Background info

Some background info:

Quote:

Well, there's only so much that l can tell you about the library and
it isn't much at all to be honest! We're not really supposed to talk
about it to outsiders. Still, l kind of feel you deserve to know...

The library collects items that other libraries and museums don't...
that they would probably go as far as to say don't even exist. Magical
items, mythical items... anything out of the ordinary really.

Does that help?

I wish more people would play this game - it is so interesting and I am not that good in social interaction with IG characters.

i, on the other, crave IG character interaction. the puzzles are nice, but the interactive storylines are what draw me to ARGs.

unfortunately i'm so busy these days, as i was with 'I'm Sorry', that i can't really lend time to perusing every blog post and following the story verbatim.

i can help where i can, but the current format for ARGs (forum-post based) makes it difficult to keep up.

there is a new blog post up:

Quote:
Well, I'm back from Sutton Hoo. The weather has been miserable today, but you'll be glad to know that I didn't come back empty handed!

l found a sheet of paper with some letters and numbers on. l'll upload a picture as soon as l can, but for now here's a description;

CT P HPC F W A
1939, 10-10, 93 : R41

That's what it said. There were some colours too, but you'll see them when I upload the picture... if you gyys haven't figured out the clue already by then of course!

Good luck...

once the image is uploaded we can try and make sence of the sequence.

at first glance the 2nd line looks like a literary reference of some sort. of course, R41 refers to a .RAR file extenstion. maybe there's a compressed file somewhere.

i just wiki'd "the librarian" movies. gotta say, it sounds right up my alley. will go pick them up when i can. fascinated!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/families_and_children/online_tours/sutton_hoo/sutton_hoo.aspx
M&ME, which I figure is a classification system of the Sutton Hoo museum, records 1939,10-10,93 in Room 41 as a Helmet of some sort and possibly a multitude of artifacts dug out under Mound 1.

given the spirit of 'The Librarian", one or possibly all of these artifacts are likely the source of the treasure hunt.

so what's left to explain is the meaning of the letters.

more information on the "Sutton Hoo Helmet" can be found on page 2/10here under 4. Gina Dragoni - Device Resubmission from Laurel Return Feb 05 L O A R.

it is also referred to in the Sutton Hoo wiki and seems to be a rather famous artifact.

i've written darcy this email:

I've read your latest blog post, Darcy, and I think I can help!

The number sequence refers to a catalogue at the British Museum and points to the Sutton Hoo helmet.

I'm stuck on the meaning of the letters, though. Can't wait to see the image; hopefully the colours help!

Where did you find this, anyway?

Interesting that Mound 1 is also the rumored burial digs of Beowulf....

picture is up.

CT is BLACK
P is PINK
HPC is BLUE
F is YELLOW
W is GREY
A is BLACK

I have no idea what it means.

the only thing that jumps at me right now is this:

CT P HPC F W A
SU T TON H O O

don't know if it's even close to relevant.

Not sure if this will help or not, but they're likely stops on the London tube....

Color coded by line [i.e. CT - on the black line = Camden Town, P - on the pink line = Paddington [Plaistow?], HPC - on the blue line = Hyde Park Corner, F - on the yellow line = Farringdon, W - on the grey line = Waterloo [Westminster?], A - on the black line = Angel [Archway?]

There might be other possibs, but the HPC = Hyde Park Corner is what has me sold on the tube... no clue what y'all have to do with it tho.

i'm not familiar with london or it's tube system. not in the least.

however maybe we're supposed to follow the line sequentially and end up somewhere. i imagine the british museum, i think in suffix?, is not located in the same place as Sutton Hoo. perhaps the line leads there, which would explain the number code.

A suffix is something you stick on the end of a word. Were you aiming for Suffolk or Sussex, there? Suffolk contains Sutton Hoo. Sussex contains neither of these things. The British Museum is in London, specifically Westminster.

I think the tube is the key. Each of the stations appear to be 7 stops appart, with the exception of waterloo to Angel which dependent on which way you go is either 5, 8 or 9. Could be a PM miscount.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

If you count 7 stops from Angel this can take you to Tottenham Court ROad which is the nearest station to the British Museum. We have worked out the Sutton Hoo Helmet is at the Birtish museum from the cocde but the Staffordshire Hoard is also on show there at present too.

I emailed Darcy with our theory and my thoughts, although we seem to be on the right track (pardon the pun) im not sure weve cracked it. HEres her reply.

The British Museum does seem to make a lot of sense, but I've looked
and not all those stations are seven stops apart, are they? I can't
find any way of counting that gets me from Waterloo to Angel in seven
jumps.

Still, I'm eager for something to do. I'm going to head down to London
and buy myself a daysaver for the Underground and check out all these
stations. Maybe there's something there that will help me figure out
where to go next...

heres a new blog post too

See, another morning I wake up and you've figured something out! Some of you noticed that the coloured letters are likely to stand for Underground stations on the London underground network.

I can't help feeling that maybe you're supposed to do something with these six stations once you've figured them out, but nevertheless I'm eager for something to do, so I'm going to head down to London to check it out. One daysaver ticket for the London Underground, coming right up...

I'll let you know if I find anything in particular. Meanwhile, you all keep looking at this puzzle, see if you can find me a destination that everything points to.

Tube

I think I have found the solution:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

If you connect the stations on the London Map (not the Tube map) in this way:
Camden Twon - Waterloo
Paddington - Farringdon
HPC - Angel

the three lines crosses in one point: British Museum Wink
see my google map : http://tinyurl.com/yc4kq3z

So you guys were right.

Here's the question, then. The British Museum is indicated by the Tube map and a specific location inside the Museum is indicated by the Number code.

However we've already talked to Darcy about the Museum being the location. Perhaps she just needed that extra nudge?

We should suggest that she takes a trip to Room 41. Maybe the Helmet is missing, thus beginning the adventure?

I think she was just trying to tell us that we hadn't solved the whole thing yet. She did, after all, take off to London -- I'll bet she'll be happy to charge off to the Museum now. Smile

[META] I think the PM thought that we first solve the Tube puzzle and than find the helmet that is displayed there. Unfortunately the 1939, 10-10, 93 : R41 hint directly lead to the British museum without solving the tube puzzle, which was - by the way - a perfect designed puzzle
[/META]

I have sent Darcy the "correct" solve.

I'll head over there now and see what I can find...
