PLEASE G*D NO! The last thing in the world we need is MORE axons! We will be here months waitng for every posible axon to go hot if they keep replacing them until get there. This is more likely a way for the phase to roll to a close. It seems that we do 'need' all the axons accounted for. By 'Cancelling' them the PMs can still reach completetion without every stinkin' last phone from being answered.

Well, it wouldn't be so bad if the Second Wave axons sprouted closer to Beekeepers who haven't been able to get to First Wave axons due to time or distance constraints. (I'll tell you this for nothing - if a replacement axon pops up in Kingston, New York, I'll be all over it!)

Quick explanation of the terms First Wave and Second Wave:

The First Wave axons were the co-ordinates originally posted by the Operator on the Links page, complete with status bars and all - and at least one of them (hi_aiden 1) was created with bad data. The Operator discovered this, and marked it off as "CANCELLED: AXON ERROR".

Second Wave axons would be new axons, sprouted with new (and double-checked) co-ordinates, to replace any First Wave axons that were created using bad data and subsequently cancelled.

Amen to that! I used Dana's distance calculator (useful, that) to check all the axons anywhere near my coordinates, and there was nothing for at least 400 miles in any direction. Sorry, but I can't take a weekend to go answer a payphone with school AND work right now. But if there was one the next city over, I'd take a couple hours off and pull my weight!

[meta] I wonder how the PMs decided that this one axon was no good? Why is this one special? Possibilities I can think of:

(a) They watched the various player forums and noticed everyone complaining about their troubles with it. But players here have been complaining about many other phones and those are not off the list.

(b) The autodialer reported back a failure message from the phone company for that phone. But this would mean that all the other numbers did not report such a failure, and with the large number that we have not yet made hot, this seems hard to believe (though not impossible).

(c) The same PM who logged the GPS coordinates of the phone in the first place was at the location for one of the scheduled calls and confirmed it really didn't go through.

Any other possible unique qualities to this axon that I missed?

Or a PM personally verified that the phone didn't work whenever he/she/they felt like it, because PMs don't have to wait until a particular time. And almost certainly not when there were a couple dozen ILBers hovering about, I'd guess.

(...Which, if nothing else, does at least suggest that one of the PMs is somewhere in the vicinity of San Francisco. Hmm, do we know anyone else in this ARG who lives in the San Francisco area? Mr. Green )
