[META] DC Axon Hunter Signal Corps Meet Here!

Coordinate here. Post any news in the main threads.

First, we need confirmed locations for the phones we got last time from EVERYONE. Hopefully instead of random congregating we can organize how to hit those again. I don't know about you, but I can't keep taking off at random hours to hit these things. We need a plan. But first we need to know where these phones are.

Can someone volunteer to pull together the list from our information and put it somewhere we can all consult it? (OK, see below - my first attempt, based largely on hearsay)

I suggest that we NOT exert ourselves to hit any new axons unless they are VERY CONVENIENT TO GET TO AND EASY TO FIND. For example I have no desire to try every pay phone in Union Station (that's nuts), but I probably can do the new one at Connecticut and K.

BTW I feel under no pressure. If we can get a few during the week and then the rest in a mad dash on the weekend, that works for me. If Melissa doesn't get all her axons will that's just tough.

The two Dale City axons I could not find are on the list again. I will NOT be going back out there, but if anyone else wants to try, I will be happy to discuss what I have already tried.

Chappy, INCyr, Kaziel, Oliver, Cortana, Harsh - are you in? Who else?

edit - added my chart of the DC area locations, annotated for what was found (and where, if I know) and who found them (I think) - please send me corrections, I will annotate!

edit - I will update the chart daily; keep checking this post for it. I will substitute the new for the old.

Edit: Topic tag. -SpaceBass

I'm in, but I won't be able to do much until I get home tonight around 6:30; I don't have any of my notes at work. I've already got a preliminary list of who got which axons based on forum posts, and some web space. Given a little time I can put together a DC-only status web page for us to coordinate from.

ALSO - anyone who covers a DC coordinate - if you meet someone there that can commit to cover another one, get their nickname and a way to reach them so we can add them to the team and save someone else the trouble of getting to an axon that is covered. If you can get them to come to unfiction that would be great, but I care more about just getting this job done.

You/they can PM me here.

If they don't want to jump into UF, give them my EMAIL: aliendialSPLATyahoo.com

Moving this here from the general coordination thread...

OK, I just got back from a scouting expedition, and gere's the deal:

The phone is almost certainly at FAIR CITY MALL/SHOPPING CENTER; Mapquest, Acme, and RandMcNalley all show the coordinates a bit to the West of that, but that is a residential area and there are no payphones there. Across the street from the coordinates is Woodson High School. A block or two to the East is Fair City Mall; Geocode.com check of each location shows that Fair City Mall's coordinates are the closest to those of the Axon.

I found 8 payphones on the West-side of the shopping center (it's quite large), and of those only 3 are accepting incoming calls. They are:

1) Inside Jerry's Subs
2) Outside Wendy's
3) OUtside Safeway

I'll be there, and T-bone is going to try, but if there is anyone else in the area who can make it for the 16:55 EDT deadline, I would greatly appreciate the increase in odds! Smile Please PM me if you can make it and we can coordinate a meeting time/place.

aliendial: can you update the spreadsheet with this info?

I anticipate a big push later in the week/weekend, after which the beer is on me! (Oh, or sodas, for our younger team members!)

Well, I have the day off tomorrow, and figured I'd try to hit some of the ones along the Mall. Leaving for vacation in another state for two weeks the day after, so this is try or die for me Smile I'm going to take my digital camera along with me, so if I actually find one I'll take pics of it and the area around it so it's easier to find next time.

Here's to hoping it's not too hot out, I'm gonna be at it a while Smile

aethenoth, I have sent PMs to both INCyr and Kaziel, who got a bunch of the ones around the Mall last time (esp. the ones over by the Department of Agriculture). My list (above) has general info about those locations, and I do not believe they were hard to find, but it would help if they could point you to the exact right place. I hope they respond tonight (I asked them to post here).

Note that several on the Mall are new - expect the location from Melissa to be a little hazy. The one at 6th & Constitution is around the corner from one last week that Chappy never found, and I'm afraid "right in front of the National Gallery" may not be much more helpful. Frankly I would focus on the ones you know you can get, esp. when they are close together in time.

And feel free to cut deals with whoever shows up to cover certain locations. Suggest they come to UF to take credit for their work, too. (This way we have more people to call if this major dump of new axons happens again.) But not required, as long as the axon is hot.

Washington DC Axon Reference

Washington DC beekeepers, please see this page for reference materials.

http://homepage.mac.com/jchapman/images/posts/ilb/ilb3/index.htm

Time (PST and EST) are listed along with GPS and city locations. Each location has a graphic created from street maps and satellite imagery; both the mapquest star and acme crosshair locations are present. If a phone was positively identified, I've marked that with a white phone icon. Notes from previous forum posts are included, please let any updates from previous or new visits and I'll incorporate the information. If someone has said they'll be visiting a particular axon, I'll added that information (in red text).

Wednesday and Thursday I plan on hitting these axons if they're not already hot:
10:15
10:23
13:59
After the weekend I can get the 10:31 axon if needed.

Are there any on the eastern shore of Maryland or Virginia yet? Or Delaware, I'm in eastern lower Maryland and can't really hit the big cities over on the western shore. I know the last round was Baltimore, Richmond, and DC, but I'm wondering if any came over here yet.

Unfortunately I got called in last minute to work for today, so won't be able to play this time around Sad Good luck everyone, and here's to hoping I get to play during the next round of axons Smile

chip, there are some down near Richmond/Newport News, but I don't think there's any eastern shore stuff. Check the main list yourself to be sure; sometimes the location is not clear to people who don't live there.

aethenoth, work must always come first, of course. Maybe you'll have some time later in the week? I suspect these sites will be available for a while.

Well, there are 12 phones inside the National Gallery of Art, I waited by the four closest to the marker for the 10:15 call, but there was no ring. There's a set outside that I'll try, but I won't get it until Tuesday.

I also discovered it's impossible to make it from the Gallery of Art to the National Building Museum on foot in 8 minutes (traffic sucks, even for pedestrians). I missed the 10:23 call there by about a minute and a half Sad. I spoke to the coat-check worker who had picked up the phone and explained what was going on; hopefully he will give the correct response when the phone rings tomorrrow. If not, I'll try for the phone myself later (Labor Day holiday will prevent me from axon hunting Friday-Monday).

If anyone is downtown and would like to try for these, feel free! I've updated the DC reference page with phone locations.[/url]

Prioritizing - although we get credit toward the 777 axon total for any phone answered, we may want to put a higher priority on the ones that are still needed to get a sound clip.

As of Wednesday afternoon 11 PDT:

6:07 - anything_illegal (new one on Mall side of Natural History Museum)
6:23 - anything_illegal (old one - 12th& D SW, on 12th up from the corner)

7:43 - to_do (new one - 14th &P, maybe NE corner)

10:11 - drt (old one - 12th & C SW, NE corner)
10:15 - drt (Not found on one attempt)(new one - 6th & Constitution)
10:21 - drt (old one - Smithsonian metro/Mall, upper level)
10:23 - drt (Chappy missed this morning)(old one - National Bldg Museum)
Note that this axon is particularly dependent on the DC area.

10:47 - freelance (old one/never found - Potomac Mills Mall)
10:49 - freelance (old one - Washington Harbor)
11:01 - freelance (old one - Independence near 12th St.)

(11:19 accessorize I got yesterday)

11:27 trigeminal (old one - Manassas)

13:55 - tack_hammer (old one, never found - EdifyYo looking for it)(Fairfax City)
13:59 - tack_hammer (Chappy trying for it)(old one - 31st & K in theater)

OKay, based on aliendial's post, I will skip the 10:31 call tomorrow at the Ballston metro, and re-try the 10:23 call in the building museum. If it's the only phone I'm trying for, I won't miss it Smile
