The answer to the trivia question could be Barringercrater which was sometimes confused with the other blast photos, Tunguska

Arcas, I left a word out of the first question, my phone was cutting out while I was talking to Rose. It should be:

How many worlds cloaked in green?

I guess we need to see if Rose or whoever she is passing the stuff to, can get to Ansonia Station Post Office.

zip for Ansonia Station is 10023

It may have moved since Nora's time, hope they took boxes intact to new local.

If this doesn't work out, Madison Square Post office in on 23rd street.

Of interest on the desk is a 20 Kronor note and a ticket on the Rygerfjord.

I'm late again and missed all the excitement. Sad
Thank you very much for helping us, Rose, and kudos to all for solving the puzzle(s). Now that Arcas explained the 'blue eyes' part, I'm feeling dumb for not seeing it myself. Embarassed

I never had a deposit box so I don't know how they 'work'. Is it possible that we need to find a key (#1784) - like the one on Daniel's desktop - and use it on box number 230963, or are those boxes secured with combination locks and the combination for box #1784 is 230963?

Applicants,
It has come to my attention that some of you have been using the materials I supplied to engage in unapproved research activities, during which unlawful acts may have been committed. Due to the sensitive nature of our work, and particularly in light of recent legal troubles, I'm afraid this irresponsible breach of trust cannot be tolerated.

I'm sure you'll understand that I am unable to extend the position to any of you at this time. I ask that you cease all activities related to the materials I supplied.

I sincerely apologize to those of you that had nothing to do with this unfortunate incident.

Darn! Sad

ETA - I was looking at that picture of Cooper's desk that Fritz took, and just to the right of the stack of photos there is a red ticket envelope that says Rygerfjord on it. Looks like a Swedish $20 note on top of it. Here's a link to the hotel:

http://www.rygerfjord.se/english/index.html

Sounds like he's planning a trip Question

Alas poor Fritz...

Looks like both 1784 and 230963 are conceivable PO box #'s at Ansonia Station:

actual address's

PO Box 230822, Ansonia Station, New York, NY 10023
P.O.. Box 1502, Ansonia Station, New York, NY 10023

Maybe the 4 digit are the old location, and the 6 digit the new??

Like Trillian, I don't know how this works, would the key be labeled with something other than the box # it goes to?
Do we have a consensus on 230963 (total 23)???
Would hate for Rose (or her stand-in) to make a dry run...

A cassette tape dated November 15, 1986 was recovered from the PO Box. I don't know what it says yet.

Nope, nobody got fenwicked this time. Very Happy

The person who has the tape realized they don't have a cassette tape player, so they will be borrowing one tomorrow.

I found this very funny until I realised that I don't think we have a functioning cassette player either.

Thank you so much sifaka!! Rock On

I don't understand all Norene says, but what I gather is that she apologizes for making it complicated and hiding the tape, and the moment she begins to tell her secret, the tape stops? Shocked Silly
Let's hear what Fritz thinks about it...

Just jumping in here!

I've been lurking here for a bit now, and I just thought I'd say "hi" and let you know I am following along and trying to figure out as much as I can. I have to agree that it is surprising how little attention this has recieved, considering the scope of really well-done information out there!

I'm starting to wonder if this has anything to do with any films coming out. As the BSAU website states in the "about" section:

Quote:
We are the keepers of the world's largest collection of Smyth artifacts, including many official documents, photographs and a great deal of personal correspondence. In preparation for the 2012 quasquicentennial anniversary of Smyth's death, the Institute is currently scrutinizing every piece of this vast collection in order to develop our most thorough and informative endeavor to date. The project will include a traveling exhibit, a companion book, and perhaps most excitingly, a feature film on Smyth's life, due for release in the quasquicentennial year.

There is, in fact, so much information out there, that it is hard to tell what is part of this, and what is a coincidence. (There are also so many strange "real" websites online that it is sometimes impossible to imagine that they really are real, Shocked .)

For example, my web searches keep coming up with a number of suspicious sites, such as:

http://oldchildrensbooks.com/donkeys.php

which has strange comments in it, the most possibly relevant being this:

Quote:
White, Anne H /Don Freeman. The Uninvited Donkey. Viking, 1957, 1st; 223 pp. A "heavenly summer" at the Linian's house at the shore is made even more interesting for the four children by the arrival of Fra Diavolo, an Italian donkey, who causes as much chaos as possible. Humorous writing. 9894 juv . VG/0; spine ends lt frayed, upper corners bumped, spine sl faded. $16

The quotes around "heavenly summer" (the star chart Question from Jason's desk, the stars on the BSAI website, etc.), the "Italian Donkey" (Cognomi was "written off as a lunatic"), the "four children" (four "scientists on the voyage") and of course, most obviously, "the Linian's house at the shore".

Very, very weird (and this may all be real, so feel free to trout me!) is the other quote on the page,

Quote:
"Oops! This was a nice list; but it brought us to a collector of books on Donkeys, and he bought them all, except one, the Tammen, which he already had. Sorry! But as it is a nice list, we'll leave it here, while we try to find more!"

What is the "Tammen"? Why on earth would someone be a "collector of books on Donkeys"?? ([Meta] Then again, you should see some of the things my mother has started buying up since she discoved eBay! Laughing)

[One thought - "donkey" = "don key" ... KEY?]

Do any of the names on this page sound familiar from anything else we have discovered?

.....

News:
http://www.peterharbeson.com/ "Simplify, Simplify" has been updated. Clue #1 is no longer there. (If anyone has a copy of the first source file found could you please PM it to me? Thanks!)

One last thing (I started writing this post yesterday Question , and have done more reading and research since. Has anyone looked through the Google Earth files (and read all the comments) that Ben Macker posted here:

http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&topic=806009&gonew=1

I just went through them all, and there is interesting stuff! It certainly adds a lot of information to what is on his blog, as well as containing names and reference to "the pocketknife". I'm trying to compile a list of names mentioned on all available sites (as well as a list of all related sites! lol)

I also assume that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the "model" on Norene's desk is Rand's first "breakthrough" with the sticks and balls (and I believe a copy of the "merkabah" -his temporary word for it- that allows him to travel great distance)
As it says in his post at:
http://thisisrand.wordpress.com/2009/04/18/vantage-point/
"They just left them in that one shape, right on the desk."

.....

I'm looking forward to listening to the tape Rose found! (Great work, Rose! I'm glad I don't have to find a babysitter so I can drive/train into the city... though the thought of doing so was rather exciting!) Poor Fritz - he was really onto something! (and from the look of his nameplate, he'd been working there for a while!)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I also think that it's possible that Rand and DP are part of the "bloodline" - more access to Norene's note's would be invaluable to piecing this all together.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Also, could Rand have been working with Norene, while Ben's parents were working with the BSAI?

....

Sorry this post is so long! If I have made any errors in the way I have posted this, please let me know, and I will edit it! Thanks!

Sifaca, thank you so much for meeting up with Rose and running around the city for us. And a big thank you for getting a tape player and posting the tape. Worshippy Fritz has asked if it's possible to get scans/pictures of all the materials from the library and the PO box.

osofine, welcome to uF! It's nice to have you aboard. You found so very interesting things. I have no idea where all this will lead, but the journey there, most assuredly will be fun. Very Happy
