Thursday Washington DC

Whew. I'm glad that pesky 13:53 Washington DC axon is finally hot. I met those 3 guys myself earlier in the day, Aliendial. I was waiting outside the Federal Trade Commission building for the 13:02 call, and they arrived just before the phone failed to ring Sad I showed them the three phone locations for the Georgetown site I'd found yesterday; I'm glad they activated it successfully. Was it the phone next to the stairs on the left (when looking up the stairs)?
Below is a map of the 13:02 area:

The red star marks the GPS coordinates, the blue dot is a pair of verizon pay phones. One phone has been ripped out, the other (202 789 9467) accepts incoming calls and rings loudly, but there was no call at the appointed time. There aren't any other phones close, I asked earlier for a pay phone inside the trade commission building, but nobody knew of one except the one outside. I scouted around outside after the failed attempt, and there are phones inside the Metro station (Naval Archives stop, Pennsylvania and 7th, north side). There may also be a phone in the Naval History Center even further northwest. If I can get out of work early, I'll check the metro phones tomorrow.

And also, what is the link to the site with all of the numbers and their locations?

chappy - Yes it was the one on the left. I covered the other one in case, and let the boys get the "real" one.

Re the one on Penn Ave - I guess I missed that when assembling my list Tuesday. The boys must have had the time wrong - they headed there from Washington Harbor.

I was there again, and I thought I would be doing it alone, but at the last minute two nice young men from the Halo forums dropped by. I let one of them take it after rehearsing him thoroughly. Smile I have a pic I can post later; didn't get their names but they may drop by to see what UF is doing because we have so much info about what is going on.

I'm the one who answered the phone yesterday in D.C. Very Happy It was one of the coolest things I've done all summer! I was actually pretty nervous, but aliendial walked me through it. So now I'll be on these boards at least until ILB is done.

One thing about these boards though is that the organization is great. I was previously on the bungie.net forums and the halo.bungie.org forums, and they were just being hammered by n00bs. I guess I'm a n00b here too, but I'll keep a low profile and try not to get to big for my britches.

Anyway, this whole shpiel is so cool, and thanks aliendial for letting me answer that phone!

I just spent 30 minutes at the 17:11 San Francisco axon with 8 other people. We staked out several phones in the area, to no avail. Now I come home and see that the axon is cancelled!

Sad

Anyone else willing to/going to the 17:51 San Diego Axon? I got there too late before, it seemed like a bank of four pay phones would be our best bet, and they all appeared to work.

Hopefully they didn't mess up and pick one of the ones inside the san diego zoo, that would be the bummer. The coordinates seem to be based off of the 2920 zoo drive address.

DUDE, where's my phone?

Report for the 17:11 San Fran location:
I must say that I was really glad to see the turn out today for this location. Addict and SYFer were there, even a couple from The Berkley Extreme Team showed up to lend a hand. We had a group of about 10 people total. On my way, I ducked into the Goodwill (corner of Van Ness and Mission) real quick just on a lark that they might have a pay phone. They did! I called it, it accepted calls. Addict found some phones hidden in a lobby of the office building next to the B of A building that rang when called, and I was sure it had to be those. Earlier in the day, I found a lone phone further way on Market, but still visible from the phones I was guarding on the 24th. So we split up and covered all phones that would accept calls. Again, the time comes....NO DICE!!! My phone did not ring. Addicts bank of phones in the office building lobby did not ring either.
So in the last 3 days we have covered 7 phone locations totaling 10 pay phones and NONE rang. At this point, there are no more phones to cover that are more than a block and a half away from the GPS coordinates. Unfortunately, I won't be able to hit this location in the next three days as I will be out of town till Sunday night, but at this point I am (for real) out of options.
In all though I was glad to see everyone turn out for this axon, even if it may truly be a dud. We discussed the .wav files and some SPEC afterward. Smile
So to recap, 17.:11 is no go, many thanks again for everyone turning out for this!

I'm going to get to the 11:05 axon at 32nd Street & Indian School Road in Phoenix, AZ tomorrow if it kills me. I was there yesterday and it didn't ring, but I want to try again just to be sure, I might have been late. Anyone in the Phoenix area going? I didn't see any more phones in the vicinity, but I might not have looked hard enough. I had very little time to do so, after all.

(By the way... yes, I too am a Penny-Arcader. *hides* But in the last few days this game has taken over my mind, and I'm desperate to contribute an axon.)

woah, the 17:11 SF hi_aiden axon has is listed as "CANCELLED - AXON ERROR". Now I don't feel so bad after not getting a call these past three days.

I am stunned that nobody out of the huge group that went to the other San Diego location bothered to go to the Zoo in the last three days. It's not that far away.

I _may_ consider going there tomorrow or Saturday, but Saturday would be more likely. I'll check back tomorrow.

I was one of the people at the 5:11 San Francisco location today. When I came home and saw that the axon had been canceled (the only one to be canceled so far), I felt the San Francisco team had been vindicated.

Can It Bee?

So many of us tried, but to no avail
We knew there was no way we could fail
If Melissa is here in San Francisco
Why was the 5:11 axon a no-go?

You might think that I'm being prissy
I think canceling an axon is sissy
People miss work and run all over town
While this smooth Operator let us down

There was three in San Diego? I was under the impression that there were only two {by the McDonald's near Ikea and near the Zoo}, and both got activated on the first day. Where was the third, if there was indeed a third?

There are only two in San Diego. Nobody went to the Zoo, apparently. This is hilarious, considering I saw over a dozen people at the first location all peeling out simultaneously right after the call. Then again, maybe nobody wanted to deal with the traffic.

I left work early to join the bees fray,
with the same ploy that I used on last Tuesday.
Most bosses would object to such derring do
But this boss is a drooling Halo fan 2!

Long did we mill around the Market spot
Three days did we come to make this axon hot.
But our fair goal was to remain unrevealed,
With words 'Axon Cancelled,' forevermore sealed.

(I predict, from the talent displayed here, that we will need a Bay Area gathering/poetry reading after this is all over Shocked)
