Hmmm...drank from the cup willingly.
Now, it's been a while since I've had any religious studies, but I wonder if this is some theological reference, i.e., Gethsemane?

Matthew 26:42 "He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."

Since Sotpyrk thinks they're cleansing the world, that would make John as the dying for the world's sins figure?

Perhaps, though I'd hate to postulate that Sotpyrk and John would be doing this to PREVENT any catastrophe, and "dying for the world's sins"indicates a reference to forgiveness. Sotpyrk has made it clear they're not looking to forgive or save anyone.
