If you look at his twitter site, you will see that a few minuites after I had posted here saying that he could be the true Ratliff, about a thousand people started tweeting him asking if he was for real. He has so far denied all allegations of being Ratliff and going so far as to say "No, I AM NOT EVAN. Jesus!"

I think it is safe to say that he is a red herring. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

if you're interested in the hunt for Evan Ratliff the best way to connect
to the community right now is via twitter. search for #vanish and
you can hook up with others. there is a ton of crazy spec on the
twitter board.. best to check out wired's vanish page
http://www.wired.com/vanish/ and Nicholas Thompson's
twitter page @nxthompson. Nicholas has the best info cuz
the rules state that Evan can't lie to him. Nicholas doesn't
know Evan's location and shares clues.

see you on twitter Cool Cool Cool

It seems that many of you are neglecting the website they are using to give information.

http://www.wired.com/vanish/

There is a new puzzle... from the future!

Teeuwynn received an email this morning that she says comes from a legitimate source and that includes clues about Evan. Here it is:

HST—FaLiLV/tRD:aN/HA:aSaTS; TW—tRS/tEKAA/tBotV; FSF—TItN/tGG/tCCoBB; JC—LJ/HoD/aOoP; JM—JGS/MWS/tBotH; GD—BB:aBaJ/tCoM/tMotS; see GR

If you know what it means, put information in the comments section or on twitter at #vanish.

As of this posting, it is 2:06 PM EST... so unless he's in another country (or I'm wrong about something), the time is wrong, or could be a clue. Why else would it be three hours ahead?

EDIT: People found out the answer to the riddle in the comments already. It appears that they are lists of authors and the books they have written.

Hunter S. Thompson - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas / Hell's Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga

Tom Wolfe - The Right Stuff / The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test / The Bonfire of the Vanities

F. Scott Fitzgerald - Tender is the Night / The Great Gatsby / The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Joseph Conrad - Lord Jim / Heart of Darkness / An Outpost of Progress

Joseph Mitchell - Joe Gould's Secret / McSorley's Wonderful Saloon / The Bottom of the Harbor

Geoff Dyer - But Beautiful: A Book About Jazz /The Colour of Memory / The Missing of the Somme

Tracy Kidder - The Soul of a New Machine / Mountains Beyond Mountains / Strength in What Remains

I wrote this, but I forgot to put "The Rum Diary: A Novel" in between the other two.

Oh, and the time zone for the wired.com site is UTC.

We got an ARG-like puzzle tonight, that may be relevant to this contest. Can we solve it?

Riot Sage At Rome T, van to S. F. port. She beat them there. I may go into tame chat. Ending nigh.

The current theory is that words must stay together. So far we have:

Go/tame/s/sage/f/romE/van ("Got a message from Evan")

See anything else?

go/tame/s/sage/f/rome/van/to/night/there/port/i/she/may/beat/t/ending/them/at/chat/riot/into/

Got a message from Evan tonight. The report is he may be attending the match at rio tinto.
