 (39C) Questions?

Recently my daughter started reading the first book of the series. I knew there was an online page for it, but didn't realize that it was an ARG of sorts (Which is so cool that my 11yo daughter is getting into them now since I do them too). We got the book from the library about 3 weeks ago and she got to the section where the page numbers are different. She asked me about then and I told her it looks like it was a puzzle. We soon figured out what it said. She was so excited to find that one puzzle and figure it out so we looked up the 39clues website.

My question is.. Do you need the cards to play? Is there a way to get the cards w/o buying the book? Any other things I should know about it before she gets too far into the books? Any suggestions I should give her?

Thanks guys! If there are answers to any of these questions already on the boards, please link me. I did a search but only found the "Trading" thread!

There are several things you can do without the cards (arena 39, all 6 missions), but collecting cards is a big part of the game, and you need the cards in order to have all the pieces of the 39 Clues puzzle.
If you live in the US, you can request codes for the online cards by sending a SASE to scholastic:

If you are referring to sending in a SASE, that info is on the 39 Clues site at http://www.the39clues.com/info/prizes/usa for the US. If not in the US, pick your location from http://www.the39clues.com/info/prizes

Hi is there anyway someone could give me the address for where you send the sase to .

Here you go: The 39 Clues Card Pack Mail-In Entry for Books 1, 2, and 3, Scholastic Inc, 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012. But you could also order it on Amazon or other online bookseller.

details are here http://www.the39clues.com/info/prizes/usa

Search for "Cards in Books" or "Cards in Card Packs"

Right now there are 6 books, so you'd have to send 6 SASEs in 6 envelopes addressed to The 39 Clues Mail-In Entry, Book #1 through The 39 Clues Mail-In Entry, Book # 6.
And there are 2 card packs: The 39 Clues Card Pack Mail In Entry for Books #4, #5, and #6 and The 39 Clues Card Pack Mail In Entry for Books #1, #2, and #3 (I assume they still give out #'s for the first card pack).

I usually send about 8 requests for card packs (4 one month, then 4 after I get those returned). Then I usually have enough to trade for what I'm missing. So I've sent about 22 SASE's so far: 22 return envelopes, 22 outer envelopes, 44 cents postage for each - about $20 total plus cost of the envelopes. Sometimes it takes them 4-6 weeks to get back. The good news is that now there are "card replicators" for cards you don't have - although I'm saving all mine for the last set of cards. If you are still missing rare cards, next year they will start issuing card packs of just rare & ultra-rare cards.

Instead of sending ALL the requests at once, you may want to send half now, and half of them later. Until they finally return your codes, you spend weeks thinking they've lost your envelope and you've wasted all that postage.
Good Luck.

Thanks Sapagoo! I'm sure my daughter will be very excited when she gets home! I'm going to get some envelopes and do a few today!
