[Email] UrbanMythology - Re: Haunted Hotel

Here's the email I just got from Amanda. I'm pretty sure we need to spend more time searching.

Dear XXXXX,

Hmmm, that's strange. I'd ask the contributor but unfortunately it was an
anonymous tip. They did say that the other hotel might have a website and
that it had a similar name as Goldfield. Other than that, and the gold mine
thing, I'm afraid I don't have much more to go on.

Sincerely,
Amanda Graves

There's a nearby town called Gemfield, but I can't find a Gemfield Hotel. Sad

Edit: It looks like the Goldfield hotel was built by George Winfield. Winfield sounds a bit like Goldfield too.

I looked at Gold Hill, but it's no where near Goldfield. It couldn't be built over the same mine.

It looks like grumpyboy was right. Damn red herring!!

They have a mailing list to sign up for, and all signs point to "in-game".

So, I signed up for the mailing list, and attached this comment to the request:

Quote:
I have heard rumours that a hotel in this area was once haunted. As someone who is interested in staying at haunted hotels, I am looking for more information on haunted hotels in the area. Any help would be appreciated, and when next I visit Nevada I would be sure to stay at the Gold Mine Hotel.

From the homepage...
Quote:
When the gold disappeared, so did the town's inhabitants; Gold Hill became a ghost town. It's just recently that gold has been found again, luring people back to the area, and some say, luring the ghosts out of hiding!

For a site that otherise makes no mention of ghosts, to have two mentions on the front page sticks out a littl, no? Wink

The other thing I noticed is that when they talk about themselfs (such as on the 'Managment' page. They talk about it as a 'guest house' and talk about roasting matshmallows with the guests. And yet the pictures that are shown of the hotel are all of a hoyty-toyty, 5 star, New York style hotel.

If it is not part of this game, it must be part of something becuase it doesn't rign true.

I started a thread for discussing the GoldMine Hotel and the website here.

We can keep this thread going for any emails to and from Tara or other "staff".

Nice find gb! I googled for two days looking for a town that had two hotels with similar names. I should have known I was looking for a fake hotel. Very Happy

Just checked my email, got one from Amanda. I wrote her about the Heathman Hotel. I had a friend that worked there a couple of years ago, who told me about the hauntings. In my mail I suggested it was possible that some of the old shanghai tunnels that run under the city could be responsible for infrasound.

She thanked me for my email, but this line in particular is a little curious:

Quote:
Braver souls than I would have to investigate that one, I'm
afraid. Like a wise girl once said, "if I ever go looking for my heart's
desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard, because if it
isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."

Did Amanda go looking for something and what did she find?

For what it's worth, the wise girl in question is Dorothy, who says this to Glinda the Good Witch near the end of "The Wizard of Oz." (Although it is interesting to speculate that Amanda may have reason to feel the same way based on events in her own life...)
