It's possible we could use something similar on Eva's diary, but the "letters" don't seem consistent enough.

so, last month I decided to ask the Jejune Institute directly about their side of the EPWA.

I forgot to check my secondary account for a while, so I decided to see if I got a response. What I got was a legal letter from Spearmint & McHorowitz, the JI's legal firm.

More or less it states that "The Jejune Institute does not legally posses the right to form an opinion for you, so your loyalties and beleifs are yours to develop"

The rest of the letter is full of legal mumbo-jumbo.

I'll attach the PDF so you can read it for yourself.

Got a kick out of it, and gave me insight to what the producers are shooting for.

Also, Organelle gave me one of those tokens a while back (during the Patent registration). I just found my recently, anyone know if this side-quest is still happening?

META:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the source of the language written at the end of Eva's Journal is from The Codex Seraphinianus. The Coxed is currently indecipherable. Even in the off chance it someday IS deciphered it wouldn't matter in this case because the writing is actually copied and pasted from various different parts of the book AND it's all upside down (so any translation of the text would result in random snippets from the book in no real order). The point of the writing isn't to figure out what it says but to simply understand that she made a transition of sorts. what that transition is is something we have to find out (though maybe we never will).

no idea. me and lie.from.sf tried to figure out the last clue but to no avail. the instructions weren't terribly clear on what we were supposed to do with the items we were given.[/quote]

Unfortunately, that is the PDF they sent me. Yeah, it's not very clear at all. I'll see if I can re-type it later on today.

Legal Letter

Capt:

I too received the VERY same letter from my similiar query. I think they made it blurry and "unclear" on purpose.

Essentially, they are saying we are barking up the wrong tree if we think the JI or OC will help us out.

Freshinate.

Let's "get fresh" with psycho-optics!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It is hidden until you roll over it. Har.

You could probably jam that into an OCR thing. Probably. Or you could just squint and go.

Non.

"invoke Nonsense /// There's absolutely no reason why allies and operatives should be sleeping through The Age of Incongruity."

Nonsense. Got it.

New EPWA video!

Field Communications in San Francisco:
"Ms. Audrey Greigh herself and Company"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIZicqXqCoo

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you know, kelvin makes a really good point. i don't think we ever did try to inform Kelvin of the EPWA or the JI. we just kinda reaped the benefits of his contact with Beth.

Hmm... it seems we have been too "on the sidelines" during this last Act.

I could have SWORN I posted something on his blog talking about the EPWA... maybe I didn't not sure.

In any case, this brings up an interesting META question: what if we DID warn Kelvin about the EPWA, would have anything changed? Would he have joined voluntarily? Interesting idea.

Also, it seems there is some major construction happening over at the EPWA headquarters. Not sure what this means for the future... but for those of you at the SoEx exhibit panel there was a rumor stating that the additional items asked for during the Remembering Eva broadcast could be for a "permanent building" dedicated to all things Nonchalant. Not sure what that means, but we'll find out soon.

Also, anyone been able to determine what some of the items shown in the video are? I know for a fact there is one book there called "The Third Mind": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Third_Mind

Lastly, I think this means during the final act we should be a bit more "involved" with the correspondences with the in-game characters. If the opportunity presents itself of course.

i think it's funny that Kelvin has adapted so well to being an EPWA captive that even he looks at Audry weirdly when she starts talking about the EPWA as an art piece and almost gushing over Drybones. Well at least now we know Kelvin is fully caught up (reading the Omni articles even) so we should be seeing some interesting stuff from this now.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
also that place they're in looks a lot like the room from thelostmixtape website. does this mean Kelvin will have access to the lost relic he'd been seeking? will he know what to do with it? Maybe give it to Beth? hmm...

(Jason 7au, are you upset?) "Don't be upset.
It was a /mercy/ [kidnapping]." (Mercy, mercy, mercy.) "He had a sort of naive charm. But no..."

Nonchalance?

I'm inclined to say no to that idea. I've been trying to correspond for over a year with lots of these folks. They're either worse than me about responding to email, or they don't check it at all. (Also, postcards.)

I did get a response back from Kelvin, after I shot him a note basically saying "Whoa, Prelinger, hella sweet, but wait, you didn't do Beth's map? :O" where he was all, "Yeah, I've been busy with stuffs, I need to do it, and I'm glad you dug the Prelinger!" and then on October 15th, before the memorial, I emailed him back with the following:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hey there again, Kelvin!

I'm catching up with everything. Time's been moving at unfortunate speeds lately. Eh. It happens. Though I wish I had been able to write you sooner.

I've read your latest post about being dispirited. I understand. Some people just like to consume. And some people are shy, and some people may not know how to say thank you. And also I think part of what you're up against is that "mail.org" seems like such a generic domain name; I, myself had a hard time believing it was a real email address! And I think I saw it printed as mail.com somewhere, if I can trust my memory, so that's not helping things either. That's why I didn't email you until I saw an address at rememberingeva.com I could use. I figured you were trying to protect yourself or something.

Speaking of which... you wrote: "And then… I set out the other day, with the intention of doing the "Beth Form" finally. But I was not alone. These tourists were at the tower…and they kept being wherever I was. They were constantly taking pictures of whatever was "behind" me. I think they were taking pictures of ME. I don't know how I know this…I just have a feeling. I couldn't stay out there. Had to come back home."

I really can't cushion what I'm about to say, and I wasn't there, but... I don't know who you ran into, but trust your feelings on this one. Be a bit worried. But don't freak out. It's... well, I only half-know what it is. It's not good, for sure. But on the other hand, I think some pronoia might do you good, so know this: there are likely as many others who would look out for you as there are who might not have your best interests at heart. So don't lose heart over this.

Hell, other than "hey, cheer up!" I'm not saying anything useful, am I? I bet this is what talking to Beth has been like, haha.

Maybe what I'm trying to say is that we're all trying to figure out if we can trust you. I think we can, but we're in dangerous times, it seems.

Hey, have you ever seen those "Soon Obsolete" orange signs on fences? I know there was one near Coit Tower, maybe you saw it. You should call the number. Fuck it, I'll give it to you: 1-888-717-7517. There's gotta be something in that phone tree that covers this.

Also: Look out for those of the Jejune Institute. Those guys are not to be trusted.

Also: If you want another stab at checking out Beth's map, but feel the need for protection, let me know, I can get some people. We got ya. On my honor. Because you must finish it.

Also: Carry a bell on you, (I suggest Cliff's Variety on the Castro if you don't have one), and think of it as your metaphysical can of mace. Or a spiritual taser. Or... you know, a bell.

Also: If you work for THEM, I don't think I'm telling you anything your cohorts don't already know. HA HA! SUCKA FREE! TELL OCTAVIO HE WON'T GET ME IN ANY SENSORY DEPRIVATION AD HOC WATERBOARDER JOBBER. Fucking joke. I bet the dolphins know better anyway and don't say anything noteworthy to him anyway. I bet they KNOW.

Um. But, hey, if you're on your own and not with THEM, then... I hope you can figure out where we'll meet next.

Because if you were really with THEM, then you wouldn't be sharing your amazing luck and all your hard work with us, right? ...Right? Regardless, sorry I have to be so dodgy, and thank you for everything and I mean everything... on behalf of myself and many others, some of whom you may have heard from, some you may never. But we are, to the last, appreciative.

_J7

I warned that guy. But "They never contacted me," he says. Well fine. Besides, now you're telling me a librarian doesn't know how to google info. That's a good one.

It could also be that when he says "they were in contact with the EPWA, they could have told me" he's talking about Beth and Cornelius. Would the Savants be at fault? Or were they following orders, or just doing what they thought they should do?

Oh, the guy from the beginning of the video? With the art test? That's Svengoolie, a schlock/horror movie host from Saturday mornings, who's travelled around Chicago's UHF channels since I was a kid. I wonder if he's still at it? The guy playing Svengoolie later started acting as a host of sorts for cartoons on channel 26 using his real name... what was it... Rich Koz, I think.
