It reminded me of Revolution 9 also, except HatShoe typed it exactly 9 times. Which I like. I am a freak about numbers. It also reminded me of a Soul Coughing song.

ETA: the other thing that I can't quite get my head around is this. The response of "I thought you would have been the first" could have been regarding the word engine. If that is so then it leads me to believe I am the closest to perfection. That couldn't be further than the truth, though. Smile

Also, semicolons *are* precious things Smile

Could be your experience, I went back to the beginning and noticed that you have, as a combo, the most time and posts of any.

Or your time zone, I noticed on your twitter info which I followed from watcher of carl that you are half a world away from me.

Or it could be your are a female...ladies first you know. Wink

But none of that explains closest in my book unless... okay this is just an off the wall theory. I actually had it typed in last night and cancelled because I think it is out there but since you mentioned Black Snake Moan and you are the closest.

What if these pages all relate some way to different movies. We already have the Matrix, Batman Begins and Outlander. Then throw in my spec about Sixth Sense and your Black Snake. Now dust it with Hoof equal Sex in the City and Fishing Rod equaling A River Runs Through It. Voila, now you are starting a pretty good movie list. Voice seems like a moive I've seen also.

It also fits some with the meta in the source about gathering round and recounting tales.

Interesting theory. The problem is that I excel in interaction rather than solves. My mind is working, however.

Movies theory is interesting, but I'd like to expand that to movies and games, we have Scribblenauts, Elder Scrolls, X-Com and possibly Rome: Total War. The question is why? I can't figure that part out. What does it all lead to?

Whitecross, I'm as confused about the 'solution' comment also. I asked what he meant and which solution he was referring to, and also what to do with it but I don't expect a straight answer.

Also, I wouldn't get hung up on the movies thing being the solution either, that would only hold true if hatshoe is reading these forums. I think it may be something in the emails that lisa sent that's led him to say she is the closest, but I have no idea what. This one's awfully cryptic and non-explanatory isn't it?

I like the movies/games theory, something seems to be related in there, but then how do you explain entries like "full"? Unless it's a quote from a movie. Or "terror"? I've looked long and hard for references to that quote and not found any. So either it is a quote from something obscure (maybe a game?), or it's made up for some purpose. Either we take it at face value or we assume it hides some sort of code. We haven't found any intrinsic code, so perhaps it only means something when combined with the other pages, but if so I can't see how.

I've been emailing back and forth with Mr. Shoe but haven't learned anything useful yet.

Is "Voice" equal to "Stranger Than Fiction"? That's the first thing I thought of.

Anyone notice the most recent tweet from the watcherofcarl? He is going away. I emailed to ask if I could watch Carl. Maybe that is what he means by I am closest?

Another idea:

In xcom.html you can find this: " If you want to do something creative punctuate my sentences for me you swine "
I looked over the docs concentrating on spelling. What if correcting the punctuation is the key ? Let´s say you find a missing point at the end of a sentence and note it, you find a missing comma in a sentence and note it.
Doing this for the docs in the right sequence may yield a morse code.
I´ll give it a try, but as I´m german, I will most likely fail epically.

Besides, this would fit teh_lisa being the closest as she was the only one referring to punctuation in her mail-contact with hatshoe.

P.S.
Does anybody know a tool or an applet that can transform numbers into letters ?
In such a way that I enter a n-digit number and the tool will break it into pairs and yield a letter sequence, where A=01, B=02,...,Z=26 .

Thanks in advance

I'm far too exhausted to contribute any good advice, but I'd like to post before I forget, and second Fnord's idea about punctuation, cheer on teh_lisa for bringing it up, and agree with the movie/game compilation idea.

I've got nothing so far, but I promise to sleep on it ^_~*

I almost wonder, now, if this is someone I know. If punctuation and grammar are the answer, they thought I would be the first because I am a grammar nazi. Tomorrow I get to correcting, I guess.

I sent this:
Quote:
Pardon me, for becoming slightly sidetracked from my previous inquiries. I wonder what you meant by a smokescreen. It was a free hint, and I thank you for that. I am curious however of what we ought to be searching for within the smokescreen. Could you shed some light on this question for us please?

Sincere Regards,
~Yaslana

and now Mr. Hatshoe has emailed me a response:
Quote:
Part of the smokescreen involves not talking about the smokescreen.
One knows how to get around this already.
I'm sure you can find him somehow.

Does anybody else get a sort of 'Fight Club' feel from this email? ((I only know the quote from that movie, but I'm sure there are others that may know more))

Of course, there is the possibility this doesn't have anything to do with movies at all >_>

I thought the same thing before you even said anything, in the movie, the first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club. Altho, it is very unlikeyl this has anything more to do with this.

whats more intresting is the fact that we "need to find him somehow",
i was trying to figure out who "him" was and my first thought it could be carl or his sleep walking uncle or another mentioned male character from one of his pages or it could be someone completely different.

Also, there is a new tweet up, looks like he is back from his break, it says:
Quote:
Guess we've started a process that can't be reversed. Observation is interference and all that good stuff.

I think it refers to when you study something you cant help but have an effect on its envirnoment just by being there, when people study wild animals for behavial patterns, it has been recorded that their being there, observing has effected them already,
also, he could just be saying that carl is on to him, lol. I wonder if we can find this carl?

The "Love" entry reminded me of The Collector, by John Fowles.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Collector

Its an amazing book.

Two new updates, Peaches and Hatshoe. Peaches doesn't seem too interesting (although it does have a new style of writing the logo that I don't think we've seen before). Hatshoe, on the other hand, mentions that he's gotten an e-mail (from one of us?); in the source code is the message:
Quote:
We are almost beginning to tell the truth
In May, the third of four will leave

Contrast manipulation and such doesn't seem to reveal anything interesting.

New Twitter updates, too; the stalker says he "didn't think [Carl] was like this" and that he "might not be the only one playing this game". Perhaps another stalker whose Twitter account we have to find?

Based on the last few Twitter updates, I'm prepared to baselessly speculate that Carl killed someone (or committed some other serious crime) and is trying frantically to cover it up (staying up late to do something, driving a different car).
