Is anyone going to the Chicago drop tonight?

^ I wish I could! Chicago is one of the few "ARG Hotspots" that I can actually get to somewhat easily (just a 3-4 hour drive), but I have marching band. Sad

I'm a bit closer than that, but since it's during rush hour it would probably take me almost that long! Wink

Yeah, I'd love to, but starting at 5 is a little inconvenient for those of us who are working and would have to get into the city first. I'd barely make it in by 8. Sad

Varin, I think at least four people from the discussion board have said that they plan to go, each bringing a guest makes eight. There's speculation that there's dancing involved, so even if you're not the first to arrive and get the clue item, it might still be fun. (In my romantic imagination, I envision some turn of the century waltz in a grand ballroom... but that's just me. Smile )
GameTeam (the PMs) have posted this update about tonight's event:
Quote:
GameTeam 10/21/09 AT 10:03 AM

GameTeam here! We have a tiny UPDATE FOR ANYONE GOING TO THE PALMER HOUSE HOTEL TONIGHT. Smile SKIP THE FRONT DESK AND GIVE YOUR G.O. IV NOTE TO THE CONCIERGE DESK INSTEAD. GO IV!

There's also a sort of player generated side project to capture a picture of "the man in the hat"; the gentleman in the fedora who gives out the clue items, that might be a fun thing to do too.

-------
As for our wild guesses about the underlined letters on the washboard... I agree with you, enaxor! So "clever for our own good" .... heh.

GameTeam also posted this gentle reminder last night to KISS and what to focus on:
Quote:
GameTeam 10/20/09 AT 8:01 PM

GameTeam here! Just jumping on tonight to remind everyone to "keep it simple". Watch the Video. Listen to and KNOW Grayson's Story. Examine and REMEMBER the Clues and Objects. Learn and Understand the Cipher Puzzles. GO IV and have FUN!

Btw, Rosemarie_Weissenfeld, congratulations on a job well done in New Orleans! I was wondering if you can please clarify if the letters are actually underlined on the washboard that you have. Thanks!

They are actually underlined onmy board as well, which is not surprising, my mom pointed it out to me when i showed her after getting back from the drop. They kida have likea line cut under them, or grooved into the wood i guess would be a better term.

Thanks, Rosemarie_Weissenfeld! Would you mind confirming which letters are underscored?

Btw, is there a chat room set up for this campaign?

No chat, I think someone is gonna set up a tinychat for tonight, and the letters that are underlined are "ASI RCAGES"

I've been sitting in #goforth on chat-solutions. I didn't register it, but Varin joined me there today. Very Happy

The package was retrieved from the Palmer House Hotelin Chicago earlier this evening. It included, a flask, suspenders, belt, a book(Harpers Family Library Series - "The Lives of Celebrated Travellers"), a letter, and on the back of the letter a bacon ciper. The cipher was decoded to read...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I left the road and journey'd far past trace of human hand. The waning sun across that great and ancient ocean of stone cast my attitude, dancing tall before me, a second self."

*edited to correct the book title

Was that #5 or #6? If it was #5... well, #6 is up. Smile

I was reviewing the intro movie and noticed some words written on the toolbox (0:17-0:19). I tweaked the screen shot to enhance readability. Probably meaningless, but worth highlighting.

Did we ever figure out if this was of any significance?

This rock formation strikes me as a significant landmark in the intro video. You note that the scene directly before this one, the three people are looking through a range finding/surveying device on a tripod close to sunset, and one is pointing off into the distance. The very next scene is of the particular rock formation in broad daylight, then it cuts back to them walking as the sun sets. To me it seems as if this was intentional.

Peeps in the Go Forth discussion board, determined it said something like "A traitor comes first". They believe it was telling us to use the Arnold Cipher with the Walt Whitman's 1882 edition of "Leaves of Grass". This method was used to solve the first cipher received in Charleston.
