apply the same principle to the other one.

A great sense of unease - apprehension - 12 letters
To be shared between = to divide
The joint in the centre of the leg - knee - 4 letters.

Answer = 3

I figured angst would not divide by 4 so found apprehension which would.

Well, that makes it seem a lot easier. Guess I was overthinking it a bit with trying to make it about words you get from mathematical solutions. I like the answers brown got.

so simple. i wish i hadn't just sent this email to Darcy:

Quote:
Darcy,

Sorry for the silence; we've been completely preoccupied with trying to win Five's trust. We did a good job to an extent, however he gave us an identity test w can't seem to solve.

To perform on stage
Taken from
A large size of warm beverage

There's no indication how to solve the puzzle and there are many loose ambiguities that we can create for ourselves.

The school of thought right now is that the middle sentence is an action item, referring to some kind of union between the first and third sentece.

What do you think?

in refernece to her new blog post:

It's oh so quiet...
Anyone out there?

I haven't heard from any of you this weekend, and well... I'm just worried I've scared you all off or something. Have any of you tried to get in contact with this Five person? What did he/she say to you?

Knowing that they have Flynn and that I can't do anything about it is just killing me... Please, someone out there let me know you're still working on this?

Darcy

So now I'll email Five in response to the test with our answer of 2.

Good work owl.

I had emailed Darcy as a response to her blog to let her know some had contacted numerlogica and had been set and identity test. I told her that I thought i'd got a solution but wanted to see what you all thought of it first.

Well, Five certainly didn't like the answer. Lol.

ok well I think the theory is correct, perhaps the words we have used the letter count for arent.

large warm beverage could be a cappacino sp? or a grande latte. etc. not good on large warm beverages as I dont drink anything hot.

to perform on stage - I realise now could be live why else would it differentiate it to being on stage, you can after all act on TV as well as on stage.

It's very difficult to really nail this down because the clues to the words we're looking for are so damn vague. We could send him multiple numeric responses and still be wrong Sad I find it frustrating that the clues weren't more specific.

Large size of a hot beverage?? Coffee, Tea, Apple Cider, Coacoa... hell, could be a bottle of Sake for all we know LOL.

ok so if its a number we are looking for. hows this for a thoery.

to perform on stage = act = 3 letters

taken from = (the math bit) just do as it says

a large warm beverage = grande = 5 letters

so take 3 from 5 and you get 2, theres your number.

I think "venti" is the largest size at Starbucks, isn't it? In any event, I thought I'd point out -- "grande" has 6 letters, not 5. So if it's "grande" the answer would be 3, not 2. (Notably, "venti" by this method would give 2, which we know is wrong, so maybe it should be "grande").

ETA: Since "grande" actually means "large," my bet is on that as the right word here, regardless of the method.

ok now you all know to check my maths. but at least we know its not venti.

Actually if the answer is 3 then it would be the same answer as we get from the other clues.

UPDATE on the Numerologica blog. Also, this email from Darcy with imo a nice hint re the solution method.

Darcy wrote:
Hi Amandel,

Thanks for getting in touch! I'm definitely keeping my head down at the moment... I've been as far as the cafe to eat, but otherwise I'm pretty much not leaving the hotel.

I wouldn't worry about the identity test; that sounds like Numerologica standard to me! They're really paranoid. Doesn't surprise me that the answer is a number, either... everything is a number to them, it seems. Their answers, their names... wouldn't surprise me if the questions were just numbers too.

Anyway, thanks for writing! Hearing from you guys helps me feel a little less alone.

"Restlessness" would also work, giving the same result.
"Disquiet" is another possibility, which would give 2 as an answer, but it would makes sense if the answers to both puzzles was the same -- 3.

BTW, great thinking on the method, brownowl. Smile

My email response from Darcy:

Hi Syn,

Great to hear from you! When you're stuck in a hotel room all day just seeing that you've got email really help you feel a little less alone.
That puzzle looks really hard! It suprises me; I would have thought that a group like Numeroligca would have sent you an algebra puzzle or something.. given how obsessed they are with nunmbers!

I'll have a think about it anyway and see if I can come up with anything.

Darcy

Quite obviously a number answer, and most likely 3. Thanks for someone actually checking the math, haha.

Interesting blog from Numerologica:

Quote:
In transit

We will soon be moving the hostage.

All cells await further instructions.

As per usual, each instruction will be a fraction of the whole; you will need all parts to know where the hostage is being moved to and when.

In numerus, silentium.

So Flynn is being moved and we have to track him down by impersonating a cell and discerning the clues.

Emailing Five with the correct response:

Quote:
Of course it's not 2. Again you pass the identity test. Only an imposter would have agreed to our fraudulent response. Well done, Five.

3.

Does this mean Five will only have a "fraction of the whole". So even when we get this information from Five we will miss other parts. The question is could we contact other cells?
