Maybe this has some Cthulhu connections (though, I guess that is a pretty common theme nowadays).

In an email above, Scott says
Quote:
The man in the robe is not part of our universe. He is not bound by this though. He is not bound to any universe. He does not walk the plane of time, he walks the space in which these planes lay.

And I found this about Yog-Sothoth, a Cthulhu Mythos entity:
Quote:
Yog-Sothoth is an Outer God and is coterminous with all time and space yet is supposedly locked outside of the universe we inhabit.

Kinda similar Dunno Though, I guess "He does not walk the plane of time" could be interpreted as he doesn't acknowledge time at all.

Also, there's a short description of an avatar of it in a story, where he could be seen as a man in a robe:
Quote:
He is described as the silhouette of a man behind a strange, shimmering veil.

Ugh, don't get me excited. Cthulhu rocks my friggin' socks.

Sorry for the double post, but I figure I'll keep the calculations and theory in a separate post from the information we have for clues.

So far, it doesn't look as simple as an ROT. I tried them all... it isn't happening. Tried playing with some anagrams on Jack's piece, since the letters are in order (whatever that actually means). So far, the possibilities are endless as far as that goes, so if it's a scramble, this is going to take a LONG time. I've been guessing at key phrases, I'm going to try some from the Scott's Theory diagram.

Mail from Scott:

Quote:
My theory is something you may want to look at. Like I said, it's time to make connections.

Not necessarily a key to the puzzle, but I'm looking into it as well. 'Rapture', 'December', etc. have no worked out as key phrases at a Vig solve, either.

I don't think John's part is an anagram since Scott said the letters are in order, but I tried it too. You're right, too many to count, but nothing jumped out at me. I tried ROT as well, no dice. I played around with the vigenere cipher and that let me down as well.

Equally, don't bother trying to de-steg. The file is too small to begin with, but I still tried it. Either it's empty, or we need a password.

Hint from Scott:

Quote:
You all have the letters that make the note when combined. Each person's letters are in the order they appear in the whole. As for a hint, you have the first letter.

If you look at all of the pieces of the note, punchline's is the only one that begins with a capital letter. I think that's the first piece.

Yeah, sorry for hijacking your clue, Ifso Razz

I got it forwarded to me in an e-mail so I just threw it in with the rest. This one is STILL baffling me. Newest twitter from our buddy Scott/Hadron says the following.

Quote:
It's just like a jigsaw puzzle. How do the pieces fit?

I imagine that's geared towards our 'puzzle' of sorts, but doesn't do a lot in the way of helping us figure it out. I Tweeted good ol' Brucy and he's planning on taking a look, as well. Unfortunately, I'm more of a social interaction and logic puzzle sort of guy, so while I'm good at working with the PMs, I just plain suck with code and numbers.

I broke the code down and have figured out a few things thus far.

First off, I'm relatively certain that Clue #4 applies to ALL our clues. The letters are in order. Otherwise, this puzzle would literally be unsolvable. That being said, I believe that there is no CODE to be solved, just a matter of putting the letters together. Let me show you.

Quote:
T m n e e i t l e u J c . Y u e b t a o a s o t e n s
e h e r h o e x r n f u t o s m u m p s v s t h n t

r s u i o a a n i a p H w s r p
e l o o a u a i s s t i e e o .

h n i t o j y k o m d a . o v e a
m e i e y n t r s o t s h u t e e

e a h b s k o r h l f m c e ,
e c . w s p h y u a i n r x

We know that it begins with the letter 'T', and that NO ONE has consecutive letters. So our puzzle starts:

T________

Using only varying letter from each puzzle, and without mixing up the orders of the letters in their individual lines, I have so far made the phrase:

Quote:
The man in the robes is just

This might not be correct, though I'm fairly certain it begins with "The man in robes" or "the man in the robes". I took the letters in order from each column and shook it up a bit to get this result, but its a slooooow process. Here's a copy and paste from where I am on my screen right now, if anyone else wants to take a shot at trying it my way.

Quote:
t l e u J c . Y u e b t a o a s o t e n s e h e r h o e x r n f u t o s m u m p s v s t h n t

i o a a n i a p H w s r p e l o o a u a i s s t i e e o .

y k o m d a . o v e a m e i e y n t r s o t s h u t e e

k o r h l f m c e , e c . w s p h y u a i n r x

The man in the robes is just

I have already removed the letters I've already used. Maybe a fresh brain can help take over from here. I'll update as I come up with more. I hope this is it, but keep exploring alternatives, kids. This is coming along nicely.

Every time I think I'm making progress the whole thing falls apart on me. It's just about made me batty.

Just a little progress:

Quote:

Yuebtaoasotenseherhoexrnfutosmumpsvsthnt
aniapHwsrpelooauaisstieeo.
omda. Oveameieyntrsotshutee
orhlfmce,ec. Wsphyuainrx

The man in the robe is just like you Jack.

No I am a little bit stuck. Could continue with

You are no...
Your ...
You made no ...
Your home...

EDIT:
Just a short explaination of the method:
1) Take away the first letter of any of the 4 rows, e.g. "Y" from first line
2) Delete this letter, so that "u" will become the first letter in first line

Quote:

uebtaoasotenseherhoexrnfutosmumpsvsthnt
aniapHwsrpelooauaisstieeo.
omda. Oveameieyntrsotshutee
orhlfmce,ec. Wsphyuainrx

Y

3) Now select any other letter that fits (e.g. "o" from third or fourth line) and delete.

aniapHwsrpelooauaisstieeo.
mda. Oveameieyntrsotshutee
orhlfmce,ec. Wsphyuainrx

Yo

4) and so on (e.g. "u" from first line)

ebtaoasotenseherhoexrnfutosmumpsvsthnt
aniapHwsrpelooauaisstieeo.
mda. Oveameieyntrsotshutee

You

The man in the robe is just like you Jack. You are both...

also not that the period and H and all following letters in those two likely form the last sentence. and the comma as a last character may imply only one or two words after it.

This isn't fun doing on an iPhone w/o a monospace txt editor Razz

I looked at this for a long time and did not see the word "both".
In all my tries the letter "b" was really disturbing. Now I might make more progress.
