And who is the only smuggler/black market type we know? Presuming that the PMs are not building a 'cast of thousands' this could be a tie-in to Aiden.

Yep, that's what I was hinting at. Now for some [REALLY WILD SPEC], the young man is Aiden.

To the 'old man' act. [WILDSPEC] What if this is some time later, and the 'old man' is indeed Jan's father/handler and Janet is Jan. The world is falling apart and the Covenant (or whoever) are closing in and taking out colonies. He is concerned about Jan's welfare (she is older now and no longer needs a handler) and wants to track her down. Working outside the system he can not just pop into the system leaving trails so he pulls the 'old man' act to get info on her. As this is going on he and his SSF unit are tracking all 'cable' activity of space related events and his call is interrupted by the arrival of some unknown (until now) ship.

i can see it. then maybe the family info the MP's were taking was how to find Jan? or maybe They took Jan, period.

In one of the books it tells you that the Autumn is how the covenant found Earth. They sent some undetectable tracker/data miner in one of the spartans first missions and it stuck to the hull and recorded everywhere the ship was going and had gone, including Earth.

The ship in question isn't the Pillar Of Autumn. I don't have Fall Of Reach here to reference, but the best shipyards are on Reach, and this is where the PoA was retrofitted to be the insanely powered ship that it became. It had been retired for a bit before that, so by the time the Cov would have got the beacon on it (if the PoA was the ship that they attached it to), it never would've gone to Earth - just outside of Reach and then Halo and then that's it for PoA.

My reaction was that when the "customer service" person says she will send this up the ladder, she sent the recording of the call, and we are listening to someone up the ladder listen to the complaint, complete with pause (sound) when he is interrupted.

I really like the idea that the reciept is really a discuise for importaint info to be moved up the ranked without any suspicion.

I also think that all of these are saved audio clips from melissa... so these probably happened in the past.

Not sure if this is trout, but during receipt.wav, when the CrotchetyOldMan says

And yet here I am, three months later, and no sign of my papers. No sign at all!

you can clearly and crisply hear the sound of papers being thrown down. More evidence that the POV for the scene is from the Old Man's office, and not a recording?

This is REALLY bugging me.

The Trojan war was started, when King Menelaus's wife was kidnapped. Menelaus was the SPARTAN king.

Could this be some sort of clue??

*waits for the harsh sting of a trout across the face*

Yeah! And Ulysses was part of the Greek army that stormed Troy and who later got lost and ended up on an island with (apo)Calypso!
So if we find out later that the Apocolypso has been lost for years and years and is full of pigs with space lotus on their breath we'll have had this thing solved!
Yup. Too many puzzles. Mah brain is mush.

Ulysses, aka Odysseus.

Yeah, I like this idea. The references to Odysseus is the Operator's Monologue's and memories. A battle at Troy. It seems to fit.

Perhaps this gives us some hints on what happened to the Operator? Maybe Melissa is Odysseus in this story? Getting lost on her way home from the battle of Troy. Somehow she ends up here (on the ilovebees server).

Think there's an angle for a Trojan horse (virus)? Maybe some of the other Odyssey or Illiad characters?

you're right, my bad, the PoA gave the coordinates to reach because of the thing attached to it's hull.

We know Melissa will go to great lengths to protect her crew. What if some of her crew was on Troy? I know it's a stretch, so don't explain how tenuous it is, unless you can blow it out of the water... I'm more or less trying to foster thought about it more than stating it as fact...

We know, from the Operator's Monologue, that Captain Greene has family on Troy. Does that count?

Edit to fix link to new Wiki!

I think the PMs are using "Jesus" as a family-friendly swear word. Y'know, in place of stuff like [preemptively self-censored], [preemptively self-censored], and [preemptively self-censored]ing [preemptively self-censored]monkey.

From a purely META standpoint: The PMs have plenty of characters, and probably plenty of actors as well, but probably not that many writers -- perhaps one or two at the most. The use of "Jesus" as the oath-of-choice may be simply because the same person has written all of these scenes. Dunno

Just to clarify, the ship was the Iroquois (Keyes' first command), not the Pillar of Autumn, that gave away Reach.

troy axon, transcript

Transcript of the "troy" axon (1319PDT Aug27, Buena Park CA)
==
Man: Yeah right, marines.
Woman: (interference) Where and when did this take place?
Man: What? I can't here a damn thing, first thing I do after this I'm going to call the CPA and complain about the sound quality today: first all the bands go out, now I can hardly here a word you're saying.
Woman: I'm sure the Chatter Protocol Authority would be happy to hear from you, Sir.
Man: Damn right they would, I pay my taxes, which are outrageous, let me tell you. Last year I had this little place in Hellespont.
Woman: Troy, Sir?
Man: What? Yeah, Troy.
Woman: So, these navy personnel.
Man: Marines.
Woman: This marine incursion into your study occurred on Troy, Sir?
Man: Yeah, that's what I was just telling you!
==

Notes:
-Same voices as the later audiofiles, "receipt" and "goodbye", as well as similar background music. (background music not affected by the interference). Definitely the immediate precursor to those clips.
-Historical Troy (Ilium) is located on a hill called Hissarlik in northwestern Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), about 5km from the Hellespont, the channel that seperates Europe and Asia Minor :: Are we to take this as indication that there was a similar location on the (colony) Troy?
