[TRIVIA]42

I've noticed the number "42" several times in ILB. The most obvious one is the "Dates arranged from 42 lightyears away". Also, a GPS location starts with 42.

42= The Answer to Life, The Universe, And Everything (Read: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams). Just thought that was interesting...

A few quick notes :

The continental US spans (I think... working off of unreliable memory here) latitudes from 28 degrees to 54 degrees. It stands to reason that one of 210 axons would land in the 42nd degree. So it was likely not chosen for the number '42'.

Once the GPS coordinate is removed, you list only one instance of the number '42' happening. That's not really anything to go on.

Now, it may be that the number 42 will become significant in the future, maybe because of Hitchhiker's Guide, maybe not. It would certainly fit into Bungie's sense of humor. But until we get many more sightings of the number 42, it has to be treated as either a coincidence or a throwaway reference.

Edit : Then again, that's probably why you labelled this thread [TRIVIA] and not [SPEC]. Sorry if you already understood this.

Besides 42 is divisible by 7. 7 * 6 = 42.

And if you are interested in the TRUe meaning of 42, since doug is dead, the answer may now be revealed.

Nope. Deep Thought did this:

1+5*8+1

But surely BODMAS would dictate that that is equal to

1+ ( 5*8 ) +1 = 42

and not

( 1+5 )*( 8+1 ) = 54

therefore disputing any idea that it could be 6*9

But we are getting way OT.... that's enough HitchHikers for now people.

I've seen the light.

2 and 3 are even and odd.
2 and 3 are 5.
Jan James is even and odd.

I hope they give us a new horse tomorrow because this one seems to have been beaten to death.

horses do not exist

horses have two legs in the rear

and fore legs in the front

that's six legs all together, which is a very odd number of legs for a mammal to have

but six is an even number

a number cannot be both odd and even... therefore, horses do not exist

now watch me disprove God by showing that black is white and white is black.............. if i don't get killed in the crosswalk

First, you start by stating some basic facts:
Girls = Time * Money

Everyone knows that Time is Money:
Girls = Money * Money
Girls = Money^2

And money is the root of all evil
Money = sqrt(Evil)
Girls = sqrt(Evil) * sqrt(Evil)

Girls = Evil

Hence, girls are evil. Math at its best.

Yes, that's right. That's why six times nine is forty-two. You just have to find the right method of calculation.
