I'm that guy

Although I was there with my camera, I did not get the pod. My 11 year old son got the pod.

My son had been following this for weeks. He couldn't believe it would fall during our trip to Disney. Several times a day during our trip he would check for updates; he discussed where and when it could possibly land and decided to forgo Epcot to hang out near the Lego store once the landing site was confirmed. I was there only as moral support.

We were at the store before 9am, walked in when it openned. We stepped out to hit the restroom, checked the site and it had just been updated. We ran back and my son was lucky enough to be the first kid to find the contact.

We had met him earlier in the morning. He was the guy who looked like a scientist wearing Lego glasses. My son made a beeline for him and yelled that he was looking for Pod 2.

According to the Lego contact, the Pod goes to the first kid who asks the contact person for it.

We certainly didn't expect the time to be announced as "now!", but had considered it a possibility.

My son is on cloud 9, and everyone now knows better what to expect.

It is the first kid that gets the pod, which wasn't spelled out on the site.
Rob.

Ok, well at least it was a kid. I can deal with that. (not to mention I'm 17, I'd love to get one Very Happy ) I envisioned this as some 30-something-guy who ran around yelling "POD 2!!!!11!" until he got it just to put it on ebay.

In short, I am no longer bitter about this.

Re: I'm that guy

As I would like to congratulate the kid, I was disappointed in that I was actually the 'first person' to tell the contact person POD2 and also show him the website page with the site that said 'the pod has landed'. Perhaps the rules should be made more explicit about who is eligible.

But, I am glad to know that this item will be cherished by someone (a child) for a long time.

Tell him I said congrats from one LEGO fan to another! I loved LEGO's growing up, I still have boxes full of them I couldn't part with, it's awesome that they are still sparking so much imagination and passion! You guys should post some pics if you get a chance and show us the inside of the pod!

Also, sorry for the snarky edits to the pic, I was still a little sore at missing my chance and I hadn't seen you guys poke in before the unveiling which upset me because I thought I had lost it to someone who just showed up last minute and lucked out. My apologies to you and your son if I came across poorly.

*applauds*

I love seeing people on the internet who aren't heartless losers. It makes me feel like there's still hope for the world.

Pics to come

We will have the pod tomorrow and will fully document everything. Pictures of the box, which is supposed to be "awesome" in the words of the contact, as well as all around the pod, inside etc.

We had a lot of fun and when we get home from vacation I'll edit together our video we worked on this morning as we prepared to get the pod.

It was also cool that they handed out shirts to all the pod hunters.

There were a lot of confused people in the store. Imagine how crazy the whole pod thing must have looked!

Re: Pics to come

Shirts? People were just complaining about how they didn't hand anything out...

Anyway, on the page where you enter the ID, it has those pink bars, there keep getting more of them. The image is this: http://www.bradfordrant.org/images/image.php?stripes=48 The number is the number of stripes. It goes to 97 and then it is filled. The number keeps going up. I thought it might be counting the number of people who submitted the number, but it didn't go up when I entered it, although I had already done so earlier. I think it is just timed.

Also with the pod, do you have to come back later to pick it up? What if you left?

Edit:
And who was the pod contact person? The guy with the glasses was definitely different from the guy that *was* circled. In fact they are both in this picture http://www.facebook.com/johndeutschendorf?ref=mf#/photo.php?pid=10077573&id=732665532&fbid=341899110532

They had a stack of shirts, so I assume they gave them out. There was a card they gave that was then redeemed for a shirt. I'll get pictures of the shirt and card and post with the pod pics.

We left and will pick up the pod tomorrow. They would have shipped it if we couldn't come back.

Both guys have glasses, but the contact's (Heinrik) are on the top of his head. The guy in the image with the glasses visible is Tim, who works at the store.

Aw man, I totally missed that. D'oh! Oh well! Glad to see you back, you and your son should help us solve the mystery of the pods. Now that Pod 2 has been retrieved we should be getting some new data to crack today. Pods are great but the code-cracking is where the action is really at!

Yes, they could only be retrieved by having a card.

Robbie, if you like, I'll pick up a shirt for you if they still have one. I have to stop by the store today for something else and will let them know you didn't get one. Only if you want me to.

Wow, if you could that would be amazing! I don't know how I missed the cards being passed out, but to be honest I was a little flustered at that point and left pretty promptly so my own immaturity bit me in the butt. Thank you so much for the offer!

Pod 2 data is up!

The letters hidden in the gnarled forest image are LRTH (see here if you don't feel like hunting for them yourself).

Sweet! I just sent B.R.I.C.K. a tweet asking about the data! Pod 3 is coming down in 12 days too!

So far, letter-wise, we have the following letters from each pod's data:

Pod 1: NSWE
Pod 2: LRTH

My guess is once all the pods are down we will have enough to solve the code. I wonder how the pink bars play into the code, if at all. Perhaps they are just meant to be a visual status bar as to how many times the ID has been submitted?

There were also some pictures of the pod up for a minute, but it looks like they're still tweaking the page because they disappeared upon subsequent refreshing. However, they're still there in the source code:

EDIT: Okay the photos are back up again, no need to post them here. They're different pictures than earlier... but that's fine, I like these ones better anyway. Smile

I have a picture of the pod in the case on FaceBook. Not a great photo, but the link is in the Bradford Rant fan area.
