Interesting, I always thought that it had the name of Stella first and foremost, and Syzygy was Nolan's earlier company, found a Syzygy power supply at work a month ago Smile

Am hoping that arcade game things are involved with this ARG. If nothing else, that is one field I can do ok without making a complete fool of myself Smile....

Has this been mentioned?
=================

Remember the tinyurl that went to the Beale Cipher page?

Remember Pareidolia.com? It came up with this:
http://pareidolia.com/index/2oc40.htm

Using the 2oc-0 found in the page, you can go to:
http://tinyurl.com/2oc-0

I can't see how it's relevant, but just there as a possible point of interest. Smile

I think that's taking things into the realms of pareidoliacism Wink

Hey, all, new ARGer here. I have a poor memory, and my puzzle-solving skills are poor, but I'm here to help and have a good time. Please use small trouts when beating me to death!

I like the way the Nolan thing is going. Just to recap:

Nolan is an avid Go player. I understand that Go tournaments are his current hobby. Interestingly enough, both Atari (the company he founded) and Sente (here is where my memory fails.. this term is in Syzygy somewhere, no?) are Go terms.

I've played a bit of Go: Atari is when a stone or link of stones is surrounded by all but one space on the Go board. Sente is "initiative." If the ball is in your court or your decision is meant to force the other's hand if played well, then you have Sente.

Go is both a game of technicalities and an art, depending on who you are. (Personally, I think this is why Nolan plays.)

Go may play a part in this game. For example, if we find ourselves facing opponents or tricky puzzles, we may find ourselves constantly facing the PMs "sente." Look out! Even if there is no Go theme, there will be Atari against us!

The use of Go terms could also be explained by the fact that Adrian plays it, as can be read here.

Greetings

Hi everyone,

Big ARG n00b here, but I thought I'd introduce myself anyway. I have enjoyed reading about all the different games and look forward to this one. I really want to participate in one of these, but I hate starting games half-way through. I'll hang out here till Syzygy starts up and look forward to contributing!

Welcome in and it looks like we will all have a joyful bunch ready to roll when the gates open here. Doin't think we will get any more clues until maybe a couple of weeks before the floodgates open. Bu5 right now, the word hibernation is what is going on.

And for real life, Nolan's new company right now is U-Wink, I think. not sure if he's still at it; that was 5 years ago. Will have to find out more.

And for anyone with the Bally home pinball of Fireball or Captain Fantastic or any of the other specialized home versions, if your computer is out, there IS a fix, coming in about a year. I am designing up a new hardware and software piggyback which will run it. 4 games and LOTS of goodies in the package. So its a case of having fun Smile....

I'm also new to this stuff. I'm really not sure if I'll be able to handle this, as I'm not too good at puzzles and such, but these things sound really fun, and this looks like as good a place to start as any. I've read (though not completely understood) the unfiction tutorial, and looked through some puzzles from past games, but I haven't done a lot of research. I was able to notice and decipher the letters in the source code (TE OE K MQD J JE IFUDT JXU HUIJ EV OE KH BY VU IU BBYDW IKWQ HUT M QJUH
EH TE OEK MQDJ JE...) before coming here, but that was about as far as I got. ARGs have always looked intimidating, but I'm hoping this will get my off to a good start.

Kage, welcome! Don't be intimidated ARGs are your friend!

Ok, they may not be, but we are Smile Always good to have new people join and we're ready to help you along the way if ya need it. It's a case of play and learn.

And if you're not very good at puzzles, don't worry, an ARG isn't an ARG if it's only puzzles. Storyline plays a massive part and so does spec on where the story will go, how it connects together so everybody is important. With each person having different skill sets and puzzles being so varied and wide, everybody can come into their own at some point.

Hey all,

I actually found this by browsing around the forums (I got bored after today's ILB axons came and went with no progress). I caught on to ILB from Penny Arcade, and it was already into Phase 3 by the time it caught my interest. SCC and Urban Hunt are all way too far into the game for my tastes (and much harder to catch up on than ILB), so I'm just glad to see an ARG where I can get on at the beginning.

Edit: I just sent an email to curious and the autoreply I got said that the game's not starting until early 2005 now. I guess it hit the great brick wall of delay, huh?

Hullo,

I'm very new to all this, having come here looking up ARGs after stumbling upon ilovebees.com.
I'm not brilliant at codebreaking and such, but I will be doing my best to learn more, I know a whole lot of useless facts and trivia.Living in the UK could prove useful for things like magazines and newspapers, as well as other such things.
This seems like a very friendly community and everyone very helpful.

Bring on the game.

By the way, when I went to the unfiction chat for Syzygy it said something about visiting projectsyzygy.com and predicaments.com for game sites. I went to predicaments.com but it looks like a very real website for a German DJ. Is there a reason for this link or what?

It was probably supposed to be pareidolia.com, I would assume. Maybe it got run through a spellchecker or something? Though that'd be weird in chat, and I think most skip URLs so that doesn't happen.

Hello there,

just spent the last four hours reading every single thread in PS' sub-forum. I must say i'm pretty much hooked already.... first sleepless night I've had in over a year, and it's because of this. Doesn't sound too good to me, especially since the game hasn't started yet!
Got here through ARGN, and got there after researching a certain guy who turned out to be into The Beast and posted on cloudmakers.

anyways, I understand there's nothing going on with PS for the moment, but reading over the whole thing, there were two questions that were left unanswered: the P on the bottom right and the image.
While I cannot say where that photo is from (and the pixelation is really not helping) I can tell you that the P is written in Edwardian Script.

helpful? most likely not. but at least one mind will be put to rest.

as for myself, completely new to ARGs, although I have picked up Pattern Recognition when I was in the UK some months back and loved it. Wasn't even aware that these kind of 'games' existed, and the whole Footage and F:F:F captured my attention from the first second.
I am an amateur when it comes to cryptography, but I will help wherever I can.
It will be in the more creative stuff that I will probably be of bigger help, either in the definition of artsy or in just being unconventional in thinking and coming up with weird ideas for leads.

yeah,

...

-=edit=-
something completely unrelated, but that perhaps is worth looking into:
i know the number on the post it was decyphered and all, but simply as it is next to a cell phone, the first thing that came to my mind is that it's a phone number.
I know that french cellphones have 06 area code and then 8 digits. fits...

what are the chances of a double hint in one clue?

Hi! Welcome here! If this turns out anything like what I imagine it to be, you have plenty of sleepdeprivation coming your way. We thrive on sleepdeprivation here Very Happy

As far as the ISBN being a phone number - possible, but unlikely, I think (I remember both Hons saying somewhere that we were done with the current puzzles, and that's why Adrian had his small puzzle offering). But I think you already agree with this.

P.S. I think there was one other thing unanswered - that "s" over the word "web"... still no idea what it means, and it just doesn't seem like it could be a leftover from some otherwise deleted text.
