Well, #3 is the first one I couldn't solve with a quick googling. Thank goodness for Wikipedia and UF, eh? Smile

Just checking in over here to say that I'm well hooked! Anything Walt Whitman = love from me.

rebel, I merged your one post thread with this main thread, since I think that's what you intended Smile - krystyn

I live a little under 3 hours away from Charleston, I could make a run for it if no one else has spoken up thus far...

I'm going to Charleston around 2pm tomorrow and hopefully getting the clue.

Also. The recording sounds like he says "A traitor comes first" a couple other players and myself have discussed the relevance of the man in the hat saying the book was the key. There is a book cypher that was invented and used by Benedict Arnold which you can find here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Cipher

We are wondering if this might have some relevance to the whole thing.

Kyleohio, I think it has a HUGE part in this. I have a feeling the test for the 100 finalists might include this cypher. Additionally, GO has been tweeting various passages, I think they may play a role in this thing as well.

FYI, I've now set up a wiki to help track the game at http://goforth.wikibruce.com
Laura Hall's been doing some populating so far, so it's open for additional help.
Go IV it! Smile

Charleston

The second I heard the mention of the campus my mind jumped to there. I think anyone who has been there would agree.

Is this the confirmed answer?

Do we need to enter a specific park?

Yes the answer is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"College of Charleston"

After entering that you will see a message saying:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Light a Candle in Remembrance of the S.S. Central America @ College Way & Green Way" This has to be done on 10/14 at 11:11pm

hope that helps

Hey all, I heard from a little birdie that there may be something happening in New Orleans with this game.

I live in NOLA & if you need a drop/meet/whatever I can help out.

I have to wait till Friday to catch up on it all, but let me know.

Here's what I can read of the letter and code, the question marks are for the words I can't quite make out.

Quote:
Mysterious campfire on the shore, and then another, later peering at one through the trees.

As seen from the sea, they seem like beacons warning not against ? or hazard but rather signaling a secret kinship ? though I know nothing of those who gather at these fires or their circumstances I confess their lights give me some strange measure of comfort.

I do not understand at this early stage what my leaving is about. I recognize that it may well be a kind of young man's fancy. It feels as if a spell has been cast over me, and I operate as another with whom I am barely acquainted. And then fear strikes, and a sharp pang of loss, and the aching- when will I see again those I leave behind?

But the fear subsides, as it has before, and in this air and openness, I am again content, and that contentment is a enough for me. It feels suddenly odd even to write words like they have no place in this night. Enough then.

The guys at the goforth website have it decoded to
"The crescent waxes, shepherd to where I lay my burden down. Then a last skirmish to this obdurate earth, our contest a three foot draw.
From the riven rock a measure nine times that, my course yet clandestine."

That's using a book cipher with Leaves of Grass, using page #, line # (ignoring the titles), word #.
I used google books to check the first line.

I actually just found the "correct" version of the book in a good format online
http://www.archive.org/stream/grassleavesof00whitrich#page/n1/mode/2up
that translation looks ok to me
