Do we know where Alex lived before he was to never be seen again? Where was the film school?

Can you post a screencap of that? I checked out Entry 3, and it does look like there's a lot of extra stuff on that map. I thought it was a topographical map at first, but those blotches don't look like mountain ranges to me. Interesting that it's shown twice in Entry 3.

The locations of Marble Hornets haven't been revealed yet. From what I remember, J said it was an issue of safety/privacy.

J's twitter account has been an interesting counterpoint to the Marble Hornets story. I believe J plays the role of an unreliable narrator, leading us to follow the incorrect assumptions we would naturally come to anyway. His interpretations/tweets have been fairly misleading in the long run - as new Entries provide new information, we are forced to rethink a lot of what we thought about previous Entries. J is unreliable because he does not know the whole story, and can only view its asynchronous documentation in small amounts at a time. His insomnia is further proof that J cannot fully handle the responsibility of comprehending the full truth (as totheark noted, J cannot be trusted because he is only human).

 		Three theories about distortion and it's role in Marble Hornets:

Distortion used to blot out competitors
Entry 5 shows J and Alex hanging out looking for locations. Entry 12 shows Alex getting along with his film crew. It's interesting that Slender Man would go to the trouble of adding audio/video distortion to this footage. I have a feeling Slender Man doesn't like Alex spending time with others, so he blots it out. To date, Entry 5 has produced the most emotional response from J's twitter: "Found something new. I don't like watching it." I think J can subconsciously tell what Slender Man was trying to do.

Silence used to underline Slender Man's alone time with Alex
Now look at the footage when Alex is alone with Slender Man - the audio is usually removed. It creates a more intimate scene, which adds to the creepiness factor considering he's a tall faceless monster in a suit.

Distortion as Slender Man's voice
Entry 7 was interesting, as the distortion only cuts in when Alex is driving away in fear of Slender Man. The distortion sounds like a pained cry, and somewhat sounds like "Alex" when the audio clip is reversed and the pitch is raised. Entry 13's distortion cuts out the audio entirely as Alex is seeking out Slender Man, though the distortion is much more gentle. When the audio clip is reversed and the pitch is lowered, it also sounds like "Alex".[/b]

In regards to where the school is, and what we know about the location:

The university they attended is Carnegie Mellon, which has its headquarters near Pittsburgh. There are quite a few areas there which can be seen as wooded areas. It's said that the film location was within a mile of Alex's home. Assuming that the home is either his or his parents, and he didn't travel to go to school, it's pretty safe to say that the location for all of this particular activity is within the Pennsylvania area.

PS, I'm bad. Even if he came from somewhere else, it seems assumable that the friends he had made through the school, including his actors and "J", were probably living within the same general area. When he ran off, they're still there.

Someone mentioned that he may teleport or something similar and this could lead to the distortion on the tapes.

I think it is possible or maybe in entry #13 their is more than one of them? Slender men perhaps?

I think they pretty much decided on the SA forums that there is just one. Slender MAN, not men ... and that he can teleport ... hence why he can be in one spot one moment and then a completely different location the next.

Only reason I bring SA up is because there is a person on there that has claimed to be "J". That is, he claims to be the one that loads the MH vids up on youtube.

 		Just a few thoughts on top of my head before i go to bed...

Exit could very well be the missing footage in entry 13 (around 0:26, the video cuts and the lighting changes drastically). though i can't find a point for alex to set his friend on a mission, then tape him, then run like hell and stumble upon SM...
still, the light at the end of Exit could match the light in entry 13 just after the cut...

on a different (and contradictory) point, The Operator could be one of the persons who have operated the camera for Marble Hornets, like the guy in entry 9 who gets yelled at by alex, or the girl in entry 12 who is indeed in a good position to know that "there was more"... and the message "remember me" could be directed to J rather than us...
