new message on the phone from... dun dun dun!... the telephone company! evidently Mark's check bounced on the bill payment. 58 bucks? in 1970's money? i wonder what that is in today's money. i wonder what Mark's gonna do for money?

edit:

http://www.coinnews.net/tools/cpi-inflation-calculator/
that website says that $58.26 in 1968 comes out to $361.34 adjusted to 2009

ouch that's quite a phone bill.

Not surprising that Mark has such a large phone bill. He probably hasn't been working while conducting his investigation.

Also they're probably using the same voice actors so that's why alot of people sound a like.

I've spent the past few days ironing out a few things concerning James M Oakes, the 5x5 puzzle and the exact dates Lutwidge was in Rapture.

Imo, looking at the image portrayed by Atlas I would say Jmo has had something to do with Atlas, but in what context is unclear. My guess, is Fontaine started the Atlas myth rolling (i.e groundwork) prior to faking his death allowing to more or less immediately assume the roll without raising too many questions. This due to the short space of time (few months) between Fontaine's fake death and the New Years raid. Therefore, I believe Jmo played some part in the groundwork.

Going over Lutwidge's notes and the files, he was in Rapture just after the 58/59 New Years party and left in Aug 60 or just prior to. Due to the first post Rapture date being his photo, Unless I have missed a date. I believe Lutwidge was involved in or played a part in something big during his time there. He obviously knew about Jack, due to him knowing the significance of Jacks flight crashing "Apollo crashed into the sea" etc. Also meaning he was out of Rapture before Jack went in.

As far as Lutwidge's Blue Book goes.. I have seen a few people on other forums say that this is to do with things after he got out of Rapture. As far as I can tell.. The Blue book only refers to events whilst Lutwidge was in Rapture.

In ref to voice's.. I think the same actors are being used.. if Dash Carmady isn't the same guy that voiced Paech Wilkins I'll eat my hat. I have been thinking over this. My guess over those who are in touch with Mark. I think that one of them kept an eye on Jack whilst he was on the surface, I mean, Fontaine would surely want someone to ensure no one was snooping around Jack etc. That is the most logical explanation to me anyway, as it allows for someone to know a lot about Rapture than they are saying to Mark, without knocking any of the events in Bioshock one out of sync.

As far as the 5x5 goes... I believe the answer is something to do with Light house's.. I mean, its lights will lead you through the wreckage (Bioshock 1 start), Lutwidge also talks about (in his notes) the Golden Eye in the sea of wreckage that leads to Rapture. Additionally a knights tour, is a mathematical method of moving a Knight Chess piece all round the board using every square once, but Maths isn't my strongest point.

I believe the answer to the 5x5 is something to do with Lighthouse's, turned into a Knights tour on the 5x5 board. As for the number sequencing for the board, I think that these are worked out from numbers or letters on Jmo's Naval identity card.

So, if no one has noticed yet, on the recording of the James Millard Oakes league meeting, the speaker's name is Clint CHESSman

Update. There is a film container on the table to the right and a note written by mark on the floor. Apparently someone has been to Lutwidge's basement and also in marks apartment. The drawers by the door is the only thing that I really see moved but I am not positive. Mark has already marked some people off the list of suspects. There are also to new new letters on the wall.

So, the more I look at everything, the more I'm convinced that the 5x5 puzzle is a math problem... Here's my reasoning:

1) Lutwidge uses the term knight to replace sailor.
a. Oakes, the white knight, is a sailor, able to "cross the board" aka the ocean.
b. Inman is the pawn, as he is the only other character entrenched in this ordeal who is in the navy, yet he hasn't ever discovered Rapture, so he has "crossed the board but never divined the secret."

2) The 5x5 grid represents the ocean, and I'm almost positive the answer we need has something to do either with Rapture's longitude and latitude, or the coordinates of a point representing Rapture on a coordinate plane.
a. Many circle-squarers believed the problem of "squaring the circle" was directly related to the longitude problem (there was no accurate way of finding one's longitude at sea, so a prize was created for anyone who could find an accurate way of finding the longitude) though it is not clear how the two are related (according to wikipedia)
b. The subtitle of Lutwidge's diary is very similar to that of a book about the man who solved the longitude problem, John Harrison (The subtitles being "the testimony of one old loon who ran the red queen's race" as opposed to "The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time")
c. In the diary, on the second page, a cutout from Alice in Wonderland has Alice wondering about her current latitude and longitude, and underneath "latitude", Lutwidge has written "wouldn't you like to know?"

If that made sense to you, let's move from facts to speculation:

1. Lutwidge's mention of finding the triangle within the triangle may refer to finding the city (cities of a certain population are represented on maps as different shapes, squares, circles, triangles, etc.) within the triangle (the frozen triangle). The coordinates of the frozen triangle were disclosed in the frozen triangle book, but during the shift when everything from that time period moved into a folder, something went wrong and the book will no longer turn to the page showing the coordinates. Luckily, I'd had them copied down, and they are 67N34W, 57N35W, and 63N20W.

2. Alternately, I believe the "sevenfold lock and threefold key" (or is it threefold lock and sevenfold key?) may either be the x and y coordinates of a point on a graph, or the two values for longitude and latitude (for example, the x coordinate might be 7 times a variable and the y coordinate three times the same variable). Using a little math, I found that the only point that fits this criteria and also exists inside the bounds of the frozen triangle is the point 63N27W (7x9N, 3x9W). Now I've tried entering this into the 5x5 grid using only knight moves, but it didn't work, so I think it's a little more complex than that. Then I thought, when you plot the longitude and latitude on a graph, you come up with a slightly slanted triangle with a base on the bottom and a point on the top (resembling the first triangle Lutwidge drew in his diary), but when you take the numbers used in the longitude and latitude and use them as x and y coordinates (for example, 67N34W becomes (67,34)), you get a triangle with a base on top and the point on the bottom(resembling the second one he drew). Now, if you've been able to stay with me so far, this is the part I need help with; if one were to take the Long/Lat triangle with the point 63N27W plotted in it, shrink it down so that it fit inside the X/Y coordinate triangle, and find the point on the x/y plane that overlaps the point 63N27W from the first triangle, those coordinates may be the ones needed to unlock the puzzle.

I really hope that made sense, I tried really hard to explain everything as clearly as possible. Let me know what you guys think!

To the right of the desk, next to the fan. See the attatched pic. If it's an old puzzle, I apologize.
