Posthumous(?) message from Dubrovin
It's like semi-James Bond

Quote:
Gentlemen,

If you are reading this message, then circumstances must have prevented me from logging into my account for more than 10 days.

It is possible that at this moment I am sitting on a yacht floating in a blue lagoon, congratulating myself on a job well done. It is also possible that there is no yacht at all, and I am lying at the bottom of the ocean.

I am contacting you in confidence because we have worked together in the past, and have developed a professional trust. No matter what has happened to me, I am not a traitor.

I now believe that we underestimated the persuasive power of the Junsui terrorist cult. The threat has metastasized. Despite our efforts, they have corrupted minds around the world. It is true that most of those seduced by their propaganda are weak-minded and relatively powerless, but together these desperate individuals have caused us considerable difficulty. Of a far greater concern, however, is the chance that there are Junsui-sympathizers within Alfa-Tsentr. I would never have believed that such a thing was possible, but events which have occurred since my arrival in Santiago have called many things into question.

As you may know, I was sent to Chile on urgent business to meet with a high-level government official. What you do not know is that when I arrived at his office, I was told that the person in question was not there, because someone from Alfa-Tsentr had already cancelled the meeting. I immediately called my contact at A-T to ask why I had just flown 5000 miles for no reason. This was a very unusual event in a company that prides itself on professionalism. They informed me that my task had changed. The next day I was told to meet with a contact in one of the city's myriad parks. I left my hotel near the the Palacio de La Moneda (where, I am told, there are still bullet marks in the wall from 1973) and caught a cab near a subway station on the Avenue of the Liberator.

Hearing my destination, the driver asked me if I was planning to visit the zoological garden. I have never been a leisure in Santiago, and so was frankly ignorant of its tourist destinations. I just told him the name of a hill, where I was to meet my contact. I did not realize until I was already locked into the funicular that whoever I was meeting had a strange sense of humor. I was headed towards a giant statute of the Virgin. Any normal visitor to this part of the world would expect this kind of religious statuary. However, given the events of the past month including the accident in Tibet, I could not see this as a simple coincidence.

I do not normally travel with armed guard on visits to countries with stable governments. But in this case, I began to regret it immediately. My fears turned out to be unfounded, eventually diminishing. There was no ambush. If it was a trap, it was a subtle one. In fact, absolutely nobody showed up to meet me. I watched the procession of pilgrims and tourists praying at the base of the statue until the park closed, and I was ushered out. My irritation at this point was only overwhelmed by my bewilderment. You have to understand that this sort of rendezvous assignment is not the type of thing a person in my occupation is normally given. My expertise lies in communications and coordinating events. I am not a bag man.

Later, given assurances from a purportedly confused and apologetic A-T contact, I was finally told to meet with a contracted valet at a city library. A rather odd place to give someone confidential legal documents and their plane tickets for a flight to Manaus?

Trust, in my profession is essential. When two entities such as Alfa-Tsentr and Men of Taste work together, sharing both risk and information, a regular protocol develops between them. If this protocol is broken than there would appear to be a discontinuance of said trust. I do not know to whom else I can say this. I am not a traitor.

If you are receiving this, it means I may no longer be alive. I ask that you continue our efforts to eliminate the terrorist threat including within the very organization that is supposed to be their enemy. Trace them to their source.

Regards,
Alexander Dubrovin

Received five minutes ago.
Random thoughts: more about the "source", A-T or MoT has been infiltrated by the Junsui?, and it seems like he is dead.

That is bizarre. It seems too detailed.

Has anyone tried prodding Yuri on information regarding Dubrovin's death?

Is there anyone representing A-T? What I have is bits and pieces of info I gathered from lurking, but Dubrovin and Yuri are both MoT, right?

Yuri's an operator. I'm almost positive he's A-T. His email is at alfa-tsentr.ru

That always made me wonder, is why an AT rep took over for an MoT PR.

I was suspicious too, but didn't Dubrovin confirm Tretiak as his replacement? Was there anything suspicious about his last emails? Might have been fakes.

Dubrovin said nothing.

Maybe A-T killed him?
