Wasn't that my point? That we have lost a lot of folks who were picking up axons before?

Like I said, yes and no. I think we still have the people, I just don't think we have them in place. Give it a day or two.

BTW: St. Louis is 3 for 4. Neener neener neener! Very Happy

If anyone is planning on hitting axons in Seattle this weekend, be aware that Bumbershoot is going on, so the phones in the Queen Anne and Magnolia area may be hard to get to.

I didn't look too closely at the phones in that area, but if there's phones in Seattle Center, they'll be completely inaccessible for anyone who isn't going to Bumbershoot.

If you're going to the Redmond axon, last time this phone was at the Bella Botega theatre, not in QFC or the Bartell Drugs store.

Axon report: 10:53 PDT ("freelance")
Location: Hinsdale, IL (west-southwest Chicago suburbs)

The coordinate itself pointed to inside a candy store (filled, about 30 mins prior to go-time - which was when I arrived) with screaming Catholic schoolchildren in uniform. yay.)

Across the street and within a direct line of site of the candy store were two payphones located at the Hinsdale, IL Metra train station. (Metra is Chicago's light commuter railway system).

The phones were labelled "this phone does not accept incoming calls" or something of that sort. I called them on my mobile and verified that they didn't take incoming calls:

(630) 654 9719
(630) 654 9308

Shortly after I arrived, two other gentlemen showed up - hi, guys, sorry I didn't catch your names! We scouted around for a bit and found another phone (further from the coordinate) on the other side of the railroad tracks.

The phone there accepted incoming calls and rang when dialed:

(630) 654-9037

We camped there, Dorkmaster arrived, and 10:53 PDT came and went without the phone ringing. Only shortly after 10:53 PDT did we notice that there was *another* payphone, across another street and even further away from the axon (now about 2 blocks) at a Mobil station. It was also labelled "this phone does not accept incoming calls" and didn't have a phone number on it, but I used it to call Dorkmaster's phone, he got the number off of caller ID, dialed it back and it rang. The ring was so quiet, however, that it took me a minute to realize that it was ringing (and I was right next to it). Also, when I picked up the call to the payphone from Dorkmaster's mobile, all I got was an annoying buzzing sound - so it's unlikely that we would have been able to do anything even if that had been the phone.

Since that phone called/was called by Dorkmaster's phone, he'll have to provide the number.

All in all, pretty disappointing/frustrating.

I'll hit the midtown Atlanta one tomorrow morning (same as before - listed on the chart as druid hills). The mall of GA one (sugarhill) is trickier, but if nobody claims it soon I'll see what I can do.

Hinsdale, IL 10:53(PDT) - NOT HOT

10:53 PDT axon in Hinsdale, IL not hot! Crying or Very sad

There were four of us there, and I'm not sure if I can mention screennames (two were lurkers anyway, so screen names wouldn't matter much. Hi there, guys!)

But there were two points we think could have been it, although there were actually four phones... And if two were it, they weren't going hot...

I'll include a map (see below) with spots highlighted so all y'all nearby can help out next time!

So, we waited and 12:53 (central time) came and passed... our phone was not it. (and the phone was tested for ring and incoming call capability prior to my arrival, so it wasn't just quiet...)

There was another phone across the street (about 100-150 feet from the actual "point") at a Mobil station, but it says it doesn't take incoming calls. But, as adamant ARGers, we put change in the phone (and after it ate the first $.50) called our cell phones and called the number that caller ID mentioned. But we got a high-pitched sound much like SpaceBass reported... (!@%$@# payphones) So even if it was that phone that rang (VERY quietly I might add) there's NO WAY voice recognition could work there...

Also, there were two phones in the train station. We didn't have enough people to check those. They didn't take incoming calls, but we didn't have enough change to test em. We'll cover em tomorrow. (I know, there were 4 phones, 4 people, but we wanted to have everyone at the "for sure" location... sorry all... we'll try again tomorrow.)

Not to mention, there were a BAZILLION shops lining the south side of the tracks... (I'll put em in the map) (oh, and for the skeptics, I counted: exactly one bazillion shops. Laughing )

So we'll try again tomorrow. One of the people was going to check out the Bensenville spot (11:31PDT, so if it's hot, he did it... or PJV2...I don't know...) Good luck everyone else, and I'll update tomorrow!

D'Oh! Beat to the punch by Extrasonic! Oh well. So this is overlapping info and such... However, here's the phone number for the screetchy Mobil payphone (630) 887-0467... But I do have a crappy mappy!

Following example set by "hello", when given choice of phones down in metro station (which is right on the corner where x marks the spot) or outdoors alittle up the block, I choose the one up the block. It's also across the street from where the geocaching site would put it.

Creepy but true - there's an old coot working the phones for change in the neighborhood. (I say coot - he's well groomed, wears a suit jacket and just checks the phones for change.) He came by yesterday before I finished "hello" lower down on 17th St. Today he comes by JUST AS THE PHONE RINGS! Thank heavens pushing the lever for money back doesn't hang up the call, because of the 2 phones of course that was THE phone.

just got back from the 11:33 axon (chicago, wrigley field, CTA red line stop). there were 3 payphones downstairs and two on the platform. i tested both phones on the platform and they accepted incoming calls. since i was alone i decided to take the one on the south end of the platform as it matched the coordinates. the phone never rang and i had to leave empty-handed.

There are mapquest and GPS satalite links at http://www.lou2.net/temp/hivekuts-coords.html . Let me know if I can do anything to help.

didn't get to go for the axon today. Was called into a meeting. Looks like my tps reports weren't being submitted correctly.

I'm off work tommorrow so won't be near bensenville, may meet you at the hinsdale spot.
