[INFO] Bungie.net update

I mentioned this in #beekeepers but dont think it made it over here yet.

Some of you may have noticed some problems on the forums lately. Well, we know about it, we have a good idea as to what is wrong, and when it will be fixed.

Apparently, the story starts with the Webmaster and some bees. I won't bore you with the details, but let's just say there is honey and tequila everywhere, and the database that houses the forums seems to have taken a beating. Corrupted caches, indexes, and something about a curse... according to the Webmaster, anyway. I wasn't really listening - he was rather drunk. At least we got a new letters page out of it. Or, well, we did after some well placed kicks...

Anyway, the point of this is that we're working on the issues, and we have a fix currently being tested. Since the fix is so substantial, though, we're going to be testing it over the weekend. We'll get it posted to the live forums by Tuesday of next week. There will probably be a short downtime early Tuesday morning.

Thank you for your patience. That is all.

Isnt Tuesdays usually an update day? Dosent "corrupte caches, indexes, and something about a curse" sound a little like the PF?

[META] wonder if this problem theyve had is also the reason for the slowdown in the game and this is their way of letting us know.

With the bee references I'd say it's more than coincidence...would be nice if something had spread off ILB 'cos that'd mean I was right about the spiral staircases being TPE Very Happy

Good spot! *waits for Tuesday*

You might also be interested in this, from the new Bungie.net Letters to the Webmaster page.

Now, 62% of readers are curious about ilovebees.com, but as the gorilla-suit-wearing Webmaster of Bungie.net, I genuinely don't know anything more about it. So I can't answer questions in that field.

thing is though, if Bungie or Microsoft, or whoever is reponsible for this lets on, the whole game would be ruined.
It's accepted that it's not real, but the way it's being run does give it a sense of not being entirely ficiton either, if you get me. It's like a lecturer said to me, as soon as you see the system by which something works, the mystery's gone.
If Bungie say they're responsible, hardly anyone will play anymore, and they'll either go hassle them for answers, or just wait for the end of the story. like this, there's a feeling that we're playing the game, and things won't happen unless we make them happen.
There won't be any Bungie leads unless they mean to give something away.

Just typical Bungie humour. Laughing

I think the news post means that their forums/server is being overloaded by people looking for info on ILB. Just a creative way of saying it.

Given the past dicussion on both this board and others, I thought this other Webmaster answer was funny, too. It's from someone in Victoria volunteering to be a beta tester:

Dear Anthony,

There will never be any open beta tests, although it might tickle you to know that people are playing in Victoria right this minute ? full time Microsoft employees, that is. The Halo 2 forums are still running.
