Law & Order: Criminal Intent Rips LG15

Tuesday night's episode was Weeping Willow 17.

Vlog for a young girl with a film school boyfriend. Seemed to be a staged kidnapping with the ransom demanding the public download videos from their website.

I hope the LG15 team gets some royalties for this.

From what I remember of L&O (Insert spin-off series here if necessary) adverts, they are quite proud of the fact that their stories are often "ripped from the headlines." This doesn't surprise me. Heck, they even went after a Karl Rove-type character in an episode (this? last?) season, involving a leaked name to the press.

It reaired tonight and I watched it pretty thoroughly...

the show should give some aspiring developers some pause when approaching the creation of a game. In the show they create a script for a "game" which involved a kidnapping. It showcases several mis-steps that could occur for inexperienced developers.

I'll spoiler in case someone wants to watch the show before reading the entirity of this post:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

First the crew steals a script from someone... bad bad bad - especially since they're trying to make money off of it, that would end up resulting in a situation where this crew could get sued and lose the money they made...

Second they hire "thugs" without doing background checks. One of the thugs ends up being a bit unstable and actually cuts the ear off of one of the other cast members... obviously a no-no.

Third they use guns with blanks without a professional loading the blanks, so of course the wadding in one of the guns is a little bigger than it should be and kills someone... yeah that's really definitely a no-no.

Fourth the story ends up involving law inforcement officers who spent a ton of money trying to find these people... yeah so always inform law enforcement when you're doing something that may spark their attention... this crew could have ended up paying out a ton of money for reimbursing the police not to mention possible jail time.

Fifth the guy in charge of the money doesn't keep it locked up and one of the cast members steal the money...
.

Much of this isn't likely to happen when developing a game, but it is wise to consider the consequences of your actions. Plan what you're doing and take everything into consideration... never know when some actor is going to cut your ear off Wink

As far as a rip of LG15... yeah kinda but they did put their own little twist to it Smile
