I'd definitely get behind that angle as well. It definitely fits with the idea that it starts as a prank and then "something" goes wrong. I'd say invoking the real SM would be a bad thing.


I disagree with this theory.
In Entry 2, Alex says he "saw this really tall guy standing in the middle of the street, just completely still". Obviously, he didn't know who or what SM was at this point, so if this theory were true, Entry 2 would have to take place before the real SM was invoked and began showing up. But Alex says that "this really set off Rocky, and... he got really scared." Dogs freaking out like that is usually associated with the paranormal/inhuman, and I believe it was mentioned to stress that whatever SM is, he isn't human.

 		I think the theory of this all turning out to be a prank on Alex would be a HUGE letdown.

I agree with you. As I noted in the next paragraph of the quoted post:

When Alex started filming Marble Hornets, no one had enough motive to perform such an elaborate hoax. And, like you pointed out, his first few encounters with SM were supernatural. However, it doesn't rule out the possibility that someone else started tormenting Alex in the middle of MH.

While I actually am in agreement that it is paranormal and that the dog flipping out is a good indication of such a thing. It also doesn't rule out being a gaslight situation.

I can get into a suit, and stand still in the middle of a street. Sure its absurdly dangerous to do such a thing but there's nothing paranormal about that action in and of itself. The dog barking while odd, is also nothing odd. I've walked passed houses and had the dogs inside go absolutely batshit over it. Not to mention that if the owner is un-nerved he could easily pass that 'vibe' to the dog. We also don't know what kind of dog Rocky is. He could be a tiny little thing afraid of shadows or the meanest toughest Rottweiler on the block. Depending on the type of dog the statement that his dog went crazy over SM holds different amounts of water.

As for when a prank or gaslighting would begin, we can't assume it's his cohorts in Marble Hornets doing it. Perhaps someone in Alex's outside life was doing it, perhaps TTA for reasons unknown to us?

But again, for the record I'm in the camp that what is happening is of paranormal nature.

 		What happened to Slenderman being a paranormal figure that was stalking Alex. Then Alex's mental state became aggressive as one's mind would be from paranoia. No hoax. No figures. Just a professional looking paranormal entity stalking Alex. Alex gave J the tapes, Alex tells him to burn em, and Alex left the area. J is trying to figure out what was going on with Slenderman by asking ex-cast members of Marble Hornets and investigating on the way. All the while J is either getting stalked by the slenderman or just a character named totheark... which is unraveling as the weeks\months go on.

Most of our work now is trying to figure out some of the gaps in the story. We're answering questions that rise from watching the entries. I made a short list of these questions that have developed from the original premise (which was excellently summarized by madebz):
Why is a paranormal entity stalking Alex? Why Alex? Why stalking? In what way is the entity paranormal? What is Alex's relationship with the entity, and did it change over time? What emotions does Alex feel toward the entity - fear, anger, hatred, obsession, love? What was the involvement of the other members of Marble Hornets in all this - were they dragged into it, or involved from the start? How do we explain some of the unlikely footage shown in the entries? Why is totheark bothering J over YouTube? Who is totheark, and what is his connection to Alex's story? What do totheark's cryptic messages mean?

The entries are vague enough that a whole variety of theories can be derived by answering these questions. So long as the theories are only slightly tangential to the original story and aren't contradicted by J's or totheark's posts, they seem reasonable to me.

You know...I ask myself the same question. It seems that all these far fetched theories and half explanations have almost obliterated the basic storyline.

why[OG]- makes a good story/why[IG]- the entry where slender man's being filmed by the MH crew, most likely/how paranormal- not gonna be explained/relationship- being stalked/enotions- fear, most likely, might change/others were involved in as much as alex changed around them, SM left them pretty much alone/what unlikely footage?/TTA- noone knows, yet

that's pretty much how it's gonna play out...
as far as i can predict[good record for predictions though]
EDIT: bout what gordon said if'n ye ask me, the story has moved on from alex's "backstory" and is now more active investigation into where they are now...
plus side, more puzzles, or at least, more opportunities for them, bad side: less coolio entries of alex being stalked :/

AT this point, I hope the ARG (OMG I CALLED IT AN ARG!) picks up. The backstory was a nice intro, and now we can actually progress in the ARG ( WOAH I DID IT AGAIN)

 		I'm thinking SM is paranormal and was stalking Alex for an unknown to us reason. You have to remember that the entries are not in order as the to actual events.

At first I think Alex is interested in who the man is (entry 2) maybe starts looking for him like in the park. SM then starts to follow Alex and finds his house (entry 1) leading onto the other encounters at his house.

Which also occurs while he is filming example entry 7 when Alex is clearly disturbed by SM's presence.

We can see why Alex would have moved away but one thing to me is why Alex gave the tapes to J, he told J to burn them but really who would? you would want to look at them. Maybe J having the tapes and being aware of SM will lead him to being stalked also and in doing so Alex may have released himself from SM.

Just a theory, we will have to wait and see how it all pans out.
