Just found this whole 'Hatshoe' thing... is it safe to call this an ARG yet? I've read through the majority of this thread and am in the process of finishing up reading all the entries thusfar.

Though there are a lot of references to video games and movies, I'm pretty sure this isn't a promotional thing, and the "character" who is writing these entries is probably meant to be portrayed as a fan of gaming and films.
He seems a bit mental to me, for sure. He says some intelligent things, but mostly a lot of nonsense, and seems very erratic and unpredictable. Schizophrenic?

Very interesting, I'm excited to see where this will be going.
I'll probably shoot an email to the given address as soon as I can think of something interesting to say or worth saying. I'm trying to think of something that would elicit more than just a vague response from him.

We assume it's a male due to the posts referring to hair, I assume a female's chest hair and chest wouldn't look as they do in the illustration. I doubt there's much you can say to recieve more than vagueness as there seems to be something preventing him from replying in any other way than he does. But welcome to the madness that is hatshoe!

Oh God, hahaha, I actually laughed out loud at myself after remembering that. I'm just making mistake after mistake today. Thanks for reminding me about the chest hair and all that... S'been a long day, I guess my mind isn't as sharp as it should be right now (and I shouldn't really be posting until it is... haha).

I was thinking perhaps he's got dissociative identity disorder, which seems pretty cliché, but it could be. Looking at the signs and symptoms of dissociative identity disorder, he seems detached (or is that a hallucination? I can't tell), has an unexplainable phobia, and just now had a flashback to a traumatic incident. And of course, it seems like his style of writing changes from journal entries to email.

Also, I sent Hatshoe a message yesterday asking why he thought someone else was playing this game with Carl, and he said:
Quote:
I have caught another neighbour peering from his window less than innocently at our friend Carl.
He knows now too.

Then I asked what he'd do if the neighbor was more than curious, and he replied:
Quote:
I think I favour Carl's interests over the other neighbour's.
I might have to intervene.

I hope he does intervene.

Absolutely! Dissociative Identity Disorder was the 'next in line' so to speak in terms of the disorder I suspect the character may have. Having done an extensive project on DID, I certainly feel like our 'narrator', so to speak, exemplifies many of the symptoms.

I mentioned schizophrenia because;
    - The extreme hallucinations he seems to have ("Staying Awake", "Grave", and the like)
    - The fact that he regards them (the hallucinations) passively and as if they are normal
    - The fact that he seems to have delusions of being a warrior or assassin (though he could be referring to playing video games, he seems to take it very seriously and acts as if he himself has done things like "attack[ing] castles or settlements"... "Castles", "Door Unlock", and the like)
    - The way he exhibits a very loose, seemingly random flow of consciousness (his very random journal entries, how some of the entries tend to ramble or make little sense... "Back Hair", "Bone", and the like)
    - How he appears to be very socially isolated and behaves oddly (doing things like spying on his neighbor Carl very closely)

However, symptoms and characteristics of Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) also apply;
In the entries, he seems to exhibit various different personalities including:
    - The angry, hostile tone of "Cameras", "X-com", and the like
    - The random silliness of "Chest Hair", "Back Hair", "Bone" and the like
    - The interest in games and films and general "nerdiness" portrayed in "Matrix", "Outlander", "Door Unlock", and the like
    - The paranoia and tendency to hallucinate and spew unnerving nonsense or bizarre stories such as those in "Sleepwalking", "Staying Awake", "Sleeping Pill", and the like
    - The occasional intelligence and depth of thought and understanding he sometimes displayed in entries such as "Terror" and "Natural"
    - Perhaps most predominately, how he seems to be addressing someone else in "Notes", perhaps one of his alters (alter-egos or personalities) speaking to another?
    - The handwriting appears to vary entry-to-entry, sometimes very neat and sometimes very hasty and sloppy; the writing utensils used vary often as well (colored pens, pencils)
    - His phobias/irrational fears (such as the fear of the Reptilian in "Staying Awake" or of touching the roof of his mouth with his tongue in "Breathing")
    - Auditory hallucinations ("Voice")

Obviously the list for the latter is extensive, but both schizophrenia and DID seem to be plausible diagnosis for our 'narrator'. He may have both, or if he does have DID one of his alters may be schizophrenic. But since some symptoms of both disorders are "interchangeable" (could apply to either one), it's just as likely that he has only one. We probably won't ever know for sure, but he's definitely not all there in the head as far as generally accepted standards of "normalcy" go.

One of the reasons I'm so interested in Hatshoe is because it seems to be a collection of diary entries by a madman. They're very well done and eerie ("Sleepwalk" in particular shocked and surprised me at the end and even gave me chills). I can't wait for more entries, and even if there's no real point to all this, it's very interesting.

I'll probably ask him more about Carl. I'm curious to know whether or not there's something especially unusual or suspicious about Carl that would cause our narrator as well as another neighbor to watch him.

I sent HS one of my usual, odd emails. I didn't mention a female but HS's reply was only:

Quote:
I feel like I know her but sometimes my arms bend back.

It made me think of Nightmare on Elm Street when the guy is weight lifting and then his arms go all the way back and snap. I don't think that is related, it is just what I thought of.

So this is the she mentioned in the tweet maybe?

What I'm saying here, Carl, is that I could have kept your infidelities secret. Of course I would. But you haven't been discreet

Looks like Carl is possibly having an affair....

New message from 'the Hat'. It is a copypasta and laid out exactly as it was in the original message:

Quote:
I have
two leave it
now.
I might have
to go on without
without sharing
all the things
that I would
like.

Why the odd spelling of two? Maybe that's a clue of some sort. Something odd has happened and I'm no closer to understanding what the hell is going on! Whitecross, Lisa, Kevrock, anyone...I'm going insane with this one! lol

i took the two mistakes from the comment in the post just above, "two" & "without" and i put in the link,
like so, but not expectin to get anything:
