Why do you pick those particular words?

Because Warden Yarn is an anagram for Andrew Ryan. Ayn Rand, I can't quite remember who she was, but if you look through the archives, you'll find her. But Warden Yarn was, if I remember right, an alias Ryan used to do business dealings.

Well, I doubt it's a coincidence that he gave us the seven letters we need to spell Andrew Ryan...

However, I'm wondering if we're supposed to type in words at all. Going back to the Phronima puzzle, the values of the letters are:

A = 0
D = 3
E = 4
N = 13
R = 17
W = 22
Y = 24

Are we supposed to do another math problem?

Ayn Rand was the author of Atlas Shrugged. Her objectivist theories are what Bioshock, specifically Rapture and Andrew Ryan, are based on.

COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT.

We knew that back when the first game came out.

Good point Sylo, i was originally thinking that there would be a calibration problem for the gyroscope. (Although "seeker must be set AT sea" would have been far more useful to mark in ludwidges notes...) I have a feeling that the box is showing a set of numbers (likely a bearing or coordinates on a map of some kind). If that is so i think it would work something along the lines of pinata hunt.

IE-The box gives you a bearing or position and a distance to travel, you go there, punch in something, and it spits out another set of bearings and a distance...something along those lines.

On another note it also seems like the Andrew Ryan anagram could be something else...Either way it must have more levels or something to guide Mark to the light house.

P.S. Where is this live chat located, is it some type of IRC or something else?

Nope. Just Yahoo. Send a friend request to kimuris@yahoo, and/or kuramon3000@yahoo. We just do Instant Messaging.

Has anyone else noticed that the symbols circled in the book on dresser are:

erdna
w
r
y
a
n

or, andrew ryan when flipped and put together...

Maybe the writing on the right hand page is a clue to the puzzle box.

"Now test you knowledge of the cypher! Find the hidden words... and remember, on this grid sometimes Y = X!" And again at the bottom, "Remember! On this grid, sometimes X = Y"

That explains x and y being on the same square.

Maybe the answers in the cypher book are the words we have to input into the box. Oh and someone earlier identified the vacuum tubes as nixie tubes. A nixie is also a two tailed mermaid that would disguise themself as a human.

I've been figuring out what the answers are to these questions. These are some of the ones I came up with.

9. bog
10. fisk
11. sif
14. qat
17. haj
18. alice
19. jv

This one was interesting though...

6. adfgx

check this out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Painvin

It's supposed to be adfgVx, but there is no v in the answer found in the puzzle. Any thoughts?

Sorry to double post but I can't edit as a guest. The link I gave also goes here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADFGVX_cipher

I think this is the solution to crack the code.

damm I miss all the good updates...oh well.

Anyway @Player from Reading wasn't V originally omitted from the code? as well as some other numbers? also I couldn't help but notice I and J are supposed to be together...similar to Y and X hey?
