if we have missed something, but the coords have already met their use. I personally feel the next step hasn't been revealed yet. If the key really is already on the site than it's pretty obscure. I might just be an idiot though, so those of you smarter than I keep looking.

KEY

Hey i was looking through the archives and theres a note in the "A Child's Garden of Cyphers" book and it says "look for key in book later! More urgent problems at hand" this might be the key or this could be referring to the lunch box

Children's Cypher Translated

i don't know if anyone has done this yet, but i translated the cover of "A Child's Garden of Cyphers" starting at the top, working left to right, down the right side, then the bottom (right to left), then down the left side (because going up makes it read backwards)...here's what it says...

TOP: YAWNNOTDARERANDWANDERNARY

RIGHT: BEWARNEDANDREADYDAWNS

BOTTOM: RAYNEARSWILLMYWANDERRNAY

LEFT (going down): READNOWANDBEWARY

putting it all together i think i should be this...

"yawn not darer and wander nary, be warned and ready; dawns ray nears; will my wanderr nay (perhaps meant to read "wander nary" but this is how it appears on the cover), read now and be wary?"

That's pretty close to correct. That was a puzzle from awhile back...

There's a condensed version of everything that's been found on the Bioshock wiki. I'm pretty sure that all of the codes have been translated already, and they should be up there.

The point was that the cipher book kept using the repeated letters in Andrew Ryan, which is clear if you count the occurrence of the letters. This leads us to believe that Lutwidge had contact with Ryan at the time he wrote the book in 1947. We also know that Lutwidge was dealing with Ryan 1946-1952 when Rapture was being built, through Scarlet Sovereign warehouse. It is clear that so far, Lutwidge has been leading (or trying to lead) Mark to make the Ryan->Rapture->Frozen Triangle->Cindy connection.

What is NOT clear is whether or not Lutwidge has another message or subtext for Mark to discover. Consider: Mark still does not know the exact location of Rapture (though he knows roughly where it is) and he still does not know its true nature (underwater city). Mark supposedly also needs a way to GET to Rapture, either via submersible or by boat. Whether Lutwidge will provide that transportation is still up in the air.

This may sound stupid, but when mark is referring to a "KEY" being right under his nose, i think he is referring to his typewriter (21 centruy KEYBOARD) can Java even interface to a keyboard? maybe we need to type some phrase or something.

And does anyone here think i should get a full membership?

I'm almost certain it is a vintage microphone design in the 'redqueen' puzzle box.

http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/285292

That's an image I found of a 1920's mic, the spring mount is what reminded me of the old microphone shock design.

What's weird though is that it seems like the recording is supposed to be coming out of the microphone. I think we might just have a case of poor design. Someone who made this puzzle accidently used a vintage microphone design instead of a speaker design.

Either way, I think the jewelry box is the puzzle that we haven't solved, especially since flash won't recognize any audio we throw at it anyway, right?

To anyone who's very computer knowledgeable:

If we open the jewelry box in one browser window, and have the mic in another browser window, is there any way for the 'mic' to hear the keys we press? I'm like 99.9% sure it's not possible, but am I wrong?

Not in Flash, no. Any idea concerning the box "hearing" and understanding audio input is next to impossible. At that point 2K has developed Flash-based audio software they could sell...

There is. "Key" could be referring to a key signature a song is played in--the root chord/scale from which the rest of a song is written. Although how that could possibly correlate to the puzzle, I dunno.

Also, I think this has been mentioned before, but the jewelry box puzzle is 2 keys short of a full octave. Just as a refresher, the notes form left to right on the jewelry box are C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A. The two notes missing are A#/Bb and B. And here again is Lutwidge's message from the box:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You have unlocked the treasures of the Empress, but in the unbinding of the lock you've also found the key. For the key points to the sea where the grandest treasure awaits--but the sea has its own strange song. If you find yourself stranded upon the shore with the evidence you long have sought yet unable to advance, then listen well and take notes. This is Orine Oscar Lutwidge, one other lonely noon; drunk in ecstacy upon the way to rapture.

Gah, I don't know if any of this helps at all, but I figured I'd throw my own two cents in for once. I've been watching this topic for a while; first time posting—hope some of this helps.

EDIT: I'm thinking this may go back to figuring out what notes to play in the jewelry box. If the right sequence of notes is played in the jewelry box, will the microphone in the metal box "pick it up," so to speak?

I found two anagrams of Andrew Ryan in there, and if you are willing to accept non-consecutive letters there are even more... Lutwidge really was obsessed.

all this talk of right under his nose, there is one thing we are all ignoring. The map, the original website. I am going to comb through and look for hidden ciphers, notes, something. I have no idea what to look for so if anyone else wants to help...could be paranoia, but that's the kind of thing they might expect us to overlook.
