I believe the last four were together, that's certainly how I found them anway, and I'm not positive but I think it was at a time when I had already visited the site, refreshed the page and they had popped up, though i could be wrong.

Sorry for the almost double post but if I get too far down in the text box I can't see what I am typing (and I need that).

Sorry if this was mentioned before but it's new to me and I read through the forum today and didn't see it. This was in the source on the home page:

Welcome, friends. Let us gather round and recount our tales.

Hello everyone,

have been lurking for a while and tried to catch up.
So here are my thoughts - Feel free to trout me :

I think the texts point to a somehow twisted person ( Sheogorath is referred to as the god of madness in morrowind ). Further the texts about his uncle or the one called weirdmovie describe persons with a second nature which they cannot control - a rather wild nature, and he´s afraid of turning it loose while sleeping.
Then others are about his body functions or at least related( the hairy ones, stomach, tan in a way, too ).
The recipe he added lately seems to be a galvanic experiment. From my ( mediocre ) knowledge of chemistry I´d say the mirrors used are blinded out - Maybe one turns white from AgCL and the other turns black from Ag2O, i´m not sure about that though. The point is, the mirrors get useless and he can no longer see himself.

I agree that Love.html rather tells a story about a pet than a woman held captive. This and the fact that he has mentioned moon phases in previous emails let´s me think that he´s afraid of becoming a werewolf.

Edit: I think breathing.html also hints to this. He won´t let his tongue touch the roof of his mouth - just like a dog or wolf.
Then in previous mails he tells us he´s gathering antibodies - Lycanthropy is considered a blood sickness. So maybe he tries to get in control of the disease as in mythology it is uncurable.

Far fetched - I know - but maybe a point worth thinking about.
As to the alt in tan.html: tanning is the lead cause of skincancer - whatever that means

Greets
Fnord

P.S. - Sorry if my grammar and spelling may be weird - i´m no native speaker Smile

I like this theory. The "pet" could be the wolf that bit him since being bit by a another werewolf is one way you can become one or just his wolf "girlfriend". Also and maybe this is the power of suggestion but the chest hair drawing looks like a wolf face to me. I also always thought it weird that he has HUMAN neck etc. on back hair.

Also just a small note: the code has been cleaned up on the home page and some of the links to the pages have moved. I think the three now on the bottom left were on the top right.

Edit: So this got me thinking about Morrowwind, in it you have the choice of becoming the "Poisoned Hero" and fulfilling the prophecy of the chosen one or taking the cure and becoming just an average joe hero. But I couldn't remember what the poison did. My memory was saying Vampire but I did a little research to find out for sure and yes it was vampire however I found this while searching:

Main article: The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon
The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon, announced on February 14, 2003, and scheduled for release in May of the same year,[109] went gold by May 23,[110] and was released on June 6.[111] Bethesda began work on the expansion immediately following the release of Tribunal in November

One of the key selling points of Bloodmoon was its reintegration of werewolves; a feature that had been included in Daggerfall, but absent in Morrowind;[116] a feature prominently advertised in previews prior to the game's release,[112][109] in contrast to Morrowind's vampirism, which was almost an "Easter Egg" in terms of how many players remained unfamiliar with the feature.[117] Players become werewolves by catching the lycanthropic disease "Sanies Lupinus" and leaving it be for three days without attempting to cure it. Once the disease has been fully integrated, the player transforms every night, regardless of the lunar cycle.[118] Being a werewolf provides ability increases, though their strength was reduced relative to the major bonuses offered by lycanthropy in Daggerfall.[116] Some reviewers found the addition a welcome challenge,[118][117][119] but others thought the addition frustrating and poorly implemented

It seems to fortfy Fnord's theory. Nice!

I guess now we need to find out how Carl comes into this (these) theory(s). Honestly, I have no idea, but I figured I'd pose the question.

Well if the lycanthropic speculation is correct maybe he's tailing his next victim. They are neighbours so could be an opportunity stalking?

yeah, I have to agree. it seems really conclusive because of the name of th site.. ad with the circulting evidence regarding morrowind, etc. but I'd like to keep looking for more connectons for more potential matches and proof before I get set on the idea.

Sorry for spelling errors, im posting from my mobile device and sometimes te keys don't get pressed properly when I'm in a hurry.

Aside from that, I like the feeling that we are zoning in on a possible purpose for the whole site, so don't let up. : ) I will ask a friend about lycanthropy in the elder scrolls etc. since they play twenty times more often than myself.

Hmm, I just brought up this Lycanthropy-thing because I was starting to move in circles ( and tired of altering brightness and contrast on every doc for hours Smile ) thus concentrating on the story itself.

I used to play Morrowind for many months and I think I have a savegame prior to the werewolf-quests in bloodmoon. Maybe I shall pay it a visit again. From what I remember there is no cure this time ( like for vampirism in the original ) - When turned into the wolf, you have to solve some quests for the Wolf-god Hircine. In the end you get a ring that can control your transformation into a wolf.

But there are points against this idea:

If hatshoe stayed close to the lycanthropy as given in morrowind, he would have nightmares. These apparently are missing.
Classical Werewolves as described in literature show the symptoms of rabis, i.e. great thirst but fear of water at the same time.

Werewolves ( in their human form ) seem to change in personality too, sudden aggression without cause and strongly increased sense of smelling and hearing for example . I recall a movie with Jack Nicholson for that matter.

Aside from this there are still certain points puzzling me:
- The capital letters in Bakingsoda
- The offenders ( names ? numbers ? ) - The only names given here: Sandra Jennings, Carl Rivers, Peter, the dead roommate, the names of X-Com soldiers and characters of "Outlander"
- The scratched-out words in some of the docs - Why not writing it anew and then load up a flawless scan ? Maybe clues in these "mistakes"
- The dead roommate - How can it be that one doesn´t notice his roommate is dead until told in a store ?
- The reptilian in a chair - I really don´t know where to put that one.

Hmm - maybe these are herrings altogether
Well - guess I have to wait for the reply from hatshoe...

I agree with all above that we should keep the werewolf thing as a working theory but stay open to other ideas. Since in Hatshoe's words, "to find the source of it all is most important."

A couple of things that I would add to Fnord's list of puzzlers:
There are only 3 pages in the source code that start with capital letters which seems 'unusual'.

The code within a code comment

The killing of 3 postal workers in Minnesota. I don't think of a postal worker working during the night. I'm sure some do however but just not a common thought.

What about the Paradigm of the Pedagogue and where do we enter it?

A couple of trival things. One of the main characters in Outlanders is Wulfric.

And I always thought roommate was a reference to the movie, Sixth Sense.

I am open to the chained thing being an animal, but for some reason my mind keeps going back to Black Snake Moan.

Hatshoe keeps telling me (s)he thinks I am the closest. Closest to what, I am not sure. Physical proximity to something/someone? Closest in an answer of some sort? Still pondering.

Got a reply from hatshoe. Nothing new though.
Just wanted to share so others will not waste time:

Me:
Quote:
I seem to be stuck in your collection though I have a fantasy concerning the big picture.
I tried to make something out of the sleepwalk clue but got nothing yet.
and also tried to start anew, which meant to process every jpg on your site again, a quite psychedelic experience Smile , even tried to see something in the Lynyrd Skynyrd-song "Freebird"
Last thing I tried was to take your hint that there is some clue in every doc literally: Wrote down the starting letter of each doc as a sequence and tried to decipher it in vigenere-code with some dozens of keys related to morrowind and/or your site ---> nothing sensible so far.

I feel like I´m missing something totally obvious. Maybe the speech barrier hinders me from understanding each word properly.
and then again I hook up on little things like the incorrect spellimg in bakingsoda, reptilians in camping chairs and dead roommates.
Well, maybe I should just lean back and defocus a little.
How is Carl btw ? - Still the boring neighbour ? Maybe spice up his life, while he´s at work Wink
Did your love-issues work out for you ? Hope so. We all need love from time to time.

So, I must be going

Yours

For now I´m trying to adopt the paradigm of a pedagogue and find mistakes. Someone mentioned this before: there is something odd about the capital letters in some of the docs. Most likely I´ll trout myself again - as usual.

I´d really liked to help with the sourcecode, but I know nothing of these matters.

So it seems we have found the answer but don't know what to do with it. I'm not sure to which 'solution' he is reffering though as we have suspected so many things.

I believe your spelling and grammar are in need of some work, however; semicolons are precious things. Your images and messages are intriguing.

Wow a couple of good posts to get us going. Teh_Lisa, I love the semicolons are precious comment!

That leads me to make this comment. Does it seem like hatshoe on the other end of the emails is not the same person writing on the topics such as skeletor or full or camera or any for that matter. I always felt this was an adolescent's notebook or journal.

Hatshoe the emailer almost writes in prose. Not quite iambic pentameter but close-ish. It almost seems like he is trying to write in olde english, successfully or not. This could be trying to emulate Elder Scrolls-ease.

Or that he has a set number of letters/words he must include in each message. He does mention being limited in the way he can answer questions.

The number nine repeat reminds me of the Beatles song Revoltion which btw played a part of the whole John is dead controversy. Played backwards it said "turn me on dead man".

If they are the same are they also the Watcher of Carl?

Jaeger if we have the slolution I don't see it and maybe worse I wouldn't know what to do with it if we did. Confused
