I tried the phone number in the Whois, and it leads to a (what I assume to be) OOG company that just hides Whois information on the part of the domain owner. They have no voicemail, and simply tell you to e-mail the address in the Whois.

In other words, who ever is PMing this ARG, really, really wants to stay hidden OOG.

Googling the address with the street number brings up nothing, but Dorset Drive, there are several:

Ontario, Canada
Morrisville, PA
Alexandria, VA
Mechanicsburg, PA

These all show as having a road named Dorset Drive, assuming that Dorset Drive is indeed a real place and not just made up for the ARG.

Yup, I googled the number to confirm it was a whois privacy number, so never did call it, thanks for verifying.

Also, many registrars offer a private whois, so its not that the PM is going out of their way to obfuscate their identity anymore than anyone else. I have a few domains and always opt in to the private whois *shrug*

EDIT: Also, 1089comics lists "Kaitlyn Yi" as their featured employee, Kait's blog (punkthedress) is titled "Kaitlin Yi waxes matrimonial".

Kaitlyn or Kaitlin? Another slip-up perhaps?

True, however this is a third party company hired to hide the info, it seems. Either way, probably not a huge point, just something I noticed.

This seems to happen frequently... I'd assume they're the same person, because the PM has made the same mistake before with other names.

So, I was thinking about the original lead, the youtube video.

I still think the username seems a bit out-of-the-blue: Domikaitrix

I notice, Kai, the main actress's name in it, but still seems a bit random.

Then I got to thinking, I remember checking my youtube account for shared videos and couldn't find this video in my list.

Looking back at my email, the alert came not from youtube, but was a mail formed to -look like- a youtube shared video mail that actually came from domikaitrixSPLATgmail.com

Since the mail started off, "Hey, Kait here.", I figured I'd try sending an email off to -that- address. I'll let you know if I get any response.

Also, as Kait mentioned, I was able to find users name Domikaitrix on several other video sharing sites all with the original video (Evan, not Ethan) posted.

EDIT: Also, willing to buy more participants Wink

EDIT EDIT: I guess the only active "puzzle" we have at the moment is the flashing letters at the end of the teaser, so any ideas on those?

looking at the video of the 5x5 grid, I'm pretty sure its a Playfair Cipher:

http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/playfair.php

No clue how to solve one, but I'm sure you guys can figure it out.

/lurk

Edit: Nevermind I figured out how it works, I shall commence decoding, brb

Edit Edit: Using her cipher it decodes into:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

AD RS EH TY HE
EB RH LN IK IZ-> (I'll post both possible combos for us to decode)
FO/OF ZM/MZ IB/BI OS/SO BI/IB
BC/EA LQ/GL RK/KR HI/KL VL/LV

Anyone able to decode the mess? I think its definitely a Playfair cause not only is it a 5x5 grid, but there are no double letters, and the only missing one is X.

Using Playfair I get

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FO MZ BI SO IB AE QL KR KL LV
of zm ib os bi ea lq rk lk vl

Which doesn't seem to help much, I'll try running it through a second time as well, or trying some other ciphers on the result.

Good catch with the setup Wink

Transposition cipher? I'm at work, can't try it right now. >.< But maybe someone else can.

Google maps has four listings for 1089 Dorset Drive;

1089 Dorset Dr, Wheaton, DuPage, IL 60189
1089 Dorset Dr, Gastonia, Gaston, NC 28054
1089 Dorset Dr, Waldorf, Charles, MD 20602
1089 Dorset Dr, London, Madison, OH 43140

Since the 1089 Comics page mentions being on the "other coast" I'd say the most likely two are NC and MD. Since they're more coastal states. Having said that, the NC one has Google street view and looking at it, definitely NOT the kind of houses that are in the pic on the comic site.

So, if the place is real, then I'm plumbing for Maryland.

New Post is up on the PTD blog!

It seems that our struggle with the cipher has not gone unnoticed.

From the new post:

*ad printed back in the 60s
*CODED MESSAGE
*CIA reject

It shouldn't be too hard to narrow down now Smile

EDIT: While working on this cipher, I've accidentally come upon a LOT of meta for this game. Since it's not relevant to the game I won't be posting any of it, but it does give me some hope for this game Wink

It almost seems like this is a very very clever ARG game in disguise as a horribly made ARG game.

Just the feeling I get with these extremely hidden clues mixed in amid the clear and obvious ones.

Maybe a case of sup dawg herd u leik ARGs?

I'm in northern Virginia, if push comes to shove I'm willing to go up to MD and say Hi to whomever is around. Just make sure you mention I'm mute and can't talk - I say stupid stuff when I'm nervous, prolly mess up the entire ARG. lol

Still no luck on that cipher, sadly Sad

Ever since it was suggested as playfair I just can't seem to see it as anything else :/ I've tried a few different variations and tried running it through multiple passes, etc. Still nothing coherent I'm afraid.

But! I got a response to my email that I was trying to get through to 1089 Comics. (In the end I had to send it to Kait and ask her to pass it along)

Two pieces of information came of that line of communication.

1) Misteria is based on the West Coast, and has their largest fanbase there.
2) Misteria has a "big announcement" to be made "within a few weeks".

Right, I've posted on her blog. Let's see if she'll save us some searching and just send us the ad in question, lol.

Smile

So yes, I tend to go by Sam Rocz (samroxormas) in games, just in case you see that name around. Wink

Well, this is obviously still active; she's still posting. Shame everything here seems to have gone a little quiet...

I got a reply to my message.

Hey Sam,

Finally, someone commented again on one of my posts. (I was beginning to think that my family cursed this blog since I pulled down everything they liked about it).

Glad you dug the video, though you know all the trouble it landed me in. Oh well, can't blame a girl for expressing her creativity right?

I'd love to just hand this assignment off to someone who gets a kick out of codes and spy stuff, but Garrett (and Bea Arthur, I suspect) would flail my hide if I sent anything out.

I appreciate the offer, though.

So, I sent her a suggestion, for lack of anything better to do and to try and gain her trust and stuff.

Hey, no probs. I totes understand.

Maybe this'll help you. You could try a Caesar cipher on your text. That's really easy, just means swapping all the letters for another letter of the alphabet instead, for example all the A's become B's, all the B's become C's… etc.

Have a look at the wiki page for a better idea, if I'm not making myself clear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_cipher

If that's not complicated enough let me know and I'll share you something else!

Best,
Sam

Anyone home?!

Got a new blog reply, she wanted something a little more complicated so I suggested a Vignere.
