[SPEC] Sleeping Princess's error pages.

I searched and didn't see anyone else mention this, so I hope I'm not screwing up on my first post... But, I noticed something that I think is a little strange about Sleeping Princess's error pages. On both of them she has a sentence describing her mood.

Quote:

Error Page 1:
"When I am smirking, I do this Wink"

Quote:

Error Page 2:
"I do this when I am insufferably pleased with myself , ho ho! :-0"

From what I've gathered from ILB, everything is done for a reason. In each error page, only one sentence has an emoticon. The format is very similar on both as well. Perhaps I am just making a big deal out of something insignificant. But, why emoticons? Why does she even bother telling us this? It just seems to convenient to me to be meaningless.

Sleeping Princess learns humanoid behavior from us. Back when she was still learning basic English grammar, when we weren't sure she recognized questions as questions, someone told her, "when I ask a question, I use this symbol (?)" That apparently had two effects. First, it had the SP using (?), parentheses and all, with every question until she realized that wasn't truly normal usage after all. Second, she now uses explanatory statements like those when she uses a funky symbol, such as an emoticon, for the first time.

Blame me. It's all my fault

Quote:
someone told her

that would be me. It may seem trivial now, but it was the first time we realized that she was trying to talk to us. She had emailed what appeared to be random nonsense in what vpisteve called the "strange email."

Drizjr managed to deduce--although not everyone agreed-- that she had taken the email messages sent to Aunt Margaret's hotmail account, copied text from them and arranged the words to give us an urgent message. I made my own translation of what the strange email meant.

To me, solving that message, composing a message to her and having her respond to us was the best moment of the pre-game.

Just so you know, I used the parenthesis to set apart the question mark. I didn't know if she could understand non-alphanumeric symbols. My intention was to set off the question mark as a pair of double quotation marks are used to set off a word. I didn't use quotes because I didn't want to confuse her.

I confused her anyway.

She ended up adopting the whole symbol, (?), which actually worked to our benefit in identifying her as the author of hidden text snippets that appeared later in the pre-game.

And now she uses it when she give us a symbol, I think it's cute and funny- she is teasing us a little when she does that.

I can't take credit for that, rose. Smile

Yeah, there's a theory that Jan is the Sleeping Princess. There are actually two different theories that would allow for this; first, Jan's mind somehow winds up trapped as an AI, and second, Jan grows up to be Dr. Halsey, whose brain may have been copied into AI form to create Melissa--and SP is a fragment of Melissa, possibly her clever and mischeivous side, which would be strongly reminiscent of a younger Dr. Halsey.

And that discussion is taking place here. (So as not to derail this thread.)
