I agree with this take on it.

I also think it's interesting that guy#2 has apparently found ouot about a Navy ship dropping in via "cable chatter" rather than any other "offical" channel. This lends credence to the spec that these men are running some sort of covert operation to uncover military information.

Who says the "cable chatter" is not on the military bands? It's easier to be in the know by monitoring the comms vs "official channels". Just ask Axon Hotters what is the fastest method of information dissemination.

I agree, this helps to show that the CO is the one talking as the old man.

Hello, transcript

Transcript of hello.wav from the Aug27 DC axon (recipe3).
Good job, aliendial and crew!

Crotchety: Hello, hello, is anyone there?
(Maria): Quartermaster's Help Desk, this is Maria speaking, can i help you?
Crotchety: I don't know, but you can sure as hell try; I was on a call with someone there, must have been an hour and a half or something, she kept putting me on hold and finally I'm talking to someone, well maybe it was the same girl, I don't know, and then the line goes dead, and now I got to start all over again. And with a receipt and everything!
Maria: How can I help you, sir?
Crotchety: So the thing is I'm sitting in my study maybe I'm looking at some stuff on the computer, that's nobody's business but my own, I don't care what time of day, but especially if it's late at night, and all of a sudden these guys show up at my door and start taking my stuff!
Maria: I assume "these guys" were navy personnel?

Sounds like that to me.

so the question is... what are those "family papers" REALLY?

i think the commander and the old man are the same person, the subordinate just came in when the receptionist put him on hold

i think the "dottering old fool" bit is just a cover to avoid detection (he gets in to character on the second Hello, -thanks Improvious), but he's damn adamnant about getting those papers... could they be information on James family, or related to the Apocolypso in anyway?

(btw, 'Apocolypso' would make a great name for a Carribean themed death metal band)

Actually, yeah, it does seem quite like that. (I have to assume that's in-game, and not just the voice actor fumbling.)

But here's part that confuses me most: to me, the first "Hello" doesn't sound like either of the two men who're talking while Receipt is on hold. The crewman's voice seems too high, and the CO's voice seems too deep.

Based on hello.wav, where the old man mentions that his previous call had been disrupted, I'd say that this thread starts at the same time as all the other threads.

If that is true, then I guess it's obvious that Cpl. Janet Adams is NOT Janissary James.

As to the question of whether the call is happening or is being replayed. I'm leaning towards the former. The Higher Ranking guy (or whatever we're calling him these days) has called the Quartermaster's office and is impersonating an Old Man. For the following reasons:
  • The Old Man voice is waaay over the top.
  • It does seem like it takes the guy a couple seconds to get back into character after coming off hold.
  • The call conversation is put on hold, THEN the lower ranking officer knocks. If it was a replay, I would expect the lower ranking officer to knock first, prompting Higher Ranking to pause the playback.
  • Having all threads start at the comm. disruption fits really well. Listening to a call that began at the comm. disruption, not so well.
So, what information are we supposed to have gleaned from these .wav's?
  • Troy's been attacked.
  • The colonists were warned and evac'ed before the attack.
  • The Apocalypso returned to Earth around the time of the comm disruption.
  • There's a new character Lance Cpl. Janet Adams, and she's officially KIA.
What thinks the rest of you?

Troy was glassed actually... but there was NO evacuation, ONI pulled out anyone important and let the planet get glassed, they did this so the Covies wouldn't get wise to the fact that ONI knew. Mellisa was on board the ship that discovered the plan, and transmitted it to Oni hq. Cpt Greene however, decided to NOT warn Troy directly. This can all be seen in the "military conversation". Perhaps Mellisa felt guilty about letting Troy get destroyed, and went insane because of it.

This is probably the most important, but I couldn't say why just yet.

My only note on 'hello' is that there are two sets of beeps at the begining and right after the long wind up.

Digging around the older stuff:

Quote:
"You're my crew, and no one is going to touch my crew without going through me. I've got your back, McKaskill. But you're going to have to tell me about this contact."

"Some old guy. You know, bad taste in clothes. But he was cleared to come aboard, so he has to be Intel."

"You know his name?"

"Probably not his real one."

Possibly connected to the receipt character?

that would be Jason Morelli, Jersey's father... but whether they're the same guy or not... we don't know yet.... could be, it would lend credence to the "family papers are more than they appear" spec

I think that's the thing we're supposed to catch from this. Perhaps it was the Apocalypso that crashed and caused the huge power outage. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

While I'm leaning in this direction too, there is a problem with it.

The Castaway was picked up in deep space, according to Melissa.

If the Apocalypso is the cause of the disruption, then this would all be occuring around Earth. Assuming Melissa is coming from deep space and/or Troy, it seems like he should already be on board.
