Just tell me: How many people have the hardware for this? Not many. That leads me to two ideas. First: There has to be a software solution. We have to scan all 200 Google pages or second: We do not have to decode it (as I said before). Maybe its like the .wav the code is only the half of the story. I cant imagine that someone would make the beginning that hard!

With UPS will it only work if the code is in the right mode. If its in another they cant read it either. And iI dont thinnk that they borrow you a reader =)

Or Third: it could be an oversight.

I'll be honest... I'm actually surprised there isn't a readily available MaxiCode decoder on the 'net anywhere. A "newbie" (pardon the term; you know what I mean by it) puppetmaster might have made that same assumption without checking whether it *is* possible to decode by the players.

I think deciphering is essential; I'm willing to bet it will lead us to some website somewhere.

And UPS invented MaxiCode, so I'm going to assume they can read it in whatever mode it may be in. Razz

I may actually be able to help with this one. I work second shift and my area is right across the hall from shipping. Our company UPS pickup happens around 8:30pm (it's about 4pm now). I'm going to ask him if his scanner can read the code. The night shipping guy knows, too, so hopefully we will be able to get an answer.

Aw man, that'd be fantastic!

I have no doubt that the maxicode is important.

Having had no luck trying to decode it, I have decided to take the direct approach and have e-mailed UPS asking if they would decode for a maxicode for me.

Think they will tell me to get lost, but hey, who knows......

Unfortunately the UPS guy's scanner wasn't equipped to read those codes. Back to square one.

Apparently they did, in the IRC channel. Since it's not the place to do so, I won't replicate here, and make the PM make some actual effort to throw hints in.

Oh dear. Well hopefully, s/he'll get creative soon. The feeling of uselessness on this one is starting to get to me :]

Well that's silly, considering that UPS invented MaxiCode! Razz

PM, if you're reading this, you know where to find me. I can be very cooperative in providing information to the masses. Laughing

I've just gotten into ARGs, so please pardon me if this seems a bit off, but...is it possible this code isn't Maxicode? I was thinking Braille? Possibly inverted, reversed, or something of that nature to resemble Maxicode? It just seems odd to me that UPS scanners won't translate the code even though they invented it. There must be something funky about it.

Just got another mention from longnnumbers person. I don't really have any questions, so somebody else can take care of that part.

Quote:
576683922 (1:20:16 AM): first off this is a maCro. Dont expect detailed replies.
576683922 (1:22:09 AM): I went about this the wrong way.... Bullzi's arnt popular For another 6 years. I mean plaintext maxicodes. i Cant get the stream right, For that i am sorry. i have Come up with a method that will work much better. apparently I tried it in the past and Failed, but this should be the final recursion, I'm sorry for the ConFusing artifacts.
576683922 (1:23:42 AM): I left a note to myself.... something about Pixels. Use that. Find the one of you that owns them.
576683922 (1:24:46 AM): You posted this? Tell them. They must find the watcher that owns... pixels...
576683922 (1:27:21 AM): It understand you want to trust me... please post one question is a public place and I'll add it to the end of this macro. Well you already have, but you understand what I mean.
576683922 (1:32:55 AM): If timing is right, your current means of documentation is not functioning... NOBODY cant contact me...
576683922 (1:37:08 AM): Not available yet.
576683922 (1:39:01 AM): I cant say. but there will be more.
576683922 (1:40:05 AM): It's plain text.

I cut out my side of the conversation because it was referred to as a macro and my comments didn't really have much to do with the content that followed.

EDIT: and, I just got chided for doing so, so here's the full text. To explain the end of it: I complained a little in IRC during both conversations with longnumber person because I don't particularly like receiving unsolicited AIM trailheads (I was watching Monk at the time). I'm not the only one to hold that sentiment. Admittedly, I opened the door for this by providing my contact information in my profile (I've corrected that now), which is why I've been doing what I can to see this through to the point where it opens up for interaction with other people.

These comments are not meant to malign the game in any way: it still seems too early to judge whether this game is going to be awesome, but the potential is definitely there.

Doublepost for another update:

Quote:
576683922 (2:11:29 AM): Um... I have a note that says for you to tell anyone else to message this icq and I will play the next file for them.

EDIT: apparently nobody responded fast enough because I got sent the file.

Quote:
576683922 (2:28:44 AM): oh... um... ok... you might want this... I'm supposed to document things... you know and share them for him....
ATTENTION (2:30:13 AM): Transfer complete: Gordius1.zip.
576683922 (2:31:20 AM): I was supposed to play it for you.... but you but you did not answer... I guess that's ok... but it's yours I guess...
576683922 (2:33:26 AM): then I have a nother file, but it has no name on it... I'm supposed to play it for the next call... I dont like being strung along, but I have to... this guy knows my information... name... phone number... everything... even my social...
576683922 (2:34:07 AM): I dont know why I'm telling you this...

If anyone else is interested in this game, please take point. I don't have time for this right now.
576683922 (2:34:26 AM): I better not say any more....[/quote]

The zip has a .wav file in it called Gordius1.wav. You've got to change the extension to .mid for it to work.

Edit: Right now, it (the sound) kinda reminds me of Transformers Razz. Oh, and hi. Very Happy

After speeding the playback of the file up 1.30 speed you can understand what he is saying.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
" Yes, *inaudible*, Im coming off thus far as aggressive and anxious, Im trustworthy, I cant tell you everything, I cant tell you everything but I can tell you that there are things I dont need to know yet, well, I know them but I dont need to know them. Yes, right, My **** is recording this yes, I must apologize for being cryptic but you'll understand in time why. Look for pixels, the watcher that owns the pixels, he has the link. Im sorry I cant be more specific, I cant be more specific, there is a chance that I may listen to these files and know something before I should. I understand your frustrations, I cant be more specific, it is another person" and then cuts off.

We need to figure this pixel thing out.
