I seem to remember on Kid Kenoma's blog a reference to "Have you seen the new Levenda?"

I can no longer find the post on the blog, and guess it must have been deleted.

Does anyone know to what that refers? Does Kid mean "The Manson Secret" book, or some new article or interview?

Or does it mean that KK is the "new Levenda"?

When I google Peter Levenda, I find that his personal websites are all down.

KK has also been referencing Culiano a lot, implying that his investigations into magic and the supernatural were what killed him--I'm wondering if KK is implying that the same will happen to Levenda (Levenda is "buying the staircase to heaven.")

Levenda has a new book on Freemasonry in America. Evidently it is not real earthshattering but haven't seen much about it. SInister forces is published by Trine Day so I went there and found a link to a coming soon website for Levenda. Is this the address that was taken down or a new one?

I guess that is the old site. whois search says it was registered in 2004 by Kris Millegan who is the Trine Day owner.

Of course there is ANOTHER Levenda book from 2007 that is a bit different. It is about Chinese business practices and their use of Maoist principles.

http://www.amazon.com/Mao-Business-Guerrilla-Trade-Techniques/dp/0826428517 but I doubt this is the book kk meant.

Here is a synopsis of the Freemasonry book:

Quote:
Synopsis

As the Reaction to his Previous Work Suggests, there will be some controversy over the accuracy of Dan Brown's facts regarding Freemasonry in his new novel, and his interpretation of those facts. How much of this new novel is "true"? How much is speculation? What is the Mason-Mormon connection? Were Masons involved in the American Revolution and, if so, in what way? Does America have a secret history? The reader will come away from Peter Levenda's thorough and engagingly written book with many of the answers to these questions.

You know it is odd. The I'm Sorry arg looked like it was getting into some of this, Masonry and the Mormon connection but unless I missed something, that storyline got dropped. There was even a link early on to a real life murder that had some Masonic connections.

However I don't yet see any Freemasonry stuff in Last Statue. Definitely an oblique reference to the Knight's Templar (which the "grand chingon" link in the sidebar points) but I would think his SInister Forces books about secret occult history would be more directly related. One of the books is focused on Charles Manson.

This format does not work for us, whether this has argish elements or not. I feel like something more like a wiki format would make sense. I think that our little tiff earlier was a matter of getting your peanut butter in my chocolate (if you are old enough to get that reference). By examining the history that the story thinly fictionalizes, you start to see more connections so even things like the various song lyrics start making more sense.

I am going to figure out a better format for this. It will have to be members only as I would be too nervous to just open a wiki like format for anyone but maybe we can set it so all can read. Ideas welcome.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/0826428509

and the "manson secret" is "temporarily out of stock" and fetching biggish prices on amazon etc

Code:
The creature in the sky
Got sucked in a hole now
There's a hole in the sky
And the ground's not cold
And if the ground's not cold
Everything is going to burn
We'll all take turns
I'll get mine, too

it's funny Steggy, some of your astrological/astronomical ramblings several pages back pointed right at this Levenda joint

Very Happy

I'm useless when it comes to knowing how to set up a wiki or anything like that, but I would really appreciate anything you'd be willing to do...

GM: Well, duh. Embarassed

Weird that I missed that. Of course, I am only on my first cup of coffee.

As an aside that probably now is not relevant, Robert Plant says the song Stairway to Heaven was inspired by the work of Lewis Spence, a rather reputable mythologist from the first part of last century:

So, will there be some backward masking in Levenda's book?

So is this all viral marketing for his books? Do I need to feel used now? Razz

From the amazon blurb:

Quote:
Product Description
Stairway to Heaven is an incredibly broad ranging new study that stretches from ancient Egypt and Babylon to Jewish and Christian Kabbalists, Chinese Daoists, Hindu Tantra and Haitian Vodun and finally to 19th and 20th century European occult societies, uncovering a hitherto unrecognized common myth that has been employed the world over in roughly the same form since the earliest recorded texts. Beginning with the oldest form of Jewish mysticism and extending this search through the dead sea scrolls, Levenda reveals a consistent emphasis on the number seven and its association with heavenly themes, including those of a chariot, a Throne, a Temple and a divine Being. The author then examines the myths and rituals of egypt, sumer and Babylon to locate the origin of this myth and comes up with some surprising results in the ascent rituals of the middle east. Shifting to the far east, Levenda demonstrates how the mystical practices of China and India display important similarities to these rituals, most notably in the practices of the Chinese alchemists who used a map of seven stars as their ladder to heaven.

Reinforced by visits to the Buddhist shrine of Borobudur in indonesia, Levenda concludes that there was a myth common to peoples across the ancient world that an ascent to the heavens was possible using a ladder of seven stars, a process running parallel to the alchemical idea of the perfection of metals and the perfectibility of the soul.

This concept was enshrined in the rituals of the Western secret societies of the 19th and 20th centuries such as the golden dawn and the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, and influenced the development of new age occultism. exhaustive in scope and revealing in its scholarship, Stairway to Heaven casts a fascinating new multidisciplinary perspective on the mystical practices of heavenly ascent.

Be interesting to read. It is hard to avoid "confirmation bias" when you have rather broad concepts like ascent and the number 7 but definitely a structuring element in Last Statue.

Actually, I asked that question directly to the authors of TLS, and they assured me that there was no direct connection to Levenda, although his books were used as source materials.

Levenda, of course, has a very interesting history, and is rumored (and I think it's been verified, in fact) to be "Simon", the author of the "Necronomicon" (owned by every aspiring 15-year-old wizard)...

So using the amazon preview, within the first few pages we see mention of Ursa Major as important to Egyptian "ascent" scriptures but I can't cut and paste it. So perhaps the star pairings are about connecting Egyptian and Greek traditions? They also incorporate the number 7 as there are 7 (major) stars of Ursa Major and 7 sisters of the Pleiades.

And a page later, reference to the "Opening of the Mouth" ceremony to bring the spirit of the god into the statue of the god. So if we have 30 statues, will we have 30 gods?

On page 94 is our list of planets as the Mithraic stages of ascent, with some differences in the associated metals.

You've done yeoman's work on this aspect of TLS...my head is spinning.

and though it's probably premature, would you venture to speculate on "what it all means?"

Do these occult clues lead to any greater understanding of their corresponding chapters, for example?
