In Project Zeit, I have the players choose between protecting the timeline by aiding some unsavoury characters, or causing a paradox that would destroy the whole universe by helping out the Communists kill Hitler.

Players, naturally, chosen the second path.

The results were...interesting...

This doesn't exactly count as changing the story, but I am currently a candidate in the election in the 2012 ARG and I'm working on creating my own branch to the story.

When I became a candidate I decided to start my own campaign story on Facebook and Twitter. As candidate I am touring the country and holding rallies, etc. I have a few small story ideas planned for the next month while the campaign runs. I don't know if something like that has been attempted before... probably, but not something you see too often. I imagine it requires the right opportunity to come along. It would be intersting to see an ARG encourage more story telling from the participants, and then somehow weave that into the main storyline.
