Just like right now, US immigration takes place in the US, when you arrive.

Not to mention, that everything else in the story points to these events taking place on earth. Including, Sophia saying she never wants to go back home where her mom is.

Where are you guys coming up with this stuff? It doesn't say he works for earth immigration. He helps people through earth immigration. Big difference. The story mentions earth and we can presume Adien is on earth when he is cheating on Sophia, but there is nothing that places Sophia. I don't know where you are headed with the earth immigration doesn't exist on every colony. I wasn't saying that. If you are on Coral and need to get into Earth you would find somebody on Coral to get a counterfeit visa to get into Earth. Not get to Earth and then try to get a visa or find somebody to help you get through immigration. Or leaving Earth you would get "visas and whatever" to get through immigration to leave. Thats all I'm saying. You guys have it your way, but if I need to get out of the states and into a country I'm not suppose to be in, I'm going to find someone in the business of blackmarket "visas and whatever" in the states, not once I get to wherever I'm trying to get to. Again where do you connect Sophia not wanting to go back home as a evidence she is on earth? If you had a clip of me saying to someone I saw the Eagle land on Tranquility Base you are going to say I was on the moon? Ok, let's drop this whole tuna thing.

Good catch. I interpreted it as he worked for Earth Immigration, but you're right, it doesn't specifically say that.

And I agree, you wouldn't wait to get to earth, but you might find someone he would get in contact with Aiden (if aiden is on earth as i believe) so he can help from that side.

Also, I'm just saying that durring the clip, Sophia is on earth and likely lives there. She could be on a completely different planet, but there's no reason to think that. I'm sure if it's important, it will be clarified.

Good call on the not working for Earth though. I did miss that.

Brian

I know how many of you guys hate the Bungie tie-ins, but about a month or so ago Bungie had a can of tuna in the fore of one of it's webcam images with a note asking what the tuna means. Looks like they may have had these conversations planned then, or both the webcam and the conversation are pulling of a mention of the elevated cost of tuna which will appear in Halo 2.

Speed of light issues

I think there's a general consensus that the scene with Aiden and Selene takes place on earth. If this is the case then Kamal and Sophia would have to be on earth then. The "ghost" he runs is returning data in real time. Nowhere in halo is there any mention of instantaneous transmissions across planets. Even travelling through slipspace takes a fair amount of time.

Lets not forget that tuna was also mentioned in the Jersey/Durga storyline as well. Farm tuna salad for her, meat of the day in red sauce for him I think it says. I don't know about you all, but meat of the day in red sauce does not sound that expensive to me:). Maybe it is non-farm tuna that is expensive? Or once again it is off world.

Lets not forget that people like to name things from where they come from. How many citys are called New something, and why is every major city(some minor ones too) in europe have a city named after it in at least 2 states. I know this is spec but it could be Atlanta or Buffalo(yes she does say New York I know) on another world. I am probally wrong but it was worth a go.

Anyway the Tuna is probally not that important:) The PM's are probally laughing at our posts about something that was meant to be funny, and we think the tuna will lead us to the Holy grail:)

Idunno, I kinda like the SPEC that was posted a while back, that "Selene" (who we know next to nothing about) and "Aiden" (who we already know likes to hide elements of his private life from women) are actually Jersey's mother and her secret contact, "Simon Brown" (which, to give mad props to Durga, may be his real name.) The tuna would serve as a tie-in supporting this. Was that ever disproven?

I don't think anybody has said it out loud yet. (Though I could just have missed that post.) But that has been something nagging at the back of my mind since having heard both files.

I think you're onto something with this.

If you're willing to change the names, it certainly is possible that OMG! Aiden is doing Jersey's MOM! I don't see anything that disproves it as a possibility.

The webcam image mentioned above is archived, here's a link for the curious: http://www.tru7h.co.uk/blam.php?file=site/webcam&action=archive&camera=3&page=3

Kamal and Sophia could be on Earth, or another colony. If on Earth they can't afford tuna, and Aiden is probably "sooo Earth" because of an affectation that Earthers do it better than colonists, or something, and our two are more "cosmos-politan".

Note - would Jersey's mom have to be on Earth, or is tuna an Earth export as well?

Urp

I think the evidence for Earth being the location of our 3 main story threads is overwhelming. Too many cities are named and the fact that Aiden gets people through Earth immigration are some of the most obvious.

This has been pointed out thoroughly elsewhere...though the threads escape me at the moment.

Earth's seas could easily be fished out, or all wildlife could be so threatened that farming is highly regulated enough to cause prices to skyrocket. It's pretty common for fresh meat to become a luxury for the rich when times get rough.

Gotta love that consumer culture...

edit- EdifyYo, I think they're saying immigrate, which means they're coming to Earth. Besides, if they were on Coral, why would Sophia say she's never going back? And if not Coral, where?

chaotic_mind: EGAD! You're probably right - upon re-thinking it, it does make sense that they are on Earth; my first thought was that they were on another planet (not Coral, but also not Earth), but the fact that Soph's boyfriend is apparently on the same planet with her, and that he is roaming the continental USA, seems to blow that out of the water. Smile Also, Kamal's "He's so... 'Earth'" comment threw me off: since he's from Coral, saying something is "earth" in a derogatory way makes sense, but him BEING on Earth makes it kind of... I dunno, WEIRD, since EVERYTHING on Earth would be "earth". Smile

City Slickers

Well it makes sense if you equate it with the way large cities and country towns relate to one another.

Think of Earth as being similar to LA, while Coral would be some place in Alaska. The good "salt of the earth" folks would see the city people as being silly, trendy, and "high-fullootin" (sp?), while the city people see the towns as backwards and inbred.

I travel between those two worlds quite a bit, and both prejudices are rampant.

Yep, it must be that Kamal and Sophia are both from Coral ("I'm never going back."), now living on Earth, maybe America, but their moms "42 light years away" on Coral would prefer they date each other rather than native Earth people like Aiden. (Because of prejudices like Ouruboros mentions.)

Side notes: yes, tuna could become very expensive due to overfishing, like cod. Cheaper algae-based food like Soylent Green or tuna-flavored tofu would be what you eat when you're not on expensive dates.
(Edit: Pigeon - it's what's for dinner.)

Also I'm sure you could visit Earth as a tourist, or even get a working visa, but when your visa expires you'll have to leave. Unless you pay Aiden to "modify" your records. That's how you could get through Earth Immigration - as a tourist - but still need Aiden's help to stay.
