New Game(s)? Vandervecken.org and Vandervecken.com
There are a couple of new "Vandervecken" websites that seem ARG-related.

While working on a writing project of my own (and conducting various Google searches), I've stumbled across two interesting websites.

http://www.vandervecken.org says it is the "Vandervecken Society" which is "a personal excellence and human progress advocacy organization". The site appears to consist of that single web page. Interestingly, the web page title is "Decode".

The page includes a quote from the Larry Niven novel "Protector" (which included a character nicknamed Vandervecken, as well as lots of information about the original Dutch legend of Vandervecken). The primary item on the page is an image that appears to be derived from Salvador Dali's painting "The Madonna of Port Lligat", which also is referenced in "Protector".

Thus I'm thinking this all might be related to the fact there is a new Niven novel ("Destroyer of Worlds" which supposedly is a sequel to "Protector") coming out in November 2009. So perhaps the website is connected to the release of that new book.

The second website (which was natural to check after stumbling across the first one) is http://www.vandervecken.com. It also appears to be a single page, containing only a fuzzy image for "Vandervecken Cybernetics" and subtitled "The Science of Control". Clicking the image brings up a short (10-sec) video clip from a 1950s anti-communist film.

At this point, there appears (to me) to be no connection at all between the two sites, except the fact that both use a Vandervecken domain.

I've searched on Unfiction and elsewhere and haven't found any other references to these Vandervecken websites. Has anyone come across these before as part of anything already in progress? Or are they part of a new game(s)?

Probably not new games, either one.

The first one feels like I've seen it before, somewhere, but not as part of any game. The second one is making reference to a movie based on the 1924 Russian novel "The Forty-First" by Boris Lavrenyov

The internet is full of odd little sites that certainly can hold mysteries worth digging into, but that doesn't mean they were built with the intention of being a game.

(p.s., no need for the URL tags in your post, just paste the URL and the forum will make it a link for you)

semi-double post follow-up...

Poking around the IP address of the server for www.VANDERVECKEN.COM I did find some other interesting projects.
http://www.CASUALLETHALITY.COM is the blog of some guys building science projects, and they've posted videos
http://www.youtube.com/user/anarkiwi
http://www.ANARKIWI.COM is also hosted on the same server, but just redirects to the same home page as VANDERVECKEN.COM

Of course, I still don't think these are supposed to be trailheads, just a glimpse at someone dabbling with science and sharing it.

(third edit)
Found this interesting bunch of photos linked from the blog: http://gallery.vandervecken.com/
See? Just a bunch of science geeks -- which is still cool for its own sake.

(fourth edit)
Going back to the other unrelated site, VANDERVECKEN.ORG
seems to have been created by this guy http://www.elliotthall.org/
