Let me get IRC really quick, and I'll do that. :D

Edit: What server is that?

Here's the voice that appears right before and right after the tones. I wont say what I hear so it doesn't influence what you hear -- since it isn't too clear. Some type of voice synthesis or vocodor or something.

This probably isn't important and was probably figured out on IRC but it wasn't posted so here goes.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The picture is of Emily Dickenson.

There is a line at the bottom of the ascii picture that includes the name Emily

Hmm. That fits with what I was thinking earlier.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The numbers might represent words or letters from a specific Dickinson poem. Does anyone know if the voice at the start might be quoting from some specific piece of hers?

I found this poem by Dickinson, although matching the numbers to letters doesn't seem to produce anything intelligible, it is interesting.

Quote:
Whoever disenchants
A single Human soul
By failure of irreverence
Is guilty of the whole.

As guileless as a Bird
As graphic as a star
Till the suggestion sinister
Things are not what they are --

I'm kinda doubting the numbers represent characters from a poem, or something of the sort. There are several numbers which are repeated numerous times, such as 9. It is likely that such a common character in our code would appear more than once in the poem, so why not use other places it appears, instead of always 9?

Nice Find!! I think that definatly has something to do with this puzzle. I cannot make out much of what the male computer voice says, but even before i saw your post I thought i heard something about (dis)enchanted ones. But what could this poem mean?

I heard "(dis)enchanted" , too. I thought perhaps that the first words spoken by the male voice is "muse (is?)" and the last word, instead of "ones" might be "wines" or "vines".

Googling "Emily Dickinson" and "muse" brings up, well, quite a few unhelpful links.

"Emily Dickinson" and "wines" or "vines" also scores a couple of hits. Will take a further look down this road.

Mike

This is the tones file edited slightly to produce a more harmonic, slightly more pleasing to the ear tone to try and determing if anyone can recognize a song here. It is also sped up a bit.

edited to add a cleaned up normal and reverse message.

It also could be "disenchanted once".

By the way mike, welcome - and excellent first post! I don't think you got any props for finding the initial solve, so ... job well done. Smile

Thanks dish,
My first ARG (actually, I played Majestic, but I don't think that counts). I was lured here by the Halo/ilovebees thing, but that game is taking a little more legwork (and therefore time) than I can put into it, so I'm playing the role of bserver on that one.

Anyway, I'm sort of leaning back to the voice saying 'disenchanted ones'. I was hoping that perhaps the numbers could be somehow made into a phrase based on the letters that appear on a touch tone phone. Problem is that there are so many '1's in there. Does the phrase 'disenchanted ones' tell us to ignore the '1's in the code?

Taking out the ones:

220693942735292469899627983977043859274945982839

Don't know what to do with the zeros. Perhaps a wildcard or space.

Just grasping,
Mike

I dunno, good spec on the ones/1s, but there aren't enough 0s for it to represent proper word spaces...

Speaking of the voices, Jamie's answering machine greeting is obviously voice-synthesized as well.

I'm sticking to my theory that JC is a guy.

more message attempts

We're still trying to figure out what this message says. The mp3 posted above is much easier to listen to.

I took the best stuff I found in chat to come up with:

Re-use this mess to send Chan ted finds.

Doesn't make perfect sense, but it's closer than what we had before.

here's another possibility:
<Satanis7> reuse this list disenchated ones

and:
<Wishi-san> reuse this mess to send ?chanted? lines

any more ideas?
